Why we care: Even though the DC Universe had a mega-hit with Wonder Woman, and Aquaman looks promising, the company keeps consistently getting its ass handed to them by Marvel. Instead of carefully, patiently planning out its cinematic universe and cultivating visionary directors like Taika Waititi and Ryan Coogler, DC’s approach has mostly just been “let Zack Snyder do whatever, who cares?” Adding to DC’s woes is that the most interesting take on its signature superhero in ages is coming out next year, and it’s not even a DC movie. The list includes "Justice League Dark," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Pacific Rim 2." Del Toro said he lost more than a decade of work on the projects. "Justice League" fans could start asking for the "Guillermo del Toro cut" soon. The Oscar-winning director of "The Shape of Water" shared a list of movies on Twitter Monday that he had written, co-written, or developed that had yet to be produced. The “Joker” origin movie has been filming in New York City. On Saturday, September 22, Joaquin Phoenix was seen filming in a Manhattan subway in Joker makeup. On the following Monday and Tuesday, he was seen filming again in Brooklyn with a different clown look. Photos from the set suggest Batman will not appear in the movie. The Joker’s look gives off vibes of Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero’s versions of the character. Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz have been filming DC’s Joker origin movie in New York City this September and October. The first set photos of Phoenix on the streets of Harlem and a New York City subway show the 43-year-old actor in and out of clown makeup wandering around carnival area Amusement Mile.
