Investigating officers from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station arrived at the Nakhon Pathom Hospital at 4pm on Wednesday, March 29 and identified the deceased as 29 year old Kiattichai Wichaita. He was an officer at the Livestock Office District 7 in the province. He reportedly jumped from the 10th floor of the hospital building. A colleague of Kiattichai told police that he appeared to be very stressed when he came to the office that morning but did not disclose any personal issues to anyone. He then left the office without telling anyone where he was going. Veteran-heavy Mets ready to roll with the punches after Justin Verlander injury news

March 31, 2023 by www.denverpost.com

MIAMI — It’s not exactly uncharacteristic of the Mets to drop big news during big moments of the season. Yet when the club announced that Justin Verlander would start the year on the injured list with a shoulder (teres major) strain just hours before Thursday’s season opener, it was a shock to everyone — even his teammates. “It caught all of us off guard,” right-hander Max Scherzer said Thursday night at LoanDepot Park. “I didn’t realize he was dealing with something.” Verlander himself didn’t even realize he was dealing with something until he threw his bullpen Wednesday night. The thought occurred to him that something might be wrong after his last Grapefruit League start, but he attributed some minor soreness to some mechanical adjustments. Losing a key pitcher like that could have had a ripple effect on the clubhouse, especially since the team is without All-Star closer Edwin Diaz for the season and left-hander Jose Quintana until at least July . But the Mets didn’t … [Read more...] about Veteran-heavy Mets ready to roll with the punches after Justin Verlander injury news

Dansby Swanson stars in his Chicago Cubs debut, a 4-0 opening-day win: ‘I’m really soaking up these moments’

March 31, 2023 by www.denverpost.com

Dansby Swanson needed only one game to understand how “Go, Cubs, Go” hits differently when the tune resonates at Wrigley Field while wearing the home pinstripes. Swanson’s Chicago Cubs debut Thursday encompassed exactly what the organization expected in the all-around shortstop when they signed him to a seven-year, $177 million contract in the offseason. He became the first Cub to have three hits in his team debut since, fittingly, Nico Hoerner on Sept. 9, 2019. The duo teamed up to turn an inning-ending double play in the top of the third inning to help right-hander Marcus Stroman escape the bases-loaded jam. Swanson also drove in a run, the Cubs’ first of the season, to spark a four-run third en route to a 4-0 opening-day win against the Milwaukee Brewers. A day that began with an early wake up and prayer ended with Swanson putting a rough offensive spring performance behind him to lead the Cubs to a complete win in front of contingent of supporters that included his parents and … [Read more...] about Dansby Swanson stars in his Chicago Cubs debut, a 4-0 opening-day win: ‘I’m really soaking up these moments’

How Older Veterans Can Protect Themselves From Scam Artists

March 30, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Rachel Leland, Next Avenue As aging World War II veteran Johnnie Ray Toland started showing signs of Alzheimer's, his family began searching for an assisted living home to care for him. Staff members at one home introduced the family to Tammi Palasini. Palasini, who would later be sentenced to 20 years behind bars for various crimes, including fraud, convinced the Toland family to give her control of $340,000 of their funds. Aid and Assistance Scam In what is known as an "aid and assistance scam," Palasini falsely promised the Toland family that she would help diversify their father's assets to get beneath the threshold to qualify for VA benefits and earn a return on their investment. It wasn't until after Toland's death three years later that the family learned Palasini was a scam artist who had victimized them and their father. On the same day as Toland's funeral, a postal inspector contacted … [Read more...] about How Older Veterans Can Protect Themselves From Scam Artists

Beware Of Fake “Treatments” Or “Cures” For Dementia

March 31, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Federal Trade Commission often issues warnings for consumers about scams of all kinds. They are raising the alarm about phony treatments and cures for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, sending letters to the companies that advertise these fake products. We can understand why people who desperately want a cure for a disease that is currently not curable will look to the internet for promises. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias create a long, sad, expensive journey for elders and their families. We address these every day at AgingParents.com, working with these families. No one wants to hear from doctors that there is no treatment to fix the disease and that no drug company has a cure. Denial leads folks to find a way to cope with the sad truth. Desperation for relief is an invitation to manufacturers who create false hope for those affected. Few retirement plans prepare surviving women for what is effectively her second retirement – a later life stage with new complexities, different needs, and costs just just when financial resources and personal resilience may be sharply declining. One Month With Lomi—Turn Food Waste Into Something Useful

March 31, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you live in the United States and are of a certain age, you're probably feeling pretty good about yourself when you separate out your recyclables. But, as much as it was drilled into us as kids that recycled plastic, glass, and cardboard would save the planet, it's pretty apparent that we need to do more. Based on this 2010 study from the USDA Americans generate, on average, 219 pounds of food waste per person, per year. That number hasn't improved in the 13 years since, with some reports tipping the scales at 242 pounds. That's over 200 lbs. of uneaten, expired, and leftover food per person that ends up in landfills, generating methane. Not to mention all the trash bags that you end up tossing. How many times a month do you end up tossing a half-full trash bag out because food scraps generate a toxic cloud that escapes from the can whenever you open the lid? Composting is one of the easiest options to do … [Read more...] about One Month With Lomi—Turn Food Waste Into Something Useful
