How Apple’s Famous “I’m A Mac” Ads Branded Fanboys For Life

· February 26, 2014 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement Few ad campaigns in recent times have been as memorable as the “Hello, I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC” series from a few years back. The ads showed Justin Long as the hip embodiment of Mac users and John Hodgman as the stiff personification of PC folk. Never mind that Hodgman is unquestionably cooler than Long; the point of the ads presented viewers with a question put best by Seth Stevenson at Slate : “Would you rather be the laid-back young dude or the portly old dweeb”? advertisement advertisement At its core, the campaign suggested that people who buy Macs have fundamentally different personalities than those who prefer PCs. advertisement advertisement advertisement I’m scared to death about the state of the American economy. advertisement advertisement For the first time since the measurement of U.S. business birth and death rates began, business closures are outpacing new business startups. Up until 2008, business startups outpaced business failures by about 100,000 per year. But, in the past six years, that number has reversed; we now have 70,000 more businesses dying than being born. Scary indeed, but I’m convinced we can reverse this course. We have enough entrepreneurial energy among America’s youth to build an economy that will boom louder than any of our best runs in the past. Among U.S. students surveyed in 2012 in grades five to 12, 43% say they plan to start their own business. The problem is that there are very few people helping these students’ entrepreneurial aspirations come true. A mere 7% say they are gaining real-world … [Read more...] about How Teachers And Mentors Will Save Entrepreneurship In America

Lockdowns resulting from a global pandemic kept many Americans physically isolated from each other, while a bitter presidential race and social justice movements like Black Lives Matter kept many mentally and politically divided. advertisement And it’s the combination of those two things—the physical isolation from COVID-19 and America’s historic political division—that fueled the rankings of SimilarWeb’s The Digital 100 list this year. The list by the web traffic intelligence company ranks the top 10 fastest-growing brands across 10 categories, including apparel, electronics, and fintech. But from a media perspective, the rankings of the top left-leaning and right-leaning news brands are the most revealing. American’s divisions over the COVID-19 response and Trump was good for media … [Read more...] about OAN and ‘The Intercept’ have this one thing in common
