My son will follow his ‘Raj Dharma’, I will follow my ‘Rashtra Dharma’: Yashwant Sinha on BJP MP Jayant Sinha

June 26, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Yashwant Sinha The July 18 presidential election is much more than a personal contest and is a step towards resisting the authoritarian streak of the government, the Opposition’s candidate Yashwant Sinha said on Sunday. In an interview to PTI, Sinha said he was not in any ’dharma sankat’ over not getting the support of his son, Jayant Sinha, a BJP MP. ”…he follows his ’Raj Dharma’, I will follow my ’Rashtra Dharma’,” he said. ”This election is more than merely the election of the president of India. This election is a step towards resisting the authoritarian policies of the government. This election is a message to the people of India that there should be resistance to these policies,” he told PTI. On the BJP-led NDA nominating Droupadi Murmu, a tribal leader, for the presidential election, the former Union minister said elevating an individual does not ensure the elevation of the whole community and the BJP’s projection of Murmu was nothing more than political … [Read more...] about My son will follow his ‘Raj Dharma’, I will follow my ‘Rashtra Dharma’: Yashwant Sinha on BJP MP Jayant Sinha

Opposition looking for ‘mehngai’, but it is not there: BJP leader Jayant Sinha

August 1, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Jayant Sinha BJP leader and former minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha on Monday asserted that there is no 'mehngai' (inflation) and the Opposition has been looking for it but is unable to find it. Participating in the debate on price rise in Lok Sabha, Sinha contended that the government has ensured that the "thali" (plate) of the poor is full of eatables and the people are shielded from the impact of inflation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis. Hitting out at opposition parties for doling out freebies, he said, "There are a lot of the 'revadi' people. In Rajasthan also choorma is being made and ghee is being added to it. We have to be careful of those making choorma, sandesh, jalebi, and those reveriwalas who are destroying the country." In a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, he said, "Delhi people have got a halwaai who keeps making jalebi and he has taken that to Punjab and now since elections are coming, that … [Read more...] about Opposition looking for ‘mehngai’, but it is not there: BJP leader Jayant Sinha

Are workplaces truly welcoming of trans and gender nonconforming candidates/employees?

August 7, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Encouraging all employees to give their pronouns in their email signature is a good idea. (Image via Unsplash) Diversity, equality, and inclusion (DE&I) - some organizations have made dedicated efforts towards these goals in recent years. Human Solidarity Foundation Director Aqsa Shaikh says: “Decriminalisation of homosexuality has provided a sort of safety net to the employers, motivating them to hire LGBTQIA+ people.” “More and more companies are recruiting queer people and showing that off with pride, especially in June (Pride Month). Even if it’s symbolic, that’s happening,” Shaikh adds. Gaysi Family Editor Tejaswi Subramanian says that more companies “are extending insurance benefits to live-in partners, providing menstruation leaves and parental time-off.” According to Subramanian, initiatives like running an advocacy group driven by allies in companies like Johnson & Johnson is “nice” as it takes the onus off the backs of queer people. To be sure, these … [Read more...] about Are workplaces truly welcoming of trans and gender nonconforming candidates/employees?

Bibek Debroy writes: India’s economy is better placed than its peers, other economies around the world

August 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Impostor syndrome seems to be more common than actually thought, though at a collective level. People may often feel that the groups they are affiliated with may be underperforming in comparison to other groups. Although this self-critical approach may work in certain cases, it may also overlook the positives, and decrease the morale of those affiliated with the group. Many in India seem to have a collective/national-level impostor syndrome. While the Indian economy is much better placed than its peers in the emerging markets, and other economies, the government is being criticised on the economic front. The criticism comes when the fundamentals of the Indian economy are robust, despite the exogenous shocks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, monetary policy tightening by the US Federal Reserve, the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and inflated crude oil prices. India's macroeconomic health remains robust despite external pressures, and ongoing … [Read more...] about Bibek Debroy writes: India’s economy is better placed than its peers, other economies around the world

RBI moves towards a positive real rate of interest

August 6, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. (File photo) The August 5 monetary policy of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) comes at a very dynamic juncture. The CPI inflation is still above the RBI’s comfort zone (at 7 percent); but it appears to have peaked, and is expected to fall below 6 percent by the end of the fiscal year. Global commodity prices have fallen sharply in the recent past, but are still high. Bloomberg Commodity Price index has gone down by 12 percent in the last two months; but the index is still 18 percent higher than the beginning of the year. Globally, while inflation continues to rage, there are heightened concerns around economic slowdown. With the US economy slipping into technical recession, there are expectations in the markets that the US Federal Reserve may go slow with its rate hiking cycle. In the given volatile macro backdrop, the RBI has chosen to continue with front-loading, and hiked the repo rate by 50 bps — in line with expectations. The RBI has … [Read more...] about RBI moves towards a positive real rate of interest
