MAHB, Capital A cease legal proceedings - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and Capital A Bhd have both decided to drop legal proceedings against each other that they initiated via their subsidiaries Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB) and AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd (AirAsia Group). The two groups have locked horns since the end of 2018, when AirAsia Group's Malaysian operations refused to collect the higher passenger service charges (formerly known as airport tax) from passengers that MAHB and MASSB demanded, after the rate was raised to RM73 per pssenger in 2018 from RM50. This escalated into a series of lawsuits between the groups, starting with three civil suits MAHB filed against AirAsia Group's units — AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd — to claim for the unpaid PSC and late payment charges related to them. They obtained a summary judgement from the High Court in 2019, which the Court of Appeal upheld earlier this year. China military ‘completes tasks’ around Taiwan, plans regular patrols
- A + A BEIJING/TAIPEI (Aug 10): China's military has "completed various tasks" around Taiwan but will conduct regular patrols, it said on Wednesday, potentially signalling an end to days of war games but also that Beijing will keep up its pressure on the island. Furious at a visit to Taipei last week by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, China extended its largest-ever exercises around the self-ruled island it claims as its own beyond the four days originally scheduled. Last week's drills included launches of ballistic missiles, some of which flew over the island's capital of Taipei, and simulated sea and air attacks in surrounding skies and waters. In a brief statement, the Eastern Theatre Command of the People's Liberation Army said its joint military operations around Taiwan "successfully completed various tasks and effectively tested the integrated combat capabilities of the troops". It added: "Theatre forces will keep an eye on the changes in the situation in … [Read more...] about China military ‘completes tasks’ around Taiwan, plans regular patrols

Elon Musk sells $7B in Tesla shares ahead of Twitter fight
Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Elon Musk has sold nearly $7 billion worth of shares in Tesla as the billionaire gets his finances in order ahead of his court battle with Twitter. Musk disclosed in series of regulatory filings that he unloaded about 8 million shares of his company Tesla Inc. in recent days. Musk is by far the largest individual shareholder in both Tesla and Twitter. Shares of Tesla rose almost 2% before the opening bell Wednesday. Shares of Twitter Inc., up 16% in the past month with most believing Musk faces long-shot odds of success in court, jumped another 3%. Lingering Inflation and Tangled Supply Chains Mean You Need to Rethink Your Inventory Strategy
Keeping shelves stocked has been anything but a straightforward task for retail businesses over the past two years. Ongoing supply chain snags and changing customer preference due to the pandemic have forced many businesses to completely rethink the way they stock their shelves to accommodate supply shortages, shifting demand, and ongoing inflation --here are the strategies that seem to be working. Think short term When the pandemic started, Austin-based cleaning products company Branch Basics saw demand skyrocket overnight. Quickly, CEO Tim Murphy made the decision to hire an experienced demand planner, who still works for the company. "Once a month, we do supply and demand chain analysis, and make our best estimates of what we need to order, given that lead times have gone berserk," he says. With a supply chain expert on board, Murphy says that the company has been able to better predict potential issues, which could stem from small details; if trigger sprayers … [Read more...] about Lingering Inflation and Tangled Supply Chains Mean You Need to Rethink Your Inventory Strategy

Crypto markets have hit the floor, says JP Morgan
Even as Bitcoin fell as much as 75 percent from its all-time high in November last year, crypto prices, notably those of Bitcoin and Ethereum have rebounded considerably in July (Image: Shutterstock) Anticipation over the Merge, a much-awaited upgrade to the Ethereum (ETH) network, is the main driver behind a rally in cryptocurrencies over the last few weeks, financial services firm JP Morgan said, and claimed the market had hit the floor despite subdued trading volumes.
