Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma At a time when companies across the world are ordering employees to return to office, Paytm’s Vijay Shekhar Sharma is expounding the benefits of working from home. On Thursday, the Paytm chief announced that his digital payments platform will allow employees in tech, business and product roles to work from home or any location of their choice. The war in Ukraine hasn’t ended. Here’s how these founders continue to build their businesses
In those first few fraught hours of February 24th, after Russian forces invaded Ukraine, Anastasiia Smyk, CEO and co-founder of aviation software startup Input Soft , recalls being in a state of shock and incredulity. She was in Kyiv at the time, but her 11-strong team was scattered around the country. advertisement advertisement “The first week we were just thinking about how to survive at a human level,” says the 25-year-old entrepreneur. “So we decided to rent a house for our team in the Carpathian mountains, in the [safer] western part of Ukraine, and told them they could go there with their families to wait until we knew more about what was happening. The Office Monsters Are Trying to Claw Their Way Back to 2019
Representative image Some corporate leaders are grasping at whatever they can to get back to the way things were. But they might find themselves fighting a culture shift beyond their control. As long as work has existed, employers have tried to size up their employees’ commitment to their jobs. Are you on the fast track? The mommy track? The leadership track? Now, if some corporate leaders have their way, there will be a new test for workplace devotion — and anyone who opts for remote work gets a failing grade. But can C.E.O.s really claw their way back to 2019? This past week, Elon Musk issued an ultimatum to Tesla and SpaceX employees requiring them to return to the office for at least 40 hours per week — or lose their jobs. Mr. Musk, who is known for having camped out for weeks at Tesla factories, thinks remote work is an affront to productivity and personal commitment. Last month, he praised Chinese workers for “burning the 3 a.m. oil,” comparing them with … [Read more...] about The Office Monsters Are Trying to Claw Their Way Back to 2019
Simple glucose-meter test can be used to monitor COVID-19 antibody levels
Representational image (Source: Reuters) Researchers have developed a simple, glucose-meter test that can help people monitor their own antibody levels against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, that causes COVID-19. The team from Johns Hopkins University in the US noted that over-the-counter COVID-19 tests can quickly show whether a person is infected with SARS-CoV-2. However, if a person has a positive result, there is no at-home test to assess how long they will remain protected against reinfection. In the Journal of the American Chemical Society, researchers described a simple, accurate glucose-meter-based test incorporating a novel fusion protein. They said that consumers could someday use this assay to monitor their own SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels. Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 and infection with the virus itself can guard against future infections for a while, but it's unclear exactly how long that protection lasts, the researchers said. A good indication of immune protection is a … [Read more...] about Simple glucose-meter test can be used to monitor COVID-19 antibody levels
