The New Orleans Saints are the overwhelming favorite to win Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. According to a good amount of predictions, they’ll do so at the hands of the Patriots. It’s to be expected after a topsy-turvy season that New England might not get overwhelming respect as favorites heading into the NFL’s playoff calendar. With the No. 2 seed, the Patriots potentially have to travel to Kansas City for the AFC Championship game, a difficult task for a team that was 3-5 on the road during the regular season. But even at Gillette Stadium, where the team was 8-0, there’s some level of disbelief in Tom Brady and Bill Belichick starting another march. One writer has them losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC title game in Foxborough. Another has them losing to the Indianapolis Colts — the Colts — in the divisional round. Frank Reich’s Revenge or something. All seems set for a Super Bowl showdown between the Chiefs and Saints, … [Read more...] about What experts are predicting for the NFL playoffs
The NFL trade deadline is now less than two weeks away, which is much closer than it even sounds, and the rumor mill seems to be working overtime compared to recent seasons — as typically it's the MLB and NBA deadlines that offer the most excitement. On Monday, our own Jimmy Kempski took a look at four areas of need on the Philadelphia Eagles that the team could look to upgrade before the deadline. So in today's trade-heavy edition of 'What They're Saying,' we're going to take a look at some of the latest NFL trade rumors and how they impact the Eagles, with a specific focus on the four positions Jimmy wrote about on Monday.Running backWe've heard the Le'Veon Bell and LeSean McCoy rumors for a while now — you can read the latest on McCoy, here — but what if the Eagles look to make a slightly smaller splash at the deadline, as Jimmy Kempski suggests:The Eagles could add a running back, but the need for a big name guy isn't there. Because of the way NFL contracts are structured, there is no easy way to define "highest-paid players."Is the player with the highest salary? Well, most top players get a huge chunk of their money in signing bonuses. Is it the highest average annual salary? Well, that considers the entire deal, and most players never see the end of their contracts. Is it who will be paid the most money this year? That would be biased towards players who signed new contracts this year because so much money is in the signing bonus.Because of this, we have broken up the players by the highest-paid in different categories. Depending on which criteria you use, the answer to "highest-paid" can be entirely different.Categories include: The 5 players who will be paid the most in 2018The 5 largest base salariesThe 5 largest average-annual salariesThe 5 largest salary-cap hitsThe 5 largest contractsThe 5 contracts with the most guaranteed moneyData via Spotrac and other sources. 30 PHOTOS NFL's … [Read more...] about NFL’s highest-paid players for the 2018 season
(Image: Getty) After years of dating, Miami Heat guard LeBron James finally proposed to the mother of his two sons, and high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson. The NBA all-star popped the question at SL Nightclub in Miami during a New Year’s Eve celebration, which doubled as his 27th birthday party, with a ring reportedly worth $300,000. While news of the engagement is certainly reason to celebrate, given the growing trend of high profile NBA divorces and just as a rule of thumb for anyone with a lot of assets, some suggest James should also err in the side of caution. According to Forbes.com, three out of the top five most hated NBA players–Kris Humphries, Kobe Bryant and Tony Parker–have gone through very public and costly divorces. Coincidentally, following his controversial move from Cleveland to Miami, James is second on that list of despised basketball stars. If his marriage where to fail due to infidelity or any other public disgrace, his image and brand … [Read more...] about Will Marriage Help or Hurt LeBron James’ Brand?
Devin Singletary runs during spring football practice at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton on March 22, 2018. (Richard Graulich / The Palm Beach Post) After only two seasons at Florida Atlantic, rising junior running back Devin Singletary (American Heritage) is arguably the greatest player in program history — and, at least to CBS Sports’ Will Brinson, the All-American could parlay that into becoming a first-round pick in next spring’s NFL Draft. In a “way too early” mock for the 2019 NFL Draft, Brinson has Singletary not only leaving school early, but being selected with the 30th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. “Piling up yards on a Lane Kiffin team will result in Singletary getting significant draft traction,” Brinson explained. “And I’m going to assume the Steelers don’t keep Le’Veon Bell after this year.” Singletary, 20, ran for 1,920 yards and an FBS-best 32 rushing … [Read more...] about Florida Atlantic’s Devin Singletary projected to be first-round pick in 2019 NFL Draft by CBS Sports
