Patong’s Keesin clan yet to face Phuket mafia charges
PHUKET: The Public Prosecutor has yet to press formal charges against Prab and Pattawee Keesin, both sons of former Patong Mayor Pian Keesin, for operating a mafia organization. Pisitpol Phumsawat, chief Phuket public prosecutor, confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that his office was still reviewing evidence presented by the police “I have dedicated a team to investigate the police claims,” said Mr Pisitpol. “This case has received a lot of media attention, so we have to work on it carefully in order to be fair to both sides.” No deadline has been set for the Public Prosecutor Office to decided whether or not to take the case to court, he added. Phetchabun, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai and Buri Ram topped the fatalities with seven deaths each over the two days, while Chiang Mai also had the most accidents at 49. Nakhon Sawan had the most injuries at 52 over the two days, Probation Department chief Kannika Saengthong said. Only Rayong and Phang Nga had no accidents, she said. On December 31, there were 625 road accidents with 70 people killed and 641 injured, she said. Major contributing factors were drunk driving at 42 per cent and speeding at 26 per cent. Phuket baby saved from trash pile
PHUKET: A Phuket baby boy, thought to be just hours old and with the umbilical cord still attached, has been found abandoned near a dump site in Kathu. Phongthep Joyjard, a respected elder who lives in the area, discovered the newborn while he was out exercising on Soi Saithong near the dump site on Tuesday evening. He heard the baby crying and followed the sound to find him wrapped in a towel inside a fertilizer sack, police said. The unnamed infant, who had suffered no injuries other than some insect bites on his face, was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital by officers of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation section of Kathu Municipality. THE LATEST Barbara Lange, the 76 year old woman who went missing from her Phuket hotel earlier this month, is now headed back home to Germany. Yesterday, a team from the Phuket Tourist Assistance Center helped Barbara and her family at the Phuket International Airport. This news comes after Barbara was released from the hospital earlier this week. Barbara and her family thanked everyone who has helped them. Barbara is reportedly healthy, and happy to be going home. Barbara, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, went missing on May 9 after she went on a walk from her hotel in Thalang district. Rescuers found her on May 16 in a helicopter search in Sirinat National Park.
