What Is A Federal Gas Tax Holiday? Here’s How It Could Impact Prices At The Pump.

June 22, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline President Joe Biden proposed Wednesday a federal gas tax holiday, as gas prices hover around record highs nationally, in a move that would instantly provide some relief to consumers—though some warn may not be the cure-all Biden seeks. Key Facts Biden called on Congress to pass a three-month federal gas tax holiday, which would suspend federal taxes on gas during the period. This would make gas 18 cents cheaper per gallon and diesel 24 cents cheaper. The proposal actually comes as prices are slightly decreasing: the national average price per gallon of gas is $4.955 Wednesday, according to the American Automobile Association, a slight drop from its peak of $5.016 last Tuesday but still a sharp increase from a year ago, when it was $3.069 average per gallon. Despite the holiday likely providing some quick relief at the pump, it may contribute to further inflation by providing an indirect … [Read more...] about What Is A Federal Gas Tax Holiday? Trade Watchlist Portfolio Message Set Alert live bse live nse live Volume Todays L/H More × The market was off to a quiet start on June 20 after the hammering of the previous week but resumed the downtrend immediately, with the Nifty sliding towards the low of 15,200. Positive global cues lifted sentiment the next day and the market had a decent relief rally in which it retested 15,700. Some tremors were felt mid-week but the Nifty held on to key support levels. A good broad-based participation saw the Nifty at around 15,700. The index is back at 15,700, the recent breakdown point, hence, the market has entered a corridor of uncertainty. Till the time Nifty does not go past its major hurdle of 15,900–16,000 on a closing basis, one should avoid aggressive bets on the long side. It will be interesting to see how the market behaves in the first half of the week. Primark Trials Online Sales At Last But Warns Of Price Hikes

June 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of store-based retail's last bastions, Primark, is to trial a click-and-collect service in the U.K. in its first significant move into online shopping. Yet the move by the fast fashion giant comes with plenty of caveats. The retailer said that it will launch the trial at 25 stores in the north-west of England by the end of the year, but added that the pilot would only include children’s apparel and accessories. Primark-owner ABF said as part of a trading update Monday: “We have chosen a much-expanded range of children’s products for this trial, which we believe has the potential to satisfy unfulfilled demand, driving footfall from both existing and new customers to deliver incremental sales in store.” Customers will be able to order from about 2,000 items online, representing around 40% of the range, including nursery furniture, apparel and licensed products. This move reflects the company’s aim to attract … [Read more...] about Primark Trials Online Sales At Last But Warns Of Price Hikes

Daily Voice | Margin normalisation will take 2-3 quarters if commodity prices stabilise: Ashutosh Tiwari of Equirus

March 31, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

"A good Rabi crop harvest is now critical for rural demand revival and, in turn, improvement in pricing power of different industries,"  Ashutosh Tiwari, Managing Director-Equities,  Equirus, said in an interview with Moneycontrol. After a significant rise in commodity prices, he feels margins are likely to remain under pressure due to commodity inflation as well as an increase in freight costs due to the rise in diesel prices, and believes that price increases by corporates will be gradual. Hence, margin normalisation will take 2-3 quarters if commodity prices stabilise, says Tiwari, who has more than a decade of experience in equity research. Edited excerpts: Do you think the Fed action going ahead will be a bigger cue than the Ukraine-Russia war now, for the equity market? The Ukraine-Russia war seems to be priced in by the market. Fed rates are likely to go up to the level of 2-2.25 percent over the next one year, driven by inflation. If there is a further increase in … [Read more...] about Daily Voice | Margin normalisation will take 2-3 quarters if commodity prices stabilise: Ashutosh Tiwari of Equirus

June 21, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Crude oil sell-off a bit overdone as prices could be ticking back up soon, says Vandana Hari of Vanda Insights

June 20, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Brent crude futures slipped 3 cents to $113.09 a barrel by 0515 GMT, after rising as much as 1 percent earlier. Front-month prices tumbled 7.3 percent last week, their first weekly fall in five (Representative image) After shooting to near $123 per barrel last week amid various global factors, crude oil prices slid by as much as 6 percent or $11 to $112 per barrel on June 17. This was a sudden reversal from the steep climb in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, global travel opening up, and services reviving. Speaking to CNBC-TV18 on June 20, Vandana Hari, founder and CEO of Vanda Insights, said the correction was mainly due to two factors — Libya’s oil production being confirmed at 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) instead of the earlier expected 100,000 bpd; and tumble in United States markets due to sell-off in broader risk assets. “What happened on Friday (June 17) was quite late in the US session and quite a surprise,” Hari said.
