Why does creative cloud says start trial

So, You’ve Been Knocked Off. Congratulations!

April 30, 2019 by www.inc.com

In her article "The Real Danger of Going on 'Shark Tank': Copycats" for the Wall Street Journal last weekend, writer Ruth Simon documents the consequences of going public with your product idea. If it's promising, it will be imitated quickly... and even if it isn't, others may accuse you of being a thief. As an example, Simon relays the ordeal of Lori Cheek, an entrepreneur who appeared on the show in 2014. Her dating business still doesn't have any revenue. "But it has accumulated more than $60,000 in legal bills, after a viewer of the show accused Ms. Cheek of stealing his idea." Ouch. Here's the reality: If you have a great new product, it will get copied. Even if you have a patent, trademark, and/or copyright protection. In my opinion, it's literally impossible to protect anything these days. Reverse engineering is as doable as ever. If counterfeiters don't steal from you outright, a close alternative may pop up on the market. And make no mistake. It's not just … [Read more...] about So, You’ve Been Knocked Off. Congratulations!

CNN Exclusive: Biden administration offers convicted Russian arms dealer in exchange for Griner, Whelan

July 27, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Washington (CNN) After months of internal debate, the Biden administration has offered to exchange Viktor Bout , a convicted Russian arms trafficker serving a 25-year US prison sentence, as part of a potential deal to secure the release of two Americans held by Russia , Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan, according to people briefed on the matter. These sources told CNN that the plan to trade Bout for Whelan and Griner received the backing of President Joe Biden after being under discussion since earlier this year. Biden's support for the swap overrides opposition from the Department of Justice, which is generally against prisoner trades. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that "so far, there is no agreement on this issue." Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Wednesday that the US presented a "substantial proposal" to Moscow "weeks ago" for Whelan and Griner, who are classified as wrongfully detained. Speaking at a press … [Read more...] about CNN Exclusive: Biden administration offers convicted Russian arms dealer in exchange for Griner, Whelan

What Inventors Need to Know About Trade Shows

May 30, 2018 by www.inc.com

If you're serious about bringing your ideas for products to market, you should absolutely attend trade shows. They're always eye-opening. The only way to truly understand the mechanics of any industry is by attending its trade shows. One guarantee? You'll be overwhelmed. I've attended all kinds of shows over the course of my career as a product developer , including toys, back-to-school, pet, housewares, hardware, electronic, promotional, music, and more. Checking out the latest innovations and making new friends at a trade show never fails to inspire me. But I've also wasted a lot of time attending the wrong shows and not having clearly defined goals. When you're starting out, it's especially important that you make good decisions. Your resources are limited! Preparation is key. At trade shows, I meet inventors who have spent years and tens of thousands of dollars getting ready to show their product to the world. They've paid for a booth and now today's the big … [Read more...] about What Inventors Need to Know About Trade Shows

How to License a Design Patent

May 3, 2019 by www.inc.com

People think that you need a utility patent in order to license an invention. But that's not the case. Design patents have more value than they used to. Recently, I helped two orthodontists license a simple improvement in their field using a design patent. I've been told many times that design patents don't have a lot of value. However, if an invention must be shaped a certain way to work correctly -- which was true in their case -- a design patent may afford some protection on the overall appearance. (Particularly if a utility patent is still pending or unobtainable.) In this way, a design patent can still be a significant barrier to competitors. Dr. Christopher Cetta of St. Petersburg, Florida and his partner Dr. Richard Kaye from Moorestown, New Jersey specialize in straightening teeth and correcting bites. In an interview, Cetta described the origin of his dental invention the Precision Aligner Button . "Clear plastic aligners are being used in orthodontics … [Read more...] about How to License a Design Patent

The Best Form of Protection For Your Invention Idea

February 2, 2022 by www.inc.com

If you're afraid someone is going to steal your idea, you're not alone. This is a very common fear. Will a patent help? No, not really. Not in the way you've been led to believe, anyway. Here's the truth. Protecting your idea completely -- meaning excluding all imitators -- is going to be difficult at best. If your idea becomes a successful product, the copycats won't be far behind . There will be infringers and knockoffs. This is simply a fact of life. As a person who is coming up with new ideas, I know this is not what you want to hear. It's a little bit discouraging even. But you shouldn't let this reality stop you, because there is good news. Today, success in the marketplace is all about selling first and fast, and the quickest way to transform an idea into a widely distributed product is by partnering with a company already in business. That's why licensing your invention to a company that has great relationships with major retailers is the best form of protection you can … [Read more...] about The Best Form of Protection For Your Invention Idea

This news outlet is exposing Big Tech’s practices by building its own tech tools

May 3, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

In 2020, 56% of Americans agreed that journalists were purposely trying to mislead people, illustrating an unprecedented dip in confidence in the press. With that backdrop, and in an election year with peak political polarization, rolling out a brand-new media publication was “absurd,” admits Nabiha Syed, president of The Markup , a digital outlet focused on holding tech companies accountable. “How are we going to get people to trust us when they’ve never heard of us, especially when we are interrogating tools that people are using and are sometimes beloved?” advertisement advertisement But the founders felt that the site’s mission was critical: to investigate the power and practices of Big Tech. Plus, it was going to do things differently. The Markup is nonprofit newsroom, funded by philanthropists, including more than $20 million from Craigslist founder Craig Newmark. It is data-driven, and only publishes about twice a week, in order to be as … [Read more...] about This news outlet is exposing Big Tech’s practices by building its own tech tools

The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.

July 29, 2022 by www.inc.com

Startup founders need every tool at their disposal to successfully launch and grow their businesses. One of those tools is a clear understanding of how the licensing business model can be employed to support their goals , including speed to market and filing intellectual property that is attractive to investors. The concept of licensing has been around for a very long time. The inventor of the first patented technology -- Samuel Hopkins, in 1790, for a new method of manufacturing potash and pearl ash -- licensed it to a local businessman the next year, says historian Arthur Daemmrich at the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. Basically, one party (the inventor or artist) grants another party (typically a company) the right to produce and sell something they created. As far as I can tell, most startup founders aren't very familiar with the concept of licensing a product onto the market. Venturing -- the traditional method of bringing a … [Read more...] about The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.

Opinion: Putin’s prisoner swap calculus

July 13, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Jill Dougherty is adjunct professor at Georgetown University and a former CNN Moscow Bureau Chief. The views expressed in this commentary are her own. View more opinion on CNN. (CNN) Some of the most dramatic -- and diplomatically delicate -- moments in United States-Russia relations are linked to prisoner exchanges. Jill Dougherty February 10, 1962: In a Cold War, Hollywood-style trade on the Glienicke Bridge between Berlin and Potsdam, two men -- an American and a Soviet -- walked in opposite directions across what would decades later be known as the "Bridge of Spies." They were Francis Gary Powers, the American pilot of a spy plane shot down over the USSR, and Soviet KGB colonel Rudolph Abel, who had served five years in the US on espionage charges. More than half a century later, Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, certainly knows the value of prisoner swaps. The Unexpected Benefit of Licensing a Product Idea

August 6, 2015 by www.inc.com

I could tout the benefits of licensing product ideas all day long. Sometimes it feels like I do. As a creative, licensing has always been attractive to me. I enjoy improving upon existing products and making people smile. I’m much less interested in the practical realities of running a successful product business, like manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. I know for sure because I once started a guitar pick business in-between licensing deals. It was a wild, exciting, stressful ride. We ended up selling Hot Picks in more than 10,000 stores nationwide as well as winning “Best in Show” at NAMM twice in a row. Some inventors disagree with me. Their attitude is, “ I’m the one that came up with this great idea, but now I’m only getting paid a tiny fraction of each unit that sells?” Coming up with a marketable product idea just isn’t that difficult. I’m happy to outsource the heavy lifting in exchange for passive income. At the end of the day, I think the best way of looking … [Read more...] about The Unexpected Benefit of Licensing a Product Idea
