Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An alternative to the many fast fashion brands in the world, One Golden Thread crafts feel-good fashion for the conscious collective. Their mission is to connect humanity by a golden thread to nature, an elemental reminder that caring for the planet begins by caring first for self with love. They source the world’s most ethically-luxurious “super-natural” fibers to create their One Golden Thread fabric, and their regenerative model replenishes nature, planting a tree for every item sold. I sat down with Jeff Scult, the founder and chief creative officer to talk about his incredibly inspirational journey that started as a personal quest to create and reimagine world’s most perfect tee back in 2017. As a first time clothing designer at the age of 51 with no formal design training yet a life-long reverence for craft and nuance, Jeff wasn’t harbored with any restrictive or standard “ways of doing things.” He designed for … [Read more...] about How Jeff Scult And One Golden Thread Are Creating A Regenerative Fashion Brand That Uplifts People And The Planet

This is how I lead with compassion as a queer, Black woman in tech
Recently, a friend and leader sent me an SOS about her new IT job, “I don’t know how you did this, please send help. How do I succeed here as a woman?” We set up a series of mentorship calls, but my overarching advice for her echoed throughout: “You deserve a seat at the table. Don’t act like you’re new or stay quiet. Take up space–you’re in that room for a reason. Speak with confidence. Don’t undermine yourself.” advertisement advertisement I no longer hide myself at work. But it wasn’t always this way. When I started my career in tech, I was already living inauthentically. I was married to a man, and my colleagues were mostly straight, white men, whose clothing styles I emulated to try to fit in. Yes, that meant I showed up to work most days in khakis and a polo shirt. I wasn’t dressing for my personality, I was dressing to play a role. A manager at the time pulled me aside and told me I needed to dress more professionally, which really meant … [Read more...] about This is how I lead with compassion as a queer, Black woman in tech
Director Park Chan-wook tones it down for his latest film, ‘Decision to Leave’
Park Chan-wook [CJ ENM] For the first time in many years, the newest film directed by Park Chan-wook, “Decision to Leave,” for which he received Best Director at this year’s Cannes, isn’t rated R. Compared to his prior films such as “The Handmaiden” (2016), “Thirst” (2009), “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” (2005), “Oldboy” (2003) and “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), the degree of sexually explicit and violent scenes has been toned down. The film rides a fine line between investigative drama and romance as a police detective named Hae-jun, portrayed by Park Hae-il, begins to fall for a suspect — a Chinese widow named Seo-rae, portrayed by Tang Wei. Seo-rae is on the police radar for presumably having killed her husband, who was found dead at the base of a mountain. At a press event on June 2, Park, fresh back from Cannes, said that the two genres cannot be separated: “A detective meets a suspect, gains information about her, questions her, follows her and goes on a stakeout to … [Read more...] about Director Park Chan-wook tones it down for his latest film, ‘Decision to Leave’
Kiszla: Can Avalanche build a dynasty despite harsh economic realities of NHL?
The first, glorious taste of sweet champagne from the Stanley Cup in 21 years only wet everybody’s whistle. Avalanche Country thirsts for a big gulp of glory. With a strong core built to last around defenseman Cale Makar and center Nathan MacKinnon, dare we dream of a hockey dynasty? The Avs could be the guiding light in the dawning of a new golden age of pro sports in Colorado, with quarterback Russell Wilson throwing touchdown passes for the Broncos when not sitting alongside his Denver peeps, leading cheers for Gabe Landeskog or Nikola Jokic. As the Cup was waltzed around the ice during giddy moments immediately after a 2-1 victory against Tampa Bay clinched the championship on a steamy Monday night in Florida, the newly crowned champs approached franchise owner Stan Kroenke, who has built a sprawling sports empire that spans the globe from Los Angeles to London. “The minute I came down here,” said Kroenke, surrounded by reporters in Amalie Arena, “the players were … [Read more...] about Kiszla: Can Avalanche build a dynasty despite harsh economic realities of NHL?
Cooperation by U.S. and allies a step toward ‘Asian NATO,’ N.Korea media says
Members of South Korea and U.S. Special forces take part in a joint military exercise. - A + A SEOUL (June 29): Joint drills by the United States, South Korea and Japan have a "sinister aim" toward North Korea and are part of a dangerous prelude to the creation of an "Asian version of NATO", North Korean state news agency KCNA said on Wednesday. The reports on KCNA appeared hours before leaders of South Korea and Japan are due to attend NATO's annual summit as observers for the first time. They will also meet U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss North Korea, the first such trilateral summit since 2017. The three countries will also conduct a combined missile detection and tracking exercise near Hawaii in August, called Pacific Dragon. Opinion: All Ukrainian children know to ‘never leave breadcrumbs on the table’

The views expressed in this commentary are her own. View more opinio n on CNN. (CNN) Growing up in Ukraine, one learns not to leave breadcrumbs on the table. My generation of Millennials was taught this pious reverence to bread by our grandparents who survived the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine -- known as the Holodomor. Daria Mattingly Many a time I heard the story of how a soup with wild sorrel saved my grandmother and her siblings while the grain collected from her village was left to rot at the train station. That wheat could have saved so many lives, but "the state" did not allow it. My grandmother could not stand the sight of sorrel for the rest of her life, and always kept her … [Read more...] about Opinion: All Ukrainian children know to ‘never leave breadcrumbs on the table’
Opinion: Why so many workers are still quitting their jobs
Dana Peterson is an executive vice president and chief economist at The Conference Board. The opinions expressed in this commentary are her own. Aside from, "You're on mute," "I quit" has likely become one of the most popular sayings in the US over the last two years. But while more people are returning to in-person meetings, quitting does not appear to be letting up. Indeed, an astounding 4.4 million people quit their jobs in April, and there are 11.4 million jobs waiting to be filled, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) . So why are so many workers quitting? Here are four factors driving the so-called "Great Resignation" — and what businesses have been doing to stem the tide. Money Higher wages are among the many reasons that workers quit their jobs today. Just prior to the pandemic, the BLS' labor share of income — the percentage of economic output that goes to workers in the form of compensation — was just … [Read more...] about Opinion: Why so many workers are still quitting their jobs
This is what companies get wrong when hiring a Chief Diversity Officer
In the beginning of 2020, when the pandemic first hit and businesses started to realize its economic implications, guess which jobs were some of the first on the chopping block? advertisement advertisement If you guessed jobs in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), you’re absolutely right. In the frenzy of response strategies and emergency planning, many businesses determined that these positions were expendable . That was partly due to a business rationale – Diversity positions are not exactly responsible for supply chains or sales – but it was also the product of 50+ years of corporate America diminishing and disregarding the role DEI plays. It was therefore an ugly irony when the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 prompted so many of those corporations to rethink their position. Suddenly, corporate leaders were terrified about how to respond to their employees. Movements like Black Lives Matter took center stage and encouraged us all to question … [Read more...] about This is what companies get wrong when hiring a Chief Diversity Officer

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
Nintendo has impeccable timing. Just when Animal Crossing: New Horizons was on the verge of going stale with the lack of new content, the developer recently announced a July 3 update that adds major new features. The most obvious one is swimming and diving. It’s an option that appeared previously in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch title. Players will need to grab a wet suit so they can swim and dive around their islands. Players can’t go far but they can hug the coast and find new sea creatures to add to their museum and perhaps terrify Blathers. Along with swimming, Pascal, a red sea otter, will make an appearance in New Horizons . He loves scallops and if players find one, they can trade it to him for mermaid-themed crafting recipes. Lastly, Gulliver has a wardrobe change. He's dressed more like a pirate and helping him will get players a special reward. Although his tasks to find his communicator pieces are redundant at times, … [Read more...] about ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
