The visiting New England Patriots were just short of the marker, and now head coach Bill Belichick had a choice. It was fourth down and they were sitting at their own 45 yard line, with just inside of two minutes left, both in the game and in this dispiriting season. If nothing else, dignity was at stake here. The book said to punt. Instead, Belichick looked out at Drew Bledsoe and told his quarterback to stay on the field. Why not just put an end to it with one play here? On the CBS telecast, the announcers perked up. The New England Patriots have four draft picks in the first two rounds, setting them up for a potential big move. Some think the Patriots could package those picks to move up in the draft and select one of the top quarterbacks as a future replacement for Tom Brady. While the Patriots have needs at several positions, this year’s deep draft may be the best time to make a move for a future quarterback. The New England Patriots agreed to a blockbuster trade on Tuesday, sending wide receiver Brandin Cooks and a fourth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for first-round and sixth-round draft picks. The move has ramifications and side-effects for both parties, but perhaps the most significant takeaway is the Patriots are now loaded with draft picks this season. The Patriots now own two first-round picks (theirs and the Rams’), two second-round picks (theirs and the San Francisco 49ers’), and a … [Read more...] about There is growing buzz that the Patriots’ latest trade could put them in position to find Tom Brady’s future replacement

It's easy to look at the dynasty that the New England Patriots have built and fall into the trap of trying to hire a Tom Brady. That surely, once you have that superstar in place, it will lead to championships, glory, and bonuses for everyone. Not everyone remembers that before Brady was the superstar he is today, the sixth-round draft pick who was in a battle to even make the team. From there he was coached and developed. He learned to seize opportunities as they presented themselves. As they say, leaders are made, not born. The same can be said for superstars, too. Instead of throwing your resources into hiring a superstar for your business, here's a better way to build a winning team. The development trap that many leaders fall into is looking for whoever has the best … [Read more...] about Don’t Waste Your Time Trying to Hire a ‘Tom Brady.’ Here’s a Better Way to Build a Winning Team in Southeast Asia
The origin story of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady inspired Harry Kane, once an unwanted and gangly teenager, to overcome rejection and storm to the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts. In a column for The Players Tribune, titled “Zero to 100” to celebrate his 100th Premier League goal on Sunday, Kane said he watched a documentary about Brady in 2013 and it changed his life forever. Brady, now considered one of the greatest American football players of all time, was not drafted until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. That crushing rejection at the start of an athlete’s career is something Kane related to after he was released by Arsenal when he was just eight years old. Kane had a brief spell with Ridgeway Rovers, a non-league club famous for helping launch David Beckham’s career, and Watford. But, in 2004, he signed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur. It could have been his big break but he spent the next four seasons on loan with four … [Read more...] about How Tom Brady inspired an unwanted gangly teenager into becoming the Premier League’s top goal scorer
PHOTO CREDIT: Getty Images I've met a lot of really famous people, and they tend to fall into two basic camps. In most cases -- even if the whole point is for us to sit down together, like for a scheduled interview -- it goes something like this: I walk in the room. Other people in the room look up, notice me, and make eye contact. Most smile or nod. The famous person doesn't look up. He's (it's always a he) "busy" even if he's not actually doing anything. I walk over to introduce myself to him. "Hi," I say, "I'm Jeff Haden. It's great to meet you." We shake hands. Occasionally he makes eye contact. But he doesn't introduce himself. After all, I know who he is, right? While you hold that thought, imagine that you're Patrick Develin. You played college football, didn't get drafted by an NFL team, managed to play one game in the Arena Football League, made the Bengal's practice squad for a year and were then let go... where professional football careers are concerned, you're as fringe as … [Read more...] about What Tom Brady Does When He Meets New Patriot Players for the First Time Is What Most Famous People Never Do
