How Loom became TikTok for enterprises

March 2, 2023 by www.fastcompany.com

Loom is No. 45 on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2023 . Explore the full list of companies that are reshaping industries and culture. Video communication has become de rigueur since the pandemic, but rather than just moving a meeting from a conference room to a screen, Loom does something different. It takes the short-form video phenomenon and turns it into an effective way for businesses to pitch clients, explain how a product works, or share information internally. Think of it like TikTok for enterprises. By allowing customers to create short videos (up to five minutes long) that can be watched anytime and shared as needed, the eight-year-old company helps its 18 million users across 350,000 businesses eschew time-sucking scheduled video meetings, both internally and externally. Those clients—which include Netflix, HubSpot, and P&G’s Tide brand—have been using it a lot. As of December, more than 215 million “looms” had been … [Read more...] about How Loom became TikTok for enterprises

This company is making expense reports way less of a hassle

March 2, 2023 by www.fastcompany.com

Ramp is No. 9 on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2023 . Explore the full list of companies that are reshaping industries and culture. Ramp cofounder and CEO Eric Glyman may lead an enterprise software company, but he’s not the type of guy who relishes the hard sell. (Ramp’s first sales hire, he says, was focused on customer success, not deals.) Instead, he likes to let Ramp’s products, including a corporate card and spend-management platform, do the talking. “We try to show the value first and let customers come to their own views,” Glyman says. A free calculator on the company’s website, for instance, predicts the dollar amount that prospective customers can expect to save if they switch to Ramp, based on their recent financials. If last year is any indication, Ramp’s product-first, gimmick-free approach has struck a chord, especially with small-business owners. More than 13,000 businesses now use the platform, a threefold increase year … [Read more...] about This company is making expense reports way less of a hassle

BREADWINNER   Teodora Vega inside her “sari-sari” store in Pasig —photos by Gillian Villanueva Nearly 20 years ago, Veronica Garcia used to hawk sili, kamias, sampalok and other spices in a pushcart. As her husband was not earning enough as taho and binatog vendor, she decided to start selling vegetables and other goods as well. Her sister, who had her own car, helped her buy products in Divisoria, Urdaneta, Pangasinan, and other provinces. Nowadays, she is able to relax at home while her children tend to her stalls at a nearby wet market in Pasig. Her husband helps with the household chores. “I was pushing around a kariton , until I was able to rent a stall, until the stall became my own,” the 51-year-old says. Part of the reason that she was able to succeed in growing her business was the financing she was able to get from ASA Philippines Foundation. Her sister, who used to be a member of ASA, introduced her to the microfinance company. At that time, Garcia was still … [Read more...] about Empowering Pinay microentrepreneurs

Student Engagement Matters More Than Attendance; Why Don’t Schools Track It?

March 25, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The importance of engagement in both workplace and educational success has been well illustrated over the last 20 years by the analytics company Gallup. Even though tracking engagement throughout the day can be quickly done in the traditional classroom, schools remain focused on attendance. But why should they when mental presence, more than physical presence, is the necessary precondition for learning? There is data supporting the importance of engagement engagement. In a meta-analysis of decades of corporate engagement data, Gallup found that high engagement consistently leads to more positive outcomes, such as higher productivity, lower absenteeism, higher quality work, and higher job satisfaction. Likewise, with in grades 5 to 12, Gallup found engaged students are 2.5 times more likely to say they do well in school and are 4.5 times more hopeful about their futures than their disengaged peers. March 25, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Brands are taking advantage of the national attention on both men’s and women’s basketball athletes during March Madness, but their strategies differ. Some had campaigns ready to go before the tournaments began, while others have been sitting on the sidelines waiting to see which programs and athletes emerge as this year’s biggest stories. Last year, Doug Edert and his signature mustache cashed in when Saint Peter's made history by becoming the first 15 seed to advance to the Elite Eight. Entering March in 2022, Edert had around 1,500 followers on Instagram and was rarely posting. A year later, he has more than 148,000 followers and has worked with national brands like Buffalo Wild Wings and Barstool Sports. Edert’s mustache is again a focus this year as it adorns special edition Pringles cans. The ““March Mustache Collection” also features Duke’s Dariq Whitehead and Virginia’s Ben Vander Plas. Top Private School Applications Surge Amidst South Florida’s Real Estate Boom

March 24, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Enrollment at top private schools in South Florida is booming, as many out-of-state families have moved to South Florida in the years since the pandemic, seeking sunny weather, and escaping state income tax. For families in the region and those moving South, increasingly competitive enrollment trends can make choosing the right school particularly difficult and necessitate strategy and forethought. The resources and experiences that students gain during their high school years will position them for success in the college admissions process and equip them to excel in higher education and beyond—but not every school is right for every student. An excellent high school will prioritize individual growth and development and provide opportunities for students to hone their interests both in and out of the classroom. While South Florida has many top-notch public and magnet schools, the influx of new residents in the region … [Read more...] about Top Private School Applications Surge Amidst South Florida’s Real Estate Boom

Court Rules That Internet Archive Violated Publishers’ Copyrights By Lending Ebooks

March 26, 2023 by www.chiangraitimes.com

(CTN News) – In a high-profile case brought by the Internet Archive against a group of four US publishers led by Hachette Book Group, a federal judge has ruled in favor of the publishers. According to Reuters, Judge John G. Koeltl ruled on Friday that the nonprofit had infringed upon the group’s copyrights by lending out digitally scanned copies of its books. A lawsuit was filed over the Internet Archive’s decision to launch a “ National Emergency Library ” during the early stages of the pandemic. As a result of the program, the organization provided access to more than 1.4 million free ebooks, including copyrighted works, in response to the closure of libraries worldwide due to Coronavirus lockdowns. A “controlled digital lending” system was used for the Internet Archive’s Open Library program before March 2020, which meant that there was often a waitlist to borrow a book. Due to the pandemic, the Internet Archive lifted these restrictions in order to facilitate access … [Read more...] about Court Rules That Internet Archive Violated Publishers’ Copyrights By Lending Ebooks
