A simple 5-step system to ace performance reviews
My first-ever performance review was for a huge consulting firm. It felt like drinking water from a firehose: How could I condense everything I’d done and learned into a few paragraphs? I stayed up all night, hacking together a list. But when I was done, I realized I’d missed the mark. All I had created was a record of the activities I’d done. The “so what?” wasn’t there. It wasn’t an ideal way to kick off my career. So, I developed a system that helped me track and celebrate my milestones and prepare for my reviews—without subjecting myself to disgusting coffee and all-nighters. Here’s my system, and how you can adapt it for your performance reviews. Step 1: Identify your metrics A successful performance review connects your accomplishments to metrics that matter. So, how do you identify the most important metrics? Pull verbs from your job description When you boil down a job description down, the verbs are what matter. Those words—along with … [Read more...] about A simple 5-step system to ace performance reviews
Back together? Elisse Joson, McCoy de Leon extra sweet during wedding of friend Verniece Enciso
Elisse Joson and McCoy de Leon were among the guests of Verniece Enciso’s wedding. Images: Instagram/@elissejosonn, Instagram/@officialtimyap It seems that Elisse Joson and McCoy de Leon have rekindled their romance after a falling out earlier this year when they were seen in a number of events together, the most recent of which was the wedding of content creators Verniece Enciso and James Alfred Dichaves last weekend as each other’s plus-one. The Enciso-Dichaves wedding marked the first time that Joson and de Leon, also known as McLisse, were seen together in public after the latter wiped clean his Instagram page, and left only a family photo with the former and their daughter Felize in February. The controversial couple sparked reconciliation rumors after Joson uploaded a selfie of herself leaning on de Leon, on her personal Instagram account on Sunday, March 26. “My date,” she wrote on the photo. Navy SEALs Could Literally Waterboard Bill Belichick, And He Wouldn’t Crack
You gotta love Bill Belichick. The NFL owners meetings held their second day of festivities Monday, and it gave an opportunity for the press to talk with different head coaches around the league, including the New England Patriots’ Bill Belichick . Well, despite the media getting a chance to talk with the skippers, Belichick didn’t give them much. In fact, he was so stone-faced and simple with his words that it got me thinking … Navy SEALs could literally waterboard Bill Belichick, and he wouldn’t crack. Maybe we should have some kind of “Bill Belichick Training Class” in our military, teaching our soldiers how to be completely unbreakable in crucial and tense moments. God, that would be great. Bill Belichick has arrived pic.twitter.com/wvPZ9KnVgz — Karen Guregian (@kguregian) March 27, 2023 First interview with Bill Belichick since Jan. 9, the day after the season ended. pic.twitter.com/vuQCP86ObV — Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) March 27, 2023 Here are … [Read more...] about Navy SEALs Could Literally Waterboard Bill Belichick, And He Wouldn’t Crack
Ben of Ben & Jerry trades ice cream for cannabis
Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s is telling me a story about smoking pot. We’re on Zoom, and he says: “The idea came about when I was on a camping trip with a friend of mine, sitting around a fire, smoking a joint. And we were saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to have pot like the old days?’” The idea Cohen is referring to is his latest venture, the eponymously named Ben’s Best Blnz , or B3. The just-launched company is a bright, bold cannabis brand that offers low-THC pre-rolls and full-spectrum vapes. Much like his endeavors in ice cream, Cohen set out to use B3’s platform as a conduit for what he refers to as “social benefit.” B3 is registered as a nonprofit, with 100% of its profits split between three entities: 10% will go to the Last Prisoner Project , an organization dedicated to freeing individuals impacted by cannabis criminalization; another 10% will be donated to the Vermont Racial Justice Alliance , whose mission is to “secure sustainable power, ensure … [Read more...] about Ben of Ben & Jerry trades ice cream for cannabis
‘Friends’, ‘Grace and Frankie’ creator outfoxes sexism
This 2016 photo provided by Netflix shows writer/producer Marta Kauffman, from left, Jane Fonda, as Grace Hanson, and Lily Tomlin, as Frankie Bergstein, in a scene from “Grace and Frankie”. Image: Netflix/Melissa Mosley via AP Ask Marta Kauffman if there will be a “Friends” reunion someday, and the answer is a crisp “nope.” Kauffman, who created the enduringly popular sitcom with David Crane and was an executive producer from start to finish, is focused on what’s now and next, not what’s past. She’s moved on from the 1994-2004 network-airbrushed adventures of young New York pals to the unvarnished pains and pleasures of older women — and, subordinately, men — in “Grace and Frankie”. The Netflix comedy is in the hunt to add 2019 Emmy Award nominations to those earned in its first four seasons by stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who also have received Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe and other nods of recognition. “Friends” can boast of nabbing a best comedy series Emmy in … [Read more...] about ‘Friends’, ‘Grace and Frankie’ creator outfoxes sexism
China spent $240B bailing out ‘Belt and Road’ countries, study shows
JOHANNESBURG -China spent $240 billion bailing out 22 developing countries between 2008 and 2021, with the amount soaring in recent years as more have struggled to repay loans spent building “Belt and Road” infrastructure, a study published on Tuesday showed. Almost 80 percent of the lending was made between 2016 and 2021, mainly to middle-income countries including Argentina, Mongolia and Pakistan, according to the report by researchers from the World Bank, Harvard Kennedy School, AidData and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. China has lent hundreds of billions of dollars to build infrastructure in developing countries, but lending has tailed off since 2016 as many projects have failed to pay the expected financial dividends. “Beijing is ultimately trying to rescue its own banks. That’s why it has gotten into the risky business of international bailout lending,” said Carmen Reinhart, a former World Bank chief economist and one of the study’s authors. Chinese loans to … [Read more...] about China spent $240B bailing out ‘Belt and Road’ countries, study shows
Jennifer Aniston to Adam Sandler before kissing scenes: ‘Oil up the beard’

Image: Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP LOS ANGELES — When it came to their kissing scenes in Netflix’s “Murder Mystery,” Jennifer Aniston had one requirement of co-star Adam Sandler. “I did have him learn to oil the beard up a little bit,” the actress said in a joint interview this week. “Conditioned.” Sandler said kissing his longtime friend on camera isn’t all that awkward, except when his wife Jackie and children are on set encouraging him a little too much. “The only awkward part is hearing my wife on the side going, ‘Harder! Harder! Kiss her harder! Deeper!” he joked. “They (Jackie and the kids) watched the kissing. They love it. They love Aniston, and they want her to have good things and they say, ‘Give her something nice.'” “That was awkward,” Aniston said. “Murder Mystery” follows a longtime … [Read more...] about Jennifer Aniston to Adam Sandler before kissing scenes: ‘Oil up the beard’

Arrival of COVID-19 bivalent vaccines ‘on hold’
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said that the arrival of donated COVID-19 bivalent vaccines is currently “on hold,” as the agreement with COVAX, the vaccine manufacturer, contains conditions that still need to be studied. According to DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, the said agreement for the donated vaccines is being studied by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) because of conditions it contains such as immunity from liability and requiring the country to have indemnification. “For now it is still being further studied by the OSG and the DOJ. Kailangan po maintindihan ng mga kababayan ‘yung pong clause na nakainclude dito po sa ating mga agreements, would require us to have indemnification unang una, pangalawa is the immunity from liability,” said Vergeire in a press forum. (For now, it is still being further studied by the OSG and the DOJ. The people need to understand that the clause … [Read more...] about Arrival of COVID-19 bivalent vaccines ‘on hold’
