Barcelona Femení Set Another Women’s World Record Attendance At Camp Nou
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin They said it could not be done again, but just three weeks after breaking the 23-year-old world record for an attendance at a women's soccer match at Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe, FC Barcelona Femení drew an even larger crowd of 91,648 to the same venue to once more create sporting history. The European champions once more put on an exhibition of soccer, again scoring five goals in the first leg of the UEFA EFA Women's Champions League semi-final against German league leaders VfL Wolfsburg. The new figure still falls short of two crowd figures at the unofficial 1971 Women's World Cup in Mexico when a reported 100,000 watched the Opening Game of the tournament which was surpassed by the estimated 110,000 who saw the final between hosts Mexico and Denmark, both games were played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. However, as the competition did not fall within the jurisdiction of soccer's world … [Read more...] about Barcelona Femení Set Another Women’s World Record Attendance At Camp Nou
World-Record Crowd Of 91,553 Treated To Women’s Champions League Spectacle At Camp Nou
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The 23-year-old official world-record attendance for a women's soccer match was broken in Barcelona last night as a crowd of 91,553 was recorded at Camp Nou during their UEFA Women's Champions League match against Real Madrid. The figure eclipses the mark of 90,185 set during the 1999 Women's World Cup final played at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Only matches at the unofficial 1971 Women's World Cup , which twice drew six-figure crowds of 100,000 for the Opening Match and 110,000 for the final, have ever attracted attendances for a women's sporting event in excess of tonight's at Camp Nou. That tournament was organized outside of the world governing body's (FIFA) jurisdiction by the Federation of Independent European Female Football (FIEFF). What is indisputable is that no women's club match has ever come close to this figure. Barcelona had played in front of the previous club record attendance of 60,739 away to Atlético de … [Read more...] about World-Record Crowd Of 91,553 Treated To Women’s Champions League Spectacle At Camp Nou

FC Barcelona’s Irene Paredes Hungry To Win First Women’s Champions League
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin On Saturday in Turin, the last two winners of the UEFA EFA Women's Champions League, FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais will face-off in this year's final. Most of the players already own a winner's medal in the competition but for Irene Paredes it is an opportunity to gain revenge on the team that denied her victory in 2017. Then playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Paredes played all 120 minutes in a goal-less final in Cardiff against Olympique Lyonnais. The match went to a penalty shoot-out which was eventually won by Lyon. Parades and PSG also went out in the 2020 Women's Champions League semi-final to their French rivals. Paredes finally overcame Lyon in the Champions League emerging victorious in last year's quarter-final only for PSG to lose the semi-final to FC Barcelona, who would go on to win their first European title in Lyon's absence by defeating Chelsea 4-0 in Gothenburg. Defining Athletic Success In The New ‘Transformation’ Era: A Challenge For Mid-Major Division I Schools
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With news emerging that the NCAA’s Transformation Committee’s work may have hit a roadblock, Division I athletics directors and presidents still need guidance in order to prepare for the fast approaching changes. Savvy leaders are tracking several developing issues, including the new Big Ten Conference media rights deal (which some have projected will double annual institutional payouts to $100 million or more). Many are also planning for an expansion of the College Football Playoff to 12 teams, which could be a huge financial windfall for those conferences (and independents) who are part of that collection. It can be overwhelming to track on all of these moving pieces, particularly if you are a Group of Five or other mid-major program. Ada Hegerberg Reveals Scoring First Goals After 22 Months Gave Her ‘Goosebumps’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There will never be another first. Whatever else happens in the development of women's soccer, Ada Stolsmo Hegerberg of Norway will forever be remembered as the first woman in history to win the sport's most-prized individual honor, the Ballon d'Or, in 2018. Last month, it was another first for Hegerberg: her first goal in 101 weeks, since she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in January 2020. Her emotional reaction betrayed everything that she had overcome in the intervening year and a half. She later added a second goal in a 6-1 victory for Olympique Lyonnais over their perennial rivals Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning French champions. Speaking to me last week, Hegerberg said: "I've just been focused ever since I came back. About doing things very simply, getting back into my rhythm. Obviously, playing against PSG is one of my favorite games to play. I love those games. I was ready mentally. I knew I was ready … [Read more...] about Ada Hegerberg Reveals Scoring First Goals After 22 Months Gave Her ‘Goosebumps’
