Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After years of intrigue and anticipation, and of course speedbumps that has been the norm for a long troubled sport in a goldmine of a location, Major League Cricket was spectacularly unveiled in Houston on Sunday. With a pool of overseas stars limited - due to international commitments and India's contracted players unable to play beyond their homegrown Indian Premier League - the MLC did well to recruit several well-known players still at their peak. Salary caps were reportedly around $1 million per team with top players set to receive similar remuneration per game to cashed-up start-up leagues in the UAE UAE and South Africa. Also drafted were a host of expat players, who are flying the flag for a pro cricket league hoped to finally fuel the rise of cricket in the world's biggest market. While born and bred players were perhaps predictably outnumbered, MLC is hoped to spark interest in the younger … [Read more...] about America’s New Major League Cricket Has A Footprint From Cashed-Up India

Adobe Analytics Shows Buy Now Pay Later Usage Is Higher Amid Economic Concerns
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The current economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures in non-discretionary spending categories are prompting consumers to delay purchase payments by leveraging buy now pay later options (BNPL). Categories that have shown increased demand in BNPL purchases include groceries and home furnishings. In the first two months of 2023, online groceries’ share of BNPL orders grew a staggering 40%, while home furnishings grew by 38%. “The rise of buy now pay later usage for groceries tells us that consumers are likely making bigger purchases online to take advantage of special promotions and stock up on staples, thus managing living expenses in more flexible ways,” explained Vivek Pandya, lead analyst, Adobe Digital Insights. “The strong online growth of home furnishing purchasing is expected to bolster buy now pay later adoption, given the higher ticket prices in this category.” In 2022, consumers spent over $126 billion on … [Read more...] about Adobe Analytics Shows Buy Now Pay Later Usage Is Higher Amid Economic Concerns
Who’s still buying real estate in the metaverse?
Higher mortgage rates have quashed the housing boom of the past few years—and on Tuesday, the National Association of Realtors said that in February, home prices were lower in a year-over-year comparison for the first time in almost 11 years. That’s the real world. Over in the metaverse, though, real estate is undergoing a different sort of struggle, as it’s tied so closely to the price of Ethereum. Average sales prices for parcels of virtual land have dropped from more than $11,000 to less than $2,000, according to WeMeta . But not all the news is bad. The market for virtual homes is currently valued at $1.4 billion , according to a separate report from Parcel, a marketplace for Web3 gaming. To put that in perspective, in 2021, virtual real estate sales measured at just $500 million, meaning last year saw 180% year-over-year growth. More than 62,000 unique digital wallets hold land, with some of those likely holding multiple properties. There is, of … [Read more...] about Who’s still buying real estate in the metaverse?
Retail Real Estate Development Looks To India
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Ajay is a Managing Director at Taurus Investment Holdings and leads the Boston-based global investor's India business . After higher holiday sales than expected in 2022, it would be tempting to imagine that all is well again in the retail and retail real estate industries, which were ravaged worldwide by two years of pandemic-related closures and restrictions. The truth is, however, far from rosy; retailers across the U.S. are, in fact seeing muted sales (registration required) as inflation makes shoppers apprehensive about opening their wallets. With a long-term glut of shopping center space and widespread pain among stalwart mall tenants, many malls across the country may close or be converted to other uses, including residential units and offices. The outlook for malls across Western Europe also remains cloudy. Data (registration required) from retail footfall tracking specialist Sensormatic shows that … [Read more...] about Retail Real Estate Development Looks To India

The real reason more women and people of color suffer from imposter syndrome
When you’re growing up, you progressively get more confident in your ability to do difficult things: read a harder book, play a tougher sport, or join the conversation at the grown-ups’ table. But anyone who’s been a teenager knows that learning and confidence curves are not linear—nor do they always run in parallel. In fact, for many people, the more you progress, the more you start to question your achievements. “Is it really because I’m talented? Or is it just luck, over-preparation, or even privilege?” somebody . I didn’t necessarily question whether I belonged, but I definitely felt intimidated by the atmosphere and the accomplishments of all of my classmates. It felt like everyone was always one step ahead of me, which led to a lot of self-questioning at night while living away from home at the age of 15. When I went to Yale, I encountered a variation on this theme. I always had this thought that people perceived me as a basketball player first and a student … [Read more...] about The real reason more women and people of color suffer from imposter syndrome
First Republic slumps after report of potential government backing in deal
A First Republic Bank branch is pictured in Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York, U.S., March 13, 2023. REUTERS/Mike Segar/File photo Shares of First Republic Bank tumbled 14 percent in extended trade on Tuesday following a report that a potential deal for the troubled bank could rely on government backing to encourage buyers. The steep drop partially reversed the nearly 30 percent rally in the stock during regular trade. The government could play a role in taking out assets that have eroded First Republic’s balance sheet, Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge of discussions between Wall Street CEOs and U.S. officials. In addition, First Republic has tapped investment bank Lazard Ltd to help it explore strategic options, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. First Republic declined to comment about the reports by Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal. UK inflation surprise pressures Bank of England to raise rates again
People shop to buy fruits and vegetables at a stall in Lewisham Market, south east London, Britain, March 9, 2023. REUTERS/Hannah McKay LONDON – British inflation unexpectedly rose to 10.4 percent in February, pushed up by higher food and drink prices in pubs and restaurants, according to official data which is likely to prompt the Bank of England to raise interest rates on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast that the annual consumer price inflation rate would drop to 9.9 percent in February from January’s 10.1 percent and move further away from October’s 41-year high of 11.1 percent. The figures – including increases in underlying inflation measures that the BoE closely monitors – are likely to bolster the concerns of those BoE policymakers who worry that inflation will be slow to fall, even after 10 straight rate hikes. Investors had been split on whether the central bank would pause that run after the recent upheaval in the global banking sector. But … [Read more...] about UK inflation surprise pressures Bank of England to raise rates again
