China stocks approach bull market as investors catch up on gains
- A + A (June 27): Chinese stocks extended gains into a fifth week, bringing them close to a bull market, as investors turned increasingly upbeat amid eased pandemic curbs in Shanghai. Tech shares also rallied in Hong Kong to the highest in nearly four months. The recent rebound in Chinese equities, which started in April while stocks elsewhere were still selling off, is gaining momentum thanks to an improving economic outlook as well as persistent monetary and fiscal stimulus. President Xi Jinping's planned visit to Hong Kong is boosting stocks that would benefit from easing pandemic restrictions such as Macau casinos. The benchmark CSI 300 Index gained 1.1%, adding 4% in three sessions, led by consumer shares, as Shanghai's leader declared victory in defending the financial hub against Covid-19 and will this week allow residents to dine in restaurants in some areas deemed lower risk. Feature: Chinese language interpreters facilitate Zimbabwe-China mutual understanding
by Tafara Mugwara HWANGE, Zimbabwe, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Speaking through a walkie-talkie, Panashe Shayawabaya - a Chinese language interpreter - delivered instructions to a local employee from a Chinese supervisor at a coal mining site. Inside an open cast pit nearby, deafening sounds from excavators and dump trucks reverberated throughout the pit as the machines extracted and hauled chunks of rock from the earth to expose the coal hidden underneath. Shayawabaya is one of a few Chinese-speaking Zimbabweans who are playing a critical role in facilitating Zimbabwe-China mutual understanding through their Chinese language skills. "I spent about eight years in China, and during my course of that time in China, I learned a lot of Chinese culture, Chinese history, in terms of Chinese food, likes and dislikes," Shayawabaya told Xinhua. Zimbabwe is witnessing an influx of Chinese investments. What to Do With All That Inventory You Can’t Sell
Last week, I wrote about how to avoid ending up with inventory you cannot sell . But let's say that's exactly what you have: A garage stacked with boxes of product you thought consumers needed, but have had trouble getting off your hands. In my experience, this is not uncommon. For more than 15 years now, I've been hearing a version of the story below. You have this great idea for a new product you believe everyone wants. So you file a patent application, which, after it issues and all is said and done, ends up costing you about $15,000. You work with a manufacturer overseas to produce the minimum amount required for an order, which runs you between $20,000 and $50,000. You pay a professional to help you set up your website and begin selling on Amazon, which you perceive to be a low-cost course of action. All in all, by the time you're in business, you've made a major financial investment. But without the marketing to back it up, the reality is, finding your … [Read more...] about What to Do With All That Inventory You Can’t Sell

Elon Musk And The Super Alluring Dream For A ‘Super App’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin F or Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter to work out as he’d like, Musk must find some way to supersize the company. Its business is long-undersized compared to the platform’s presence in culture and politics. As a model, Musk has set at least some sights on the original so-called super app, WeChat, which is owned by China-based Tencent. In Musk’s first town hall meeting with Twitter employees last week, he directly mentioned WeChat, indicating that building something like it would further his broader goal of nearly quintupling Twitter’s user base to a billion people. “There’s no WeChat equivalent out of China,” he said at the meeting. “There’s a real opportunity to create that.” Much of what Musk says can seem outlandish.
