What’s New In Additive Manufacturing?

May 20, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Bill King, PhD, Co-founder and Chief Scientist at Fast Radius . Over the past decade, 3-D printing has transformed from a hobbyist or prototyping tool into an industrial-grade production process, referred to as additive manufacturing. Today, additively manufactured parts are everywhere—from visually appealing consumer goods to the inner workings of automobiles and jet engines. Yet, many engineers and product designers who work closely with other manufacturing methods are still learning about additive technologies and how to sort out today’s very real opportunities from yesterday’s significant limitations. Until recently, many additive manufacturing technologies couldn't produce end-use parts. But now, the additive manufacturing industry has developed new materials, techniques and technologies to become a true competitor to more traditional manufacturing processes like injection molding and CNC machining. Still, … [Read more...] about What’s New In Additive Manufacturing?

Facebook Upside Appears Limited Despite Strong Quarter

September 12, 2020 by www.investopedia.com

Facebook, Inc. ( FB ) stock rallied to a three-month high on Thursday after the company beat third quarter profit and revenue estimates. However, it was a mixed session because the social media giant gapped up and posted the day's high a few minutes after the opening bell before pulling back throughout the day and closing near the intraday low. The reversal highlighted hidden selling pressure while warning new investors that gains may be limited in coming weeks. Technical and political headwinds are likely to drive price action well into 2020, with massive overhead supply around $200 still in place after July 2018's 41-point sell gap and down day. The stock posted the highest selling volume in the past six years in that session, with shareholders hitting the sidelines after the company warned that privacy issues following the Cambridge Analytica scandal were taking a toll on user interaction. That loss of trust has spiraled into a series of international accusations and … [Read more...] about Facebook Upside Appears Limited Despite Strong Quarter

Seniors are pushing back against ageism on TikTok

May 19, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

TikTok has a reputation for being the playground of young people – and for good reason. However, an increasing number of seniors are giving the Chinese social network a go, often encouraged by their children and grandchildren. And the trend is offering old age a new image. Technophobic, frail, cantankerous, senile... Age-related stereotypes are hard to eradicate. They can be particularly detrimental to women, for whom the fact of aging and seeing their body change remains a source of concern. But a surprising boost could come via TikTok and could help them see things differently, according to a study recently published in the journal The Gerontologist . Professor Reuben Ng and Nicole Indran found that older people are increasingly using TikTok, the preferred app of the younger generations. They analysed 1,382 videos posted by users of the social network aged 60 or older, with between 100,000 and 5.3 million followers. The seniors in the video all talk freely about their age in … [Read more...] about Seniors are pushing back against ageism on TikTok

At every level of the company, we acknowledge that insights from data are critical to our success in making smarter decisions every day. Although there is still work to be done, technology is making analytics more automatic and natural for everyone by progressing from IT-led reporting to standalone dashboards and now to infused analytics everywhere so that all knowledge workers have access to the personalized insights they need at the exact point they want to take action. Until now, however, we have only considered the benefits of analytics for ourselves. Our focus has been on extracting insights from data to improve internal business processes and help our teams make smarter decisions. The Power Of Machine Learning At The Edge

May 20, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin President and CEO at Volt Active Data, Inc . The future is at the edge. No matter which industry report you put your faith in, the edge computing market is poised to blow up. User expectations, IoT proliferation and 5G latency are converging to test the limits of physics. 5G squeezes the latency possibilities from 4G’s 200 milliseconds to single-digit milliseconds. This squeeze is 5G’s most exciting promise and the single-most-important reason to move computing workloads as close to the action as possible: onto edge sensors and devices or in edge data centers. Consider a healthcare IoT system. It collects patients’ vital data through sensors, analyzes it to spot anomalies, uses machine learning algorithms to make inferences and triggers a notification so caregivers can take appropriate actions in a timely manner. To be useful, all this has to happen in real time (i.e., within single-digit milliseconds). But … [Read more...] about The Power Of Machine Learning At The Edge

There are 17 SDGs. Each acknowledges that action in one area will affect outcomes in others . For example, "ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection." Social Media Advice From The Trenches

May 20, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Graydon McKee is Senior Director for Cybersecurity Engineering at VISA . Over the last several years, I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to mentor several individuals. I've been humbled by the experience. Part of the advice I typically give is to be especially careful when it comes to social media. One of my mentees recently needed a refresher on how to handle negativity aimed at some of the comments she made. Here is a summary of what I shared: There are at least two sides to every issue, and as such, anyone who posts on social media will eventually run into what is typically referred to as a troll. These are individuals who lash out in an aggressive way in response to something they disagree with. Some see it as their responsibility to "right wrongs" like some sort of internet vigilante. Some just like to bully everyone else with their opinion. Others enjoy sowing hate and discord no matter what … [Read more...] about Social Media Advice From The Trenches
