August 17, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Alison Brie added another impressive notch to her writing belt with the film Spin Me Round , screening at the Cinequest Film Festival Wednesday evening (September 17) at 7:15 p.m. PT at the Hammer Theatre Centre in San Jose, California. Spin Me Round will be in theaters, On Demand, and streaming on AMC+ August 19th. The movie marks the third feature film writing credit for Brie, who plays “Amber” in addition to co-writing the movie about a woman who wins an all-expenses-paid trip to her company's facility outside of Florence and the chance to meet the restaurant chain's rich, charismatic owner. As Alison has impressed with her acting in major projects like Community , Glow , and Mad Men over the years, as well as 70-plus other works, I found myself zeroing in on the story, character development, and jokes in Spin Me Round — which all flowed beautifully like an Italian red — that she helped create. U.K. Inflation Hits 40-Year High Of 10% As It Bucks G7 Trend—And It’s Expected To Get Worse

August 17, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Consumer price inflation in the U.K. soared past 10% in July—the highest it has been in 40 years—the U.K.’s statistics office reported on Wednesday, a figure the nation’s central bank expects will rise further later this year and deepen economic pain for households. Key Facts According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the U.K.’s consumer prices index (CPI) rose 10.1% in the year to July 2022, up from 9.4% in June, which is the highest it has been since the current statistical model went into effect in 1997. Estimates by the ONS suggest the last time the country’s CPI rate was higher was back in 1982. Rising costs of energy and fuel remain the largest contributor to the rise in the annual inflation rate according to the report as Europe continues to reel from Russia’s reduction in energy supply to the continent. The ONS also noted that rising food prices were the biggest factor … [Read more...] about U.K. Inflation Hits 40-Year High Of 10% As It Bucks G7 Trend—And It’s Expected To Get Worse

How To Pay for and Access a Legal Abortion

August 17, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

In Dobbs v. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the half-century-old precedent that guaranteed federal abortion protections. After the controversial June decision, the matter was kicked back to the states, leading to a tangle of laws. It’s an ever-evolving landscape. Cost varies. Abortions are less expensive in the first trimester than later in the pregnancy. According to Planned Parenthood, the procedure can cost up to $750 in the first trimester, though it’s often less, and that amount climbs up to $1,500 later in the pregnancy. According to the latest available data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Abortion Surveillance System, the vast majority of abortions happen in the first trimester, with 92.7% occurring at or before 13 weeks of gestation, which is the beginning of the second trimester. However, as discussed below, advocates say that sending the matter to the states has increased costs in some circumstances, potentially putting … [Read more...] about How To Pay for and Access a Legal Abortion

Can You Have a Pension and a 401(k)?

August 18, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

You can have a pension and still contribute to a 401(k)—and an IRA—to take charge of your retirement. If you have a defined benefit pension plan at work, you have nothing to worry about, right? Maybe not. While pensions used to be a staple ingredient in the recipe of retirement planning, fewer companies today offer them. What's more, the benefits aren't as reliable as they used to be . Now is a good time to start thinking about where your pension fits into your overall plan for retirement. It’s dangerous to rely on any pension—even a generous one—to cover all your retirement needs. Key Takeaways A pension provides a fixed monthly benefit upon retirement for the rest of your life. 401(k)s and IRAs provide income in retirement, too. But the amount depends on how much you contribute and how well your investments perform. A good retirement strategy is to contribute to a variety of retirement investments, including 401(k)s and IRAs—even if you already have a pension. … [Read more...] about Can You Have a Pension and a 401(k)?

What to Expect for the Markets in February

July 19, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

The January effect was in full effect for the first month of 2019. After a punishing December, stocks rebounded in the first few weeks of January as signs of progress in the U.S.-China trade war appeared, the Federal Reserve adopted a more dovish tone on interest rates, and earnings season revealed that some companies and sectors have more-positive outlooks than expected. It was a month to remember: The S&P 500, up 7.8%, had its best January performance since 1987, and its biggest monthly gain since October 2015. The DJIA rose 7.17% in January, its largest one-month rise since 2015 and biggest January gain in 30 years. Crude oil prices had their best month on record, surging more than 19% after three straight months of losses. Output cuts and the chaos in Venezuela, had a lot to do with that performance. The U.S. added 304,000 jobs in January, blowing out expectations despite the shutdown. While stocks have rebounded, notably for U.S. companies and indexes, risks … [Read more...] about What to Expect for the Markets in February

Going Back to School with Stock Market Fundamentals

August 15, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

Make that four weeks in a row of gains for the U.S. stock market, as the rally has become undeniable. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq both climbed more than 3% last week, with the the Dow up 2.9%. The S&P 500 has now climbed 15% from its lows in mid-June, while the Nasdaq has clawed back 20% since then. That could technically be described as a new bull market for the index. A 20% retracement from a recent low fits the bill—or the bull—but there are a lot of opinions about that. But we can't deny the strength of the rally, especially when we dig into the charts. The average stock in the Nasdaq Composite index is up 34% from its lows. Remember, just a few months ago, we were talking about the average Nasdaq stock being down 50% from its highs. The pendulum has swung back in a big way. Across the market, the breadth thrust has been pretty impressive. And no, that's not a swimming stroke.
