Starry, a Boston technology company, launched a 5G broadband service in Denver late last month, one it promises will bring, for the dollar spent, much faster and more reliable broadband services to thousands of people living in apartments and condos. “There is so little choice of internet-only service out there,” said Alex Moulle-Berteaux, the company’s chief operating officer. “Many of our subscribers are cord cutters.” Starry is targeting those frustrated with the slower and sometimes spotty DSL service from CenturyLink and the faster, but more expensive and entangled packages from Xfinity. It is bringing a third option to the table, 5G wireless . For those in reach of the signal, the network provides a minimum speed of 200 Megabits per second (Mbps), up and down, for a flat $50 a month, without caps on data usage, no equipment charges and no long-term contracts. Moulle-Berteaux said the company has speeds that are five times as fast. Starry represents a “fixed” use … [Read more...] about 5G is coming to Denver, and it’s not just for smartphones: It could mean super-fast internet at home, too

Behind The Scenes: OKC Thunder Rookie Jalen Williams’ Ascension Into Draft Lottery
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “We draft people first and players second,” said Thunder GM Sam Presti last summer. When Santa Clara guard Jalen Williams was taken No. 12 overall in Thursday night’s draft, it was surprising to some. However, when you dig deeper into his game and personal story it makes complete sense. A late bloomer, Williams wasn’t on many NBA teams’ radars as a top pick until after his final college season. At the Thunder’s rookie introductory press conference on Saturday, Presti even admitted that the team didn’t truly consider Williams in the lottery until later in the draft process. “The truth on Jalen is our eyes really opened later to him in this process,” Presti said. “I wish I could tell you that last year at Santa Clara I could say we knew this guy was a lottery pick. That wasn’t the case.” It took a spectacular pre-draft process on and off the court to spark what ended up being a perfect scenario for both parties. … [Read more...] about Behind The Scenes: OKC Thunder Rookie Jalen Williams’ Ascension Into Draft Lottery
PBA: Mikey Williams shoots streaking TNT past Phoenix
Mikey Williams. PBA IMAGES ANTIPOLO CITY — TNT used a strong finishing kick to whip Phoenix Super LPG, 87-72, in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday night at Ynares Center here. Mikey Williams unloaded 11 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to help the Tropang Giga rise to 5-2 and gain steam in their title-retention bid. “We knew they’d come out very very strong especially after their last game,” coach Chot Reyes said of the Fuel Masters, who were sent to their fourth loss in six outings. “We caught a break when (Jason) Perkins didn’t play which negated Troy Rosario not being able to play. But in the end, I think it’s our defense that wore hem down … and if you give Mikey opportunities, he will make those shots,” he went on. Williams added six rebounds and seven assists to his name while also accounting for two steals. Roger Pogoy chipped in 20 more in the scoring effort which extended TNT’s win streak to three. Rosario has been shelved temporarily due an assortment … [Read more...] about PBA: Mikey Williams shoots streaking TNT past Phoenix
Striking Railway Workers Should Cease Using Disabled Passengers As A Bargaining Chip
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Over the past seven days, striking railway workers have plunged much of Britain’s rail network into chaos causing misery for passengers in a dispute over pay and guarantees around future redundancies. Following walkouts undertaken by members of the National Union of Rail Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) on June 21 and 23, which paralyzed much of the country’s rail infrastructure, yesterday saw the third day of strikes in a week — with more expected to arrive over the course of the summer. The recent spate of railway strikes has been described as the largest of its kind in three decades. One of the arguments against staff cutbacks routinely trotted out by the likes of General Secretary of the RMT Mick Lynch is that any move towards driver-only trains with no guard on board will have a deleterious impact on disabled passengers as there will be nobody available to provide assistance. While there is … [Read more...] about Striking Railway Workers Should Cease Using Disabled Passengers As A Bargaining Chip

The rich-poor divide on clean power is getting wider
Representative Image To look at the way richer countries are spending money on the energy transition, you might think we’re within reach of bringing Climate Change under control. Investment in clean energy has only accelerated in the years since COVID-19 struck. In the second half of the last decade, it grew at a 2 percent annual rate. Since 2020, that’s risen to 12 percent a year. This year, it will hit $1.4 trillion, the International Energy Agency wrote in its annual investment report on June 22, putting green power comprehensively ahead of the roughly $1 trillion that’s being spent on fossil fuels. If you assume those trends will continue, it looks even more promising. Just continuing to inflate existing spending at current growth rates would imply that advanced economies and China spend in the region of $650 billion a year on clean power over the remainder of this decade, the IEA wrote — within sight of the $850 billion-odd that’s needed to put the world on track to … [Read more...] about The rich-poor divide on clean power is getting wider

In a joint statement, the Opposition bloc also appealed to the Centre-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies to extend support to Sinha, in order to get him elected unopposed. "Ideally, a consensus candidate of the government and the Opposition should be elected for the highest office of the Republic. However, the initiative … [Read more...] about Opposition parties unite to pick Yashwant Sinha as presidential nominee
