- A + A (Aug 18): Apple Inc is aiming to hold a launch event on Sept 7 to unveil the iPhone 14 line, according to people with knowledge of the matter, rolling out the latest version of a product that generates more than half its sales. The new iPhones will kick off a busy fall product season, which will also include multiple new Macs, low-end and high-end iPads, and three Apple Watch models. Apple is updating its flagship product at a precarious time for the industry. Smartphone sales have begun to flag as consumers cope with inflation and a shaky economy. But Apple appears to be faring better than its peers: The iPhone sold well last quarter, and the company has signaled to suppliers that it doesn’t foresee a dropoff in demand. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant typically announces other products alongside the iPhone, including the latest Apple Watches. The company usually releases the new iPhone in stores about a week and a half after it’s unveiled, and … [Read more...] about Apple targets Sept 7 for iPhone 14 launch in flurry of new devices

Historic American Muscle Car Will Be Fully Electric By 2024
Dodge’s popular muscle cars, the two-door Challenger and four-door Charger, will be discontinued in 2023 and replaced in 2024 by a fully electric model, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. Dodge announced two new electric vehicles at the Dodge Speed Week event in Pontiac, Michigan, this week, according to a press release by Dodge parent company Stellantis. The first was the Dodge Hornet, a Compact Utility Vehicle that offered both a plug-in hybrid and traditional gas engine model, and the second was the battery-powered muscle car, the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, named in honor of the Charger Daytona, the first car to break 200 mph on a NASCAR track. “The [Concept] exists because performance made us do it,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Chief Executive Officer in a press release. “Dodge is about muscle, attitude and performance, and the brand carries that chip on its shoulder and into the [electric vehicle] segment through a concept loaded with patents, innovations, and … [Read more...] about Historic American Muscle Car Will Be Fully Electric By 2024
How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
Every week, the same headline repeats: DTC upstart heads to retail. You can now find Magic Spoon at Target, Glossier at Sephora, and Away at Amazon, and the list goes on. This month, Yumi, the company I co-founded, also threw our proverbial hat into the brick-and-mortar ring, with a full nationwide launch at Target and nearly 2,000 stores. So, yes, the "era of DTC" as we know it is dead . But I would argue that the DTC era was an important pit stop to the inevitable omnichannel future. In the initial version of our company pitch deck, we created a future road map inspired by Walt Disney's famous Synergy Map in 1957, when he envisioned Disney's 60-year road map in a napkin sketch. He doesn't explicitly name Disney+, its big gambit in connected TV, or the purchase of Pixar, but all the breadcrumbs are there for the sprawling online and offline empire we know today. Our Disney map slide showed Yumi's later-stage selling channels would include real-life festivals for … [Read more...] about How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
Marvel’s Avengers’ Next Hero Is Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, Plus Cloning Lab’s Coming
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Today, Crystal Dynamics will announce a number of upcoming additions to Marvel’s Avengers, the live service superhero game that is very much still producing updates for a playerbase that might be more robust than you’re thinking. I got to speak with Avengers’ Lead Designer Brian Waggoner, who revealed that even with there being some debate about whether subscription services are helping or hurting the prospects of third party games, Marvel’s Avengers has really benefitted from them specifically. Waggoner says that the Avengers’ playerbase has been boosted now that it is available for “free” as part of both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus’s recently revamped tiers. It’s onboarded a lot of players, and no doubt those players are buying a lot of the MCU skins the game has been putting out for a year plus now. “Incredibly significant growth,” Waggoner said. “Those subscription plans have been huge for us, … [Read more...] about Marvel’s Avengers’ Next Hero Is Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, Plus Cloning Lab’s Coming

Datuk Seri Najib Razak's newly appointed lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik - A + A PUTRAJAYA (Aug 18): At the tail-end of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s final SRC International Sdn Bhd appeal hearing on Thursday, the former premier’s newly appointed lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik reversed his position on filing fresh submissions. "I will not file the submissions. That is my position," he told the Federal Court. Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat — who leads the five-member quorum in the appeal hearing — noted that Hisyam was contradicting what he had said a few hours earlier when the court reconvened following lunch. She reminded Hisyam that he had informed the court that the defence was planning to file fresh submissions and warned him: “If you choose not to participate then that is your position. The court will not repeat itself.” Hisyam clarified that his position is that he would only file fresh submissions if the defence is provided with an … [Read more...] about Najib’s new lawyer changes mind on filing fresh submissions
The New ‘R and D’–and Why No Company Can Do Without It
Traditionally, business leaders have been known to spend small fortunes on research and development (R&D) , attempting to create the next great "hero" product that will put them over the top. A large part of the process consists of costly trials and tests and time-consuming focus groups--all in the name of R&D. In some cases, the uber-expensive patent process can drain most of your budget on just trying to protect your intellectual property. It's a lot of time and energy put into an effort even before the product goes to market, especially since there is no guarantee of a return. Traditional R&D often can't be avoided, but wouldn't it make sense to invest similar resources in something that already generates sales? For instance, a well-designed retail display can be one of the most effective marketing tools in a company's arsenal--but the key is investing significantly in front-end design to effectively showcase the brand and engage with customers. In other … [Read more...] about The New ‘R and D’–and Why No Company Can Do Without It

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Despite falling mortgage rates providing some relief to potential home buyers, mortgage applications fell to the lowest level since the turn of the century last week—providing fresh evidence that the housing market downturn may have room to run as some experts worry about how the collapse will damage the broader economy. Key Facts Mortgage applications fell 2.3% from one week earlier, according to the latest data from the Mortgage Bankers Association, pushing overall applications to the lowest level since 2000 even as rates on the popular 30-year fixed mortgage slipped to a two-month low of less than 5.5%.
