Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Diablo 4 beta launches today for those who have pre-ordered the game, or landed a code some other way. It’s a pretty hefty intro to the game with an entire act, a world boss and several classes unlocked. And if you’re like me, and are planning to go hard when the main game is released, you probably have one central question: Does Diablo 4 beta progress carry over into the main game? The answer is overwhelmingly no, with a few exceptions. So first off, your progress will carry over between the two betas, the current, pre-order beta and the open beta at the end of the month. But after that, nearly everything is being wiped. Your loot, your story progress, your levels on all your beta characters. All of that is gone. The idea here is probably some combination of not giving some players a head start at launch, given that you could take a bunch of classes to 20 and start farming up loot. But more than that, … [Read more...] about Will ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Progress Carry Over To The Full Game?

How To Play The ‘Diablo IV’ Beta Early
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Diablo IV beta kicks off this weekend, but not everyone can join the fray, slaughtering demons and exploring the first section of Blizzard’s highly-anticipated upcoming action-RPG. The two-weekend beta is split into two halves. Part 1 is Early Access only, while the second weekend opens up to everybody. You can see the start-times and everything else you need to know about the beta weekends right here. The easiest way for fans of Diablo to play in the Early Access beta is to pre-order the game on PC, Xbox or PlayStation. This gets you an Early Access beta code and you’re off to the races. However, if you don’t want to pre-order but still want in, there are other ways. One way is a bit unorthodox: Order a sandwich from KFC . Not just any sandwich, mind you, but one that has the Diablo Early Access banner (which is super obvious when you get to the KFC website or app). It looks like this: See how the … [Read more...] about How To Play The ‘Diablo IV’ Beta Early
Can ‘Diablo 4’ Beat Out ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ For The Biggest Game Of 2023?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We are now a day away from Diablo 4’s beta launch , our first real, non-press preview of the game that includes a substantial amount of content (if you’ve pre-ordered, of course, as the open beta is later). I previously said that I thought that Diablo 4 could end up being the biggest game of 2023 in terms of sales, though that was before I saw just how strong Hogwarts Legacy ended up being. Now, I’m not so sure. Both Diablo 4 and Hogwarts Legacy have something in common, and no, not magic. Rather, both games in many ways seem/seemed too good to be true. I am deeply skeptical of AAA games overpromising and underdelivering, and Hogwarts Legacy in particular looked like a Harry Potter fans’ dream game with a sprawling world, huge array of spells and missions and systems that felt like the game people have wanted for two decades since the books came out. I was doubtful it would actually deliver, given the expectations … [Read more...] about Can ‘Diablo 4’ Beat Out ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ For The Biggest Game Of 2023?
The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Is Basically Unplayable Thanks To Endless Login Queues
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Welcome to Diablo IV’s Early Access beta weekend! So far, I have to say I’m really enjoying the game—or at least I assume I would be if I could ever login and actually play it. So far, all I’ve been able to do is load it up and stare at the login queue. On my latest attempt I was greeted by the above message: 128 minutes left before I could join. This is, to put it mildly, totally ridiculous and absolutely unacceptable on Blizzard’s part. Most players who are trying to play Diablo IV this weekend are doing so as part of the game’s pre-order bonus. The promise Activision-Blizzard made was simple: Pre-order the game and you get an extra weekend of beta play-time before the open beta the following weekend. MORE FROM FORBES Here's The Exact Time The 'Diablo IV' Beta Starts And Everything You Need To Know By Erik Kain The other way to get in early is via this KFC collaboration, which you also have to … [Read more...] about The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Is Basically Unplayable Thanks To Endless Login Queues
The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Is Fantastic, When You Can Actually Play It
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin At long last, the beta for Diablo 4 has arrived, and while it requires a pre-order (or KFC chicken sandwich) to access this first weekend, the game has enough people clogging the servers to make its initial launch here a sadly familiar sort of disaster. The good news is that when you can play the Diablo 4 beta, it absolutely lives up to expectations in its early hours in terms of gameplay, aesthetics and shockingly, even storytelling, rising above past installments. The bad news is that at least in some regions (like mine), you are allowed maybe 30-60 minutes of gameplay for every 60-120 minutes of re-login queue time. It was an endless pattern all day yesterday, I’d get in, play for a while, then get booted (usually in the middle of a dungeon with no checkpoints). The game would freeze up, I’d quit and log back in only to find an hour or two of wait time ahead of me. It’s maddening for a game I just want to play by … [Read more...] about The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Is Fantastic, When You Can Actually Play It
So, What Was Bad About The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While I am hoping to see the Diablo 4 beta extended at least another day due to its login issues, I have done about everything you can do in it on one character. I’ve finished the story, maxed at level 25, attempted (and failed) to kill a world boss. And I like it a lot, I really do. But do some aspects need work? Yeah, sure. And no, I don’t just mean login queues and disconnects, deeply annoying aspects of any live game launch, but something Diablo 4 especially doesn’t need after Diablo 3’s launch. That’s a bit obvious, however, so let’s dig a little deeper. Other Tech Issues – One thing everyone noticed immediately on PC was that for whatever reason, Diablo 4 is a memory hog. There seems to be some sort of bad memory leak issue in certain instances that can really become problematic in time, if not kill the game outright. On top of that, even without running out of memory completely, there was a fair bit of … [Read more...] about So, What Was Bad About The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta?
Diablo 4: Blizzard Says ‘Beta’ Has Become A ‘Twisted Word’ And I’m Calling Shenanigans
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Early Access Beta weekend for Diablo IV ended yesterday and unfortunately, Blizzard chose not to extend it by a day despite numerous login and connectivity issues making it basically unplayable for most of Friday —or about a third of the entire beta experience. Blizzard responded to these issues in an interview at Eurogamer with the game’s general manager, Rod Fergusson. Eurogamer asked: “Did you have a metric for success for this weekend, something in particular that you were looking at? And if you did have one, did you meet it?” Fergusson’s response [bold sections I’ve highlighted]: Yeah. Part of it is the number of players. "Beta" has been a twisted word that has become "marketing beta", which means demo, and for us this was a true beta because we wanted to be able to test that load and what does it mean to get a lot of players in? And Friday was a little bumpy because of that, but the way that we … [Read more...] about Diablo 4: Blizzard Says ‘Beta’ Has Become A ‘Twisted Word’ And I’m Calling Shenanigans
The Best Part Of The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Was A Real Surprise
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Diablo 4 pre-order beta has come and gone, and now everyone is gearing up for the open beta which arrives just a few days from now. Then it’s time for the full launch of the game in June, which does not seem headed for a delay, against all odds. While monster slaying feels good as ever and environment design is Diablo 2-level top notch, there was one aspect of the Diablo 4 beta that felt far better than I was expecting, and better than anything out of the past three games as well. The story. I did not expect to be as hooked as I was on the central story of Diablo 4 until I played this beta. The intro has two major cutscenes, one that opens the game and summons Lilith, Daughter of Hatred, and a second that shows her corrupting power. While both were good, the second one was when things really turned the corner for me, as Lilith appears to a local church and inspires its patrons to beat their own priest to … [Read more...] about The Best Part Of The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta Was A Real Surprise
I Am Scared Of ‘Diablo 4’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The first Diablo 4 beta is over and the second is about to start in this weekend . This is ahead of a June release that does not appear to be getting pushed back, despite problems and Blizzard and the general tradition of AAA games getting delayed a million times. I am kind of dreading its arrival. Why? Because based on what I’ve seen, and now what I’ve played, I’m feeling an old itch. The looter itch that caused me to sink thousands upon thousands of hours into Diablo 2 and 3, often neglecting my real life to do so. And now here, two decades after Diablo 2 and one decade after Diablo 3, I’m in a different phase of life with more at stake. I can’t let myself get fully consumed by this series again. Video game addiction is real, and it ain’t good. Playing games for a living like I do, it can be hard to differentiate between simply playing a lot of games and playing specific games obsessively. I can say with certainty … [Read more...] about I Am Scared Of ‘Diablo 4’
My Least Favorite Part Of The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I have an unfortunate confession to make: Diablo 4 will be my very first Diablo game. Yes, it’s true. Somehow, after all these years, I’ve managed to outright avoid Blizzard’s popular ode-to- Gauntlet , though it wasn’t exactly intentional. I think I may have even tried the PlayStation port of the original Diablo for about ten minutes back in 1998, but it didn’t grab my attention in any meaningful way. Maybe my error was playing a PC-born masterpiece on an aging 32-bit console. That said, out of sheer curiosity, I decided to dabble in the Diablo 4 early beta this past weekend, and much to my surprise, I found it to be fantastically fun. And no, it wasn’t because I encountered a player with the username ‘yomama’ within the first 30 minutes of gameplay. On the other hand, I can’t exactly rule it out. Mentally, I’m still in middle school. What can I say. The real win? I didn’t have to buy food at KFC to … [Read more...] about My Least Favorite Part Of The ‘Diablo 4’ Beta
