In 2015, pot began to grow up. With legalization elections anticipated next November for between 5 and 10 states, companies are thinking about how to attract new customers, especially older and female ones. It’s too early to know for sure just how well their efforts are working, but they have released products that seem more informed by attractive, minimalist design than by the drug’s more familiar seedy image. Call it the sex-toy strategy. advertisement advertisement With that in mind, here are some gift ideas for the grown-up stoner in your life: Leisure & Travel Colorado-based Mary’s Nutritionals sells transdermal patches containing a chemical found in hemp and marijuana, called cannabidiol (CBD) which fans believe have medicinal properties. We Will Remember 2015 As The Year The Robot Revolution Began
Robots in movies are usually clever, cute, and friendly. But for decades, real-life robots have been basically awkward, clumsy, and really not-so-smart hunks of metal. That’s drastically changed in the last two to three years, as both robot hardware and AI software have improved by leaps and bounds. This year, we’ve seen robots do all kinds of things that were previously the realm of sci-fi. advertisement advertisement Some are assisting us mere humans at all kinds of mundane tasks, such as making pancakes, folding laundry, forming new habits, and finding beer pong buddies. New tech made it easier to manage farms remotely, and a Japanese company designed an indoor farm entirely run by robots. Elon Musk’s little brother planned hundreds of urban vegetable gardens, and L.A. passed a law allowing residents to plant free gardens on city land. Since meat is one of the biggest causes of climate change, 2015 also saw a proliferation of meat alternatives. The lab-grown hamburger got a whole lot cheaper. Designers offered bugs for dinner. A startup tried to market seaweed that tastes … [Read more...] about We Need To Get Ready To Feed 2 Billion More People: 2015 In Food
These new Coke and Bud packages ditch plastic six-pack rings for cardboard carriers
The plastic six-pack ring, once ubiquitous on packs of beer and soda, may not necessarily exist much longer. The latest alternative is the KeelClip, a design that attaches a paper lid to the top of the cans, with a hidden flap shaped like the keel on a boat to keep the cans stable. Coca-Cola and AB InBev will begin rolling it out in Europe next year. advertisement It’s one of several ways to avoid plastic rings, including a biodegradable ring that can break down if it reaches the ocean and a minimalist design from Carlsberg that attaches cans with tiny dots of glue. Graphic Packaging International, the company that designed the KeelClip, started working on alternatives to plastic rings 25 years ago. But it’s only in the last couple of years, as consumer sentiment against plastic has grown and countries have started to ban single-use plastic, that beverage companies have started to make the shift. “I think they’re certainly recognizing that both on the … [Read more...] about These new Coke and Bud packages ditch plastic six-pack rings for cardboard carriers
