Authorities arrested a man Wednesday whom federal prosecutors accuse of running a US$45mil (RM198mil) scam that netted him 39 Teslas and allegedly included false claims that a billionaire electric car company founder — likely Tesla CEO Elon Musk — was involved in the investment scheme. In a federal grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday, Neil Suresh Chandran, 50, is alleged to have defrauded more than 10,000 victims since June 2018 by claiming that at least one of his five cryptocurrency and virtual-reality companies “was about to be purchased by a consortium of wealthy buyers and thereby yield his investors extremely high returns.” The indictment cites an alleged email from Chandran claiming an US$88,000 (RM388,080) investment would deliver a US$2 trillion (RM8.82 trillion) return. The alleged fraud seemingly involved claims about Musk, whom the indictment describes as “Billionaire 2” and “founder and CEO of an electric car company,” and also apparently about Amazon executive … [Read more...] about Man accused of buying 39 Teslas via US$45 million scam with apparent false ties to Elon Musk

Here Are The Billionaires With The Largest Twitter Following
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Elon Musk has gained 17 million Twitter followers since April, when he first announced plans to buy the social media company. But there is one billionaire who still has even more followers than he does. Oh, the power of an enormous Twitter following paired with an enormous fortune. Elon Musk—the world’s richest person—has 99.5 million Twitter followers who are exposed regularly to his rants and musings. He uses Twitter as a publicity tool (journalists regularly rush to cover whatever he says) and as a bully pulpit, complaining about regulators (including the Securities and Exchange Commission ), people he doesn’t like (that “pedo guy,” a term Musk used in 2019 to describe Vernon Unsworth, a British cave diver who helped rescue a trapped junior football team in Thailand. Opinion: Tesla’s technoking of tumult caps a wild quarter with silence
The man who dominates discussion about the future of transportation has gone uncharacteristically quiet at the close of a manic quarter. Even by Elon Musk’s high bar for bedlam, the last three months have been wild. Considering all that happened – Shanghai’s shutdown, another factory opening, the chaotic Twitter deal and job cuts at Tesla – it’s no wonder the technoking has hunkered down (he fired off his last tweet on June 21). ALSO READ: Elon Musk’s tweets echo tactics used to great effect by Donald Trump Tesla started this quarter with a bang, reporting deliveries of more than 310,000 cars in the prior three months. The company is expected to come up well short of that mark for the period ending in June, with several analysts calling for fewer than 250,000 units. When Musk disclosed the supposedly passive stake he’d taken in Twitter in early April and soon thereafter bid US$44bil (RM193.79bil) for the company, it signalled Tesla was on stable footing. Surely, the … [Read more...] about Opinion: Tesla’s technoking of tumult caps a wild quarter with silence
Richest billionaires lose US$1.4 trillion in worst half-year ever
Elon Musk - A + A (July 1): Elon Musk’s fortune plunged almost US$62 billion. Jeff Bezos saw his wealth tumble by about US$63 billion. Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth was slashed by more than half. All told, the world’s 500 richest people lost US$1.4 trillion in the first half of 2022, a dizzying decline that marks the steepest six-month drop ever for the global billionaire class. It’s a sharp departure from the previous two years, when the fortunes of the ultra-rich swelled as governments and central banks unleashed unprecedented stimulus measures in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, juicing the value of everything from tech companies to cryptocurrencies. With policy makers now raising interest rates to combat elevated inflation, some of the highest-flying shares -- and the billionaires who own them -- are losing altitude fast. Tesla Inc. had its worst quarter ever in the three months through June, while Amazon.com Inc. plummeted by the most since the dot-com … [Read more...] about Richest billionaires lose US$1.4 trillion in worst half-year ever
