New Clues On What Immigration Will Look Like In A Second Trump Term

August 3, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What would it mean for U.S. immigration policy if, on January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was sworn in as president of the United States? Many people expect a crackdown on illegal immigration. However, recent clues and past actions indicate the more significant impact of a second Trump presidency would be on legal immigration, including the admission of refugees, family immigrants and high-skilled professionals. Personnel Is Policy: “Former President Trump’s top allies are preparing to radically reshape the federal government if he is re-elected, purging potentially thousands of civil servants and filling career posts with loyalists to him and his ‘ America First ’ ideology . . . The heart of the plan is derived from an executive order known as “Schedule F,” according to Axios . The publication also reported American Moment, a pro-Trump group, wants to replace current federal workers with “applicants who want to cut … [Read more...] about New Clues On What Immigration Will Look Like In A Second Trump Term

How Do We Know What Extinct Species Looked Like?

June 22, 2015 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Jurassic World is out and reviews are quite divided – some people consider it one of the better sequels, nothing new but entertaining. Other people, especially dinosaur-lovers, got almost mad about the various scientific inaccuraties and the outdated dinosaur-reconstructions . [ Though Forbes' own paleontologist loved it . - Ed.] There's little doubt that the first movie – Jurassic Park – played an important role in how we re-imagined dinosaurs at the time. After Jurassic Park almost no children's book could dare to show dinosaurs as small-brained and cold-blooded  animals anymore. Reconstructing what extinct animals looked like, though, has never been an easy task. It's often been criticized, and depictions of prehistoric beasts often tell us more about human nature than natural history. August 5, 2022 by dailycaller.com

The Superintendent of Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) in Virginia apologized Wednesday after the district distributed a logo that resembled a Nazi Swastika. The school district unveiled a logo that it said was meant to be “four hands and arms grasping together.” Many criticized the insignia for its resemblance to the Nazi Swastika. “We are deeply sorry for this mistake and for the emotions that the logo has evoked by its semblance to a swastika and, by extension, to the atrocities that were committed under its banner,” school district Superintendent Michael Gill said in a statement . “Unquestionably, we condemn anything associated with the Nazi regime in the strongest manner possible.” (RELATED: Man Arrested In Connection To Swastikas Found On Walls Of Union Station Was Deported Twice: REPORT) “The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is deeply concerned about an image used in a Hanover County Public Schools program,” the group originally wrote on social media … [Read more...] about School District Apologizes For Logo That Looks Like Swastika

Friday’s job report will likely show slower growth. That’s what the Fed wants

August 4, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Minneapolis (CNN Business) When the latest jobs report comes out on Friday, it very well could show the smallest number of positions added in the past 18 months. The US economy is expected to have gained around 250,000 jobs last month, according to Refinitiv. While that's far from the 456,000 average monthly gains so far this year, it's not a sign that the sky is falling, economists say. In fact, it's exactly what the Federal Reserve wants to see. A more sustainable pace of employment growth is part of the Fed's game plan as the central bank looks to extinguish high inflation without completely upending the labor market or triggering a recession. Last month, payroll gains came in hot, surpassing expectations with 372,000 jobs added during June -- giving the Fed a green light to act aggressively with little fear of damaging the labor market. "If we got a number that was anything like the June number, the Fed would be rightfully worried, and I … [Read more...] about Friday’s job report will likely show slower growth. Branded is a weekly column devoted to the intersection of marketing, business, design, and culture. advertisement advertisement bullied its business into resistant markets and its treatment of drivers to a discriminatory and bro-ish corporate culture under founding CEO Travis Kalanick—was off-putting. In 2017, #DeleteUber was trending on social media, and some half a million users requested to have their accounts canceled. That year, the cumulative brand damage eventually led to Kalanick’s ouster. His replacement, Dara Khosrowshahi, summed up the challenging road ahead when he commented early in his tenure : “There’s a high cost to a bad reputation.” That core point—that a lousy brand rep eventually catches up with, and can doom, a business—has become a truism.
