Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If Steve Jobs saw the bottom of an Intellibed, he’d probably have a heart attack. If he slept in one, he might have gotten the sleep of his life. For the past month I’ve been testing a bed with more technology than has ever been upstairs in my home at one time. It’s controllable via Alexa or Siri. It offers multiple positions thanks to a “Sleep Genius” smart base. It has ports for charging your phone. It has a six-speaker Bluetooth soundbar, underlighting like a tricked-out street racing car, WiFi, and a remote control. You can kick off a vibration massage for your upper body or lower body, you can set it for a “zero-G” position in which your body seems to float, you can have it sing you to sleep. Well, not sing, precisely, but get you snoozing with gentle, relaxing music. Which, actually, turned out to be my favorite feature. Apparently, I’m pretty infantile. “It all started ... with this NASA research,” … [Read more...] about High-Tech Bed Sings You To Sleep With An Optional Massage

How this company’s organic bed helped it survive the DTC mattress wars
You love farm-to-table restaurants . You’ve bought a farm-to-closet dress . Why wouldn’t you want to spend your nights sleeping on a farm-t0-mattress bed? advertisement advertisement Avocado Green is counting on it. The mattress brand launched in 2016, at a time when hundreds of direct-to-consumer bed-in-a-box startups—like Casper, Purple, and Leesa—were flooding the internet with ads (and their bank accounts with money). By 2018, mattresses were a $29 billion market, with at least 189 different startups competing to own how we sleep, spending millions on social media ads, and paying mattress bloggers for positive reviews . But Avocado had a distinct approach. While other brands were focused on price or convenience, Avocado wanted to sell an entirely organic mattress. To do so, it had to build an entire supply chain from scratch, from buying a factory in Los Angeles to co-owning sheep and cotton farms in India. Consumer Reports this year. You Don’t Have to Starve Yourself for Days Like Jack Dorsey to Get the Benefits of Fasting
When Jack Dorsey announced on Twitter a while back that he sometimes doesn't eat for days , healthy eating advocates responded with a howl of outrage. But even though Dorsey's routine may be extreme, he's certainly not alone in his fascination with "intermittent fasting." "Eating is so last season" According to its many Silicon Valley backers, fasting isn't just a new trendy take on the good, old diet (or anorexia in disguise). It's a science-backed way to promote increased health and productivity. "Eating is so last season; these days all the cool kids fast," joked Arwa Mahdawi in a UK Guardian article chronicling the newfound obsession with not eating in Silicon Valley "where a number of high-profile tech execs extol the transformative power of extreme fasting." The Atlantic has also covered the tech industry's obsession with the idea. The claims of fasting fans aren't entirely baseless. Years of research have shown that calorie restriction increases … [Read more...] about You Don’t Have to Starve Yourself for Days Like Jack Dorsey to Get the Benefits of Fasting
My First Impressions Of ‘Tower Of Fantasy’ Are Not That Great
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin This week, I got access to a preview build of Tower of Fantasy , the upcoming action MMORPG from Chinese developer Perfect World that looks like a techno-infused spin on Genshin Impact, with more multiplayer elements added. It was certainly something I was interested to check out, and there are no significant embargoes on this preview build ahead of official launch in about a week. While I do like some aspects of Tower of Fantasy in the early hours here, my overall impressions are somewhat middling, split between issues with the game itself, one major progression-blocking bug, and then dealing with the overall gacha concept. First off, I think a lot of people are going to like the anime character creator, which lets you make and customize your very own waifu or husbando who will lead the game, and does have an actual voice actor throughout. Combat also is pretty enjoyable, between weapon switching combos and a … [Read more...] about My First Impressions Of ‘Tower Of Fantasy’ Are Not That Great
K-drama review: Lee Jong-Suk gives out Shah Rukh Khan vibes in ‘Big Mouth’
Lee Jong-Suk in Korean drama 'Big Mouth', streaming on Disney+Hotstar. (screen grab/trailer) My maid saw this contraption at my house, and she asked: which Korean show made you buy this? How could I admit that it was Lee Jong-Suk using the upright vacuum in Romance Is A Bonus Book that had not just me, but thousands of women across the world buying Dyson Upright Vacuum cleaners? How could I say that it was awesome to see a hero do household chores like vacuuming and still look cool, calm and collected? How could I tell her that I was smitten by this delicious romance between a younger man (writer, editor-in-chief of a publishing house) and an older woman (a bright copywriter who works as an office help because she needs a job after a horrid divorce)... Lee Jong-Suk gives you those Shah Rukh Khan vibes in this new show on Disney+Hotstar called Big Mouth (nothing to do with the animated show on Netflix), and the show already feels like a winner. How 3-Star Chef Mauro Colagreco Is Revitalizing French Riviera Dining
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When in the South of France, few travelers look past the Côte d'Azur's blockbuster towns of St Tropez , Cannes, Nice and Monaco. But hop on the public train that jostles along the coastline, and you'll be amazed by the diversity of the small towns to explore along the way, each with its own unique backstory. Menton, the very last town before you hit the Italian border just three miles away, is one such place and it’s here at his flagship restaurant Mirazur that three-star Michelin chef Mauro Colagreco’s story took root before being propelled onto the world stage as one of the world’s best chefs. Why Invest In Women? Why Not.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When we talk about equity as it relates to women’s empowerment these days, it’s often in the context of DEI committees and abstract steps. In this piece, I’m excited to share my conversations with two women driving change with equity in the form of real dollars and decisions. April Koh is the co-founder of Spring Health, a mental health platform and a unicorn twice over, which counts itself among the female-led startups that claimed 2.3% of all startup funds in 2020. Ita Ekpoudom is a partner at GingerBread Capital, a venture capital firm that invested in Spring Health. Koh and Ekpoudom are movers and shakers in the healthtech space, playing complementary roles that keep this ecosystem running strong. I met with these two powerhouses separately to ask some shared questions about what it’s like to be a leader in healthtech. I chatted with April over Zoom at 5:30 PM on a Friday while she was eating Hi-Chew and wearing a black … [Read more...] about Why Invest In Women? Why Not.

Tesla’s Next Major Competitor Could Be… Hyundai
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The rise of the EV is a disruptive moment in the auto industry. It could only have been instigated in its current form by a company outside the incumbent brands like Tesla. But other emerging players are clearly seeing EVs as an opportunity to rise up the rankings. The bulk of newcomers are likely to come from China, with a wealth of emerging Chinese brands like BYD, Xpeng, NIO and Geely aiming to seize their chance . But there’s another player with great potential to become a major player thanks to the shift to EVs: Hyundai. Japanese manufacturers Toyota and Nissan have been respected for quality for decades now, and Toyota was the most valuable car company in the world until Tesla’s exploding share price usurped it. Korean manufacturers Kia and Hyundai, however, haven’t managed to escape the rung below the Japanese, despite arguably producing cars that are just as good, and that are backed by incredible warranties, which … [Read more...] about Tesla’s Next Major Competitor Could Be… Hyundai
