Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s a little premature to get nostalgic for V-8 engines, but like it or not, the sun is setting on V-8s, and gasoline engines in general. Automakers are already shifting their development dollars into switching to electric vehicles , within a surprisingly short time frame — even venerable, wood-and-leather brands like Jaguar and Land Rover . Jaguar has already announced its intention to go all-electric by 2025. Land Rover says it expects to launch its first all-electric vehicle in 2024, with more to come. With the agenda so fixed on electric vehicles , the question becomes, “Are customers still interested in V-8s?” said Simon Turner, Land Rover product manager for Jaguar Land Rover North America, in a recent presentation at company headquarters in Mahwah, N.J. “You bet,” he said. “They are.” V-8s remain a key part of the business for both brands. Jaguar offers V-8s on the Jaguar F-Type sports car and … [Read more...] about In The Electric Vehicle Age, Do People Still Want V-8s? ‘You Bet,’ Says Jaguar Land Rover

Hydrogen Cars Might Be Dead Already Despite This Fuel Cell Hypercar
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It was a momentous announcement over the last few months – Toyota’s first all-electric car, the bZ4X, was launched in the UK , having arrived in the USA in April and Japan in May. After the Japanese company’s feet-dragging and negativity towards EVs, in favor of hydrogen, it felt like an “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” moment. It might be the first ding the death knell for fuel-cell vehicles, but there is another factor that could kill hydrogen stone dead except where you absolutely must use it. Although the bZ4X’s launch has already been significantly marred by a recall , the car has potential. Its headline act is the battery warranty, which is for ten years or a million kilometers (620,000 miles). This will reassure the naysayers who go on about “having to change the battery after three years” (because they think an EV is the same as a smartphone). Otherwise, the bZ4X merely matches the crowd, with a … [Read more...] about Hydrogen Cars Might Be Dead Already Despite This Fuel Cell Hypercar

What to Do With All That Inventory You Can’t Sell
Last week, I wrote about how to avoid ending up with inventory you cannot sell . But let's say that's exactly what you have: A garage stacked with boxes of product you thought consumers needed, but have had trouble getting off your hands. In my experience, this is not uncommon. For more than 15 years now, I've been hearing a version of the story below. You have this great idea for a new product you believe everyone wants. So you file a patent application, which, after it issues and all is said and done, ends up costing you about $15,000. You work with a manufacturer overseas to produce the minimum amount required for an order, which runs you between $20,000 and $50,000. You pay a professional to help you set up your website and begin selling on Amazon, which you perceive to be a low-cost course of action. All in all, by the time you're in business, you've made a major financial investment. But without the marketing to back it up, the reality is, finding your … [Read more...] about What to Do With All That Inventory You Can’t Sell
Child prodigy sets record in recognising car logos
JOHOR BARU: When he was three, he knew the different national flowers of many countries. And now at six, L. Raguram can identify the logo of almost any car around the world. The boy just won himself a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records by identifying 190 car logos within five minutes. His mother, dentist Dr P. Ranganayaki Devi, 34, said her son has liked cars since he was four. “He can identify more than 200 car logos, but in this competition, he managed to do 190 within the period,” she said, adding that her son loved electric car maker Tesla and one day hoped to meet with its CEO, Elon Musk. She said her son hopes to be a car scientist when he grows up and develop environmentally-friendly cars, adding that Raguram’s interest in cars is partly due to his engineer father, L. Letchumanan, 37, who is also obsessed with cars. She said that when they celebrated Raguram’s first birthday, a friend brought him a small toy car and he has kept it ever since. “When he was four, … [Read more...] about Child prodigy sets record in recognising car logos

The Top Five Reasons Customers Don’t Come Back
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Whatever you sell, be it a product or service, your customers expect that it will do what it’s supposed to do. If you sell a car, the car should work. If you sell a service, the outcome should meet expectations. That’s table stakes. So, let’s assume that whatever your customers are buying from you will meet their expectations. However, that’s not always why the customer buys from you in the first place, let alone comes back to buy more. It’s the customer experience that drives that. In our 2022 Achieving Customer Amazement research , more than 1,000 American consumers were asked, “How likely would you be to switch companies or leave a brand after experiencing any of the following bad customer service experiences?” They were asked to rate several reasons using a scale that ranged from “not likely” to “very likely.” Here are the top five reasons customers would leave: 1. Rudeness or apathy from a company or brand … [Read more...] about The Top Five Reasons Customers Don’t Come Back
