June 27, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Telfs-Buchen, Austria (CNN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told G7 leaders during a virtual meeting Monday that he wants the war in Ukraine to end by the end of 2022, according to a source familiar with his remarks , as leaders worked to starve Russia of its oil revenues and mitigate the economic fallout of the conflict. The dual missions -- sustain support for Ukraine while easing economic pressures at home -- have defined this year's summit of leading democracies, held high in the Bavarian Alps. While largely united, the leaders are all facing their own political imperatives to see a momentum shift in the fighting and bring an end to the conflict quickly. To that end, leaders were nearing an agreement to try capping the price of Russian oil, depriving the country of revenues that have soared amid the global spike in energy prices. Details were still being ironed out, including whether the top buyers of Russian oil would agree to the limits, but US officials … [Read more...] about G7 leaders work to ‘starve’ Russia of oil money as Zelensky says he wants the war over by the end of the year

The Best Camera For A Child May Be One They Have To Build

August 30, 2013 by www.fastcompany.com

A while back, we wrote about the Bigshot camera , a panoramic, 3-D capable camera kit by Columbia University professor Shree Nayar. Now, Bigshot is on the market. advertisement advertisement “We live in an age where software rules,” Nayar tells Co.Design. “That’s a good thing from my perspective. On the other hand, I’m a firm believer that we want the next generation to know how to build the stuff that software sits on top of.” Conscious that the prize of a camera itself could bribe kids into building one, Nayar carefully crafted the Bigshot to focus just as much on the educational journey as the entertaining destination. “I’ve put in things that I could use as an excuse for describing concepts,” he tells Co.Design, like a hand-cranked power generator and the dynamo cover, which can explain electro-magnetics. “I’m using the camera as a draw, as a hook, as a bait.” By trade, Nayar isn’t a designer. (The professor concentrates on the science of … [Read more...] about The Best Camera For A Child May Be One They Have To Build
