Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A few years back I found myself unusually anxious and depressed. I was lethargic, weepy, and unshakably overwhelmed with feelings of dread and shame. Given there were no obvious triggers, I decided to get some blood work done to rule out anything physiological. As a therapist and executive coach , I knew that no amount of therapy would remediate the psychological effects of physiological imbalance. When my results came back, I was relieved to clearly see the potential problem: I was deficient in Vitamin D, a micronutrient integral to mental health. I began supplementing, and within a couple of weeks the chronic shame and dread were reduced (to my everyday New Yorker neuroses). Unfortunately, most mental health professionals and physicians aren’t taught to screen for nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances as possible reasons for mental health challenges. The system tends to support prescribing side-effect heavy … [Read more...] about Shockingly, Most Therapists And Doctors Don’t Address This Critical Area Of Your Mental Health. TBD Health Raises $4.4 Million In Seed Funding To Democratize Access To Inclusive Sexual Care
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Stigma is one of the most under-addressed social determinants of health that can seriously impact the way that patients think about prioritizing their health needs and their care-seeking behavior. As a society, sexual practices are constantly evolving and so should our sexual healthcare with it. By not talking about it or making it shameful to talk about sex, and due to the pervasive lack of adequate sex education, we create a climate where people are under-informed or misinformed about their sexual health and what resources are available to them. While there are certainly fantastic providers specially trained in sexual health, there are many more that are uncomfortable talking to their patients about sex. A recent study has shown that although “sexual health is generally considered an integral part of medical and allied healthcare professional training, many medical schools do not offer this as a mandatory curriculum, or … [Read more...] about TBD Health Raises $4.4 Million In Seed Funding To Democratize Access To Inclusive Sexual Care

ChatGPT Is Changing How Teen Entrepreneurs Think About Business
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I recently used ChatGPT for the first time and received this notice. It's safe to say I wasn't the only person interested in learning more about this platform. ChatGPT first came to my attention through educators who were upset about it on social media. I then heard about the chatbot from teens who were utilizing it to help with their crippling homework load. Most recently I saw a discussion on Facebook with a group of people age 40 and older who were commenting on how ChatGPT is just a “trend” and a “buzzword” For those unfamiliar with ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), it is a free online tool that allows you to present text-based queries on a variety of topics. When you get on the website, it provides you with sample questions like, “Explain quantum computing in simple terms”. ChatGPT also provides a place to type in your particular question. It’s not hard to see how the tool could be used by students, … [Read more...] about ChatGPT Is Changing How Teen Entrepreneurs Think About Business
Why Well-Being Protocols Are Crucial For Job Longevity
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Dr. Marta Ra is a sustainability, health & well-being expert. She co-founded the international network Women in Sustainable Finance (WISF). At a historic 57.3%, 2020 saw employee turnover rates reach monumental heights in the U.S. Unfortunately, rates have only continued to increase in the post-pandemic world. As of August 2022, more than 4 million Americans left their jobs. With only slightly less dramatic rates, the Great Resignation has also taken Europe and the United Kingdom by storm. It goes without saying that a high turnover rate can negatively impact a company. Not only does it hurt image and morale, but it also costs a fortune. For example, studies show that when you factor in productivity costs, such as lost knowledge or time spent on finding and training a replacement, it can cost employers an average of 33% of an employee’s yearly salary for their exit. In contrast, Gallup research shows … [Read more...] about Why Well-Being Protocols Are Crucial For Job Longevity
Attracting, Retaining And Supporting Employees In The Modern World Of Work
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Chief Academic & Learning Officer ( HCI Academy ); Chair/Professor, Organizational Leadership (UVU); OD Consultant (Human Capital Innovations) As I walked into the office on my first day as a new hire, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. I had landed my dream job at a company that I had long admired for its innovative products and forward-thinking culture. As I settled into my new role, I quickly realized that the company lived up to its reputation. My manager was supportive and empowering, the company provided a range of benefits and perks and there was a strong emphasis on work-life balance. It was clear that the company valued its employees and was committed to their success. Over the years, I've come to realize that, unfortunately, this type of positive, healthy work experience is often not the norm. In today's modern world of work, many employees feel overworked, undervalued … [Read more...] about Attracting, Retaining And Supporting Employees In The Modern World Of Work
RV Makers Enjoyed Pandemic Boom, But Would Settle For Pre-2020 Sales
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Recreational-vehicle makers enjoyed a record decade of sales after the Great Recession, with the industry’s unprecedented boom times coinciding with an expansion of Americans in upscale demographics, a period of relatively inexpensive gasoline, and one that saw massive retirements by the leading edge of the baby boom, as well as other favorable factors. Then, when the pandemic hit in 2020, RV sales revved to an even higher level, fueled by consumers’ interest in “social distancing,” the freedom many gained to be physically untethered from their workplaces, and the extra cash that found its way into American’s bank accounts due to federal-government largess. Now RV makers face an uncertain future, one where sales have come down markedly from Covid-era peaks but a landscape that also allows for a certain amount of optimism despite macroeconomic trends that seem foreboding. “In the 19 RV shows we’ve already … [Read more...] about RV Makers Enjoyed Pandemic Boom, But Would Settle For Pre-2020 Sales
Dry January Is Becoming A Lifestyle
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Dry January has become a cultural phenomenon marketed as a healthy way to start of the new year. One in five adults claimed to have participated in Dry January in 2022 which is up 13% from 2021. To no surprise the movement is driven by Millennials and Gen Z. The wellness savvy generations make up 46% of participants vs 30% of Baby Boomers and Gen X. While the data isn’t in for the percentage of people who participated in the 2023 festivities, it is likely to be even higher due to the introduction of Damp January. Damp January has been coined as Dry January’s “cousin” for only requiring abstinence from alcohol for a only a portion of the month or having a lower intake across the whole month. After Hilary Sheinbaum’s accidental Dry January she decided to help others embarking on the journey by writing The Dry Challenge, “I started participating in Dry Januarys by accident. On New Years Eve 2016, I was at a party and … [Read more...] about Dry January Is Becoming A Lifestyle
