Biden Decoded: Ukraine Will Get HIMARS Rocket Systems, But Not Long-Range Missiles

May 31, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin President Joe Biden been known for his gaffes and slips of the tongue —generally breaches of decorum rather than substance. But in the realm of international politics and security, minor changes in wording can lead to substantively different interpretations. That was evident in a recent statement made by Biden asserting a U.S. commitment to defend Taiwan that his staff seemingly attempted to walk back—and late in May it appears to be tripping up his messaging regarding military assistance to Ukraine. As Russian forces advance further into Ukraine’s Donbas region with the reported capture of most of the symbolically important city of Severodonetsk, speculation and controversy swirled around Biden’s statement Monday, “We’re not going to send to Ukraine rocket systems that can strike into Russia” in response to a journalist’s question. That came after days of reports from prominent U.S. media his administration was … [Read more...] about Biden Decoded: Ukraine Will Get HIMARS Rocket Systems, But Not Long-Range Missiles

Biden: Senate Should Break Filibuster To Codify Abortion Rights Into Law

June 30, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline At a press conference in Madrid at the conclusion of a summit of NATO leaders on Thursday, President Joe Biden focused on pledging ongoing support for Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia but made the biggest waves when he called for an “exception” to the Senate’s filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade into law. Key Facts Biden called the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade last Friday that allows states to ban abortions “outrageous” during the press conference. “I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade into law and the way to do that is to make sure Congress votes to do that,” Biden said Thursday. The remainder of Biden’s press conference centered on Russia’s impact on global security, and he said the U.S. will “stick with Ukraine as long as it takes.” The war that began when Russia invaded Ukraine February 24 “will not end with a Russian defeat of Ukraine,” Biden said. Biden Administration Can Get Rid Of Trump’s ‘Remain In Mexico’ Policy, Supreme Court Rules

June 30, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The Biden administration can rescind the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy that forced asylum seekers to stay out of the U.S. as they awaited an immigration hearing, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday, after conservative federal judges had previously thwarted the White House’s attempts to get rid of the controversial policy. Key Facts Chief Justice John Roberts, joined by the court’s liberal justices and Justice Brett Kavanaugh, ruled the Biden administration did have the authority to get rid of the Migrant Protection Protocols, known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy. GOP officials in Texas and Missouri had sued the administration after it rescinded the Trump-era policy once President Joe Biden took office, and both district and appeals courts had ruled in the states’ favor and said the policy should remain in effect. Those lower courts “erred” by upholding the policy, the justices … [Read more...] about Biden Administration Can Get Rid Of Trump’s ‘Remain In Mexico’ Policy, Supreme Court Rules

Biden Backs Changing Filibuster To Codify Roe V. Wade

June 30, 2022 by dailycaller.com

President Joe Biden said Thursday that he would back a filibuster carve-out in order to codify Roe v. Wade. During a press conference, Biden was asked what “specific actions” he’s considering following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that deemed abortion was protected under the U.S. Constitution. “The first and foremost thing we should do is make it clear how outrageous this decision was and how much it impacts not just on a women’s right to choose, which is a critical, critical piece, but on privacy generally,” Biden said during a press conference in Spain, where he’s wrapping up the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit. “But the most important thing, to be clear about it, I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade in the law and the way to do that is to make sure Congress votes to do that.” “And if the filibuster gets in the way, like voting rights, we provide an exception for this, we require an exception to the … [Read more...] about Biden Backs Changing Filibuster To Codify Roe V. SCOTUS rules Biden can scrap signature Trump-era immigration policy

June 30, 2022 by dailycaller.com

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Biden administration can stop the implementation of the Trump-era ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy. The policy, formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, forces certain migrants to await asylum proceedings in Mexico. The Trump administration enacted the policy in 2019 to send certain migrants to Mexico to await their asylum proceedings. But, on his second day in office, President Joe Biden ended the policy, calling it both “dangerous” and “inhumane.” “For the reasons explained, the Government’s rescission of MPP did not violate section 1225 of the INA, and the October 29 Memoranda did constitute final agency action. We therefore reverse the judgment of the Court of Appeals and remand the case for further proceedings consistent with this opinion. On remand, the District Court should consider in the first instance whether the October 29 Memoranda comply with section 706 of the APA,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in Thursday’s 5-4 … [Read more...] about SCOTUS rules Biden can scrap signature Trump-era immigration policy

‘Socialist Agenda’: Rep. Andy Barr Says Biden’s Infrastructure Plan Is Part Of An Agenda That Won’t Receive ‘Bipartisan Support At All’

May 12, 2021 by dailycaller.com

Rep. Andy Barr said Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan is part of an agenda that won’t receive any bipartisan support. “Unfortunately, Maria, I think this is window dressing, this is one more phase of a socialist agenda,” Barr said on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.” The president introduced his $2 trillion American Jobs Plan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the end of March. Biden’s plan allocates $10 billion towards “a new Civilian Climate Corps,” $25 billion for revamping and building child care facilities in “high need areas,” and $35 billion for investments in technological development to address climate change, according to a White House fact sheet. ‘Destabilizing’: Biden Calls The Supreme Court Overruling Roe V. Wade ‘Outrageous Behavior’

June 30, 2022 by dailycaller.com

President Joe Biden called the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade “outrageous behavior” at Thursday’s NATO summit. Associated Press White House reporter Darlene Superville asked the president what message he sends to world leaders when a reported 85% of the American public believe the country is going down the wrong path. Biden said leaders do not believe the nation is going backward. “They do not think that,” he replied. “You haven’t found one person, one world leader to say ‘America is going backwards.’ America’s better positioned to lead the world than we ever have been. We have the strongest economy in the world, our inflation rates are lower than other nations in the world. The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States by overruling not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy.” WATCH: The president said the nation had led the world in protecting privacy … [Read more...] about ‘Destabilizing’: Biden Calls The Supreme Court Overruling Roe V. June 29, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Lev Parnas will face 20 months in prison on campaign finance and wire fraud charges, a federal judge ruled Wednesday, closing out a criminal case against a Ukrainian-American businessman whose alleged role in helping Rudy Giuliani dredge up dirt about President Joe Biden made him a key figure in former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. Key Facts Judge Paul Oetken also ordered Parnas to pay about $2.3 million in restitution and face three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York said in a statement. Parnas was convicted last year of illegally funneling a Russian oligarch’s money into several 2018 political campaigns, a scheme prosecutors say was designed to nudge politicians to give licenses to a recreational marijuana business. "The process has begun," he said after talks with his counterpart from Belarus. Lavrov said Russia has not had any relations with the European Union since 2014, when Moscow annexed the peninsula of Crimea from Ukraine following a popular uprising in Kyiv. He said Moscow would not trust Washington and Brussels "from now on". "The EU is not at all interested in understanding our interests," Lavrov added.
