caption Brazilian butt lifts can be deadly. source Marina Indova/iStock The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has warned its members not to perform Brazilian butt lifts until there’s more data about the procedure. In a Brazilian butt lift, fat is removed from one part of the body and injected into the buttocks. It has the highest death rate of all cosmetic procedures, the BAAPS said in a statement. That’s because injected fat may end up inside the blood vessels and cause a fatal blockage of blood flow. A plastic surgery organization in the UK has warned its members to stop performing potentially deadly Brazilian butt lifts – at least until there’s more research done on the procedure. On Thursday, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) announced it was officially dissuading all members from offering the surgery while more data is collected, CNN reported. Second Brit dies after ‘Brazilian butt lift’ surgery
A second British woman has died from "Brazilian butt lift" surgery, the BBC has learned, as fresh warnings come over the risks. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) said it was the most dangerous cosmetic procedure to undergo. The surgery has been made popular by celebrities. But many people are putting themselves at risk by seeking cheaper procedures abroad, Baaps warned. 'One death in 3,000' A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a cosmetic procedure in which fat is taken from one part of the body and then injected into the buttocks. Baaps told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme an estimated one in 3,000 die worldwide as a result of complications. Former Fiat Chrysler and Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has died after complications following surgery — here are some of the biggest risks people face after an operation
Sergio Marchionne, former CEO at Fiat Chrysler and Ferrari, has died at age 66 after he fell ill following a shoulder surgery. It’s still unclear whether Marchionne’s death was caused by an illness or condition that was more severe than had been previously reported, or if it was the result of complications from his surgical procedure. As Stanford Health Care explains, many people experience a range of typical post-operation discomforts. How far would you go to be able to smile?
Kevin Portillo practises smiling every day at home. Usually after brushing his teeth. Or when stopping by the bathroom, or anywhere with a mirror. He hooks an index finger into each side of his mouth and pulls gently upward. He puckers his face into a kiss, then opens wide into an O, trying to limber up his facial muscles. He practices both the Mona Lisa–slight, closed-lip–and a wide, toothy smile. At least, he’s supposed to do his exercises every day. Being 13, he sometimes forgets, though he understands their importance. “I need to stretch my cheeks,” he says. “I do it for a couple minutes. I have to do it every single day.” He exercises so much that his jaw sometimes hurts. Kevin was born in New Jersey with a rare malignant vascular tumor, a kaposiform haemangioendothelioma, covering the left side of his face, squeezing shut his left eye and pushing his nose to the right. Immediately after his birth, doctors whisked him away to another … [Read more...] about How far would you go to be able to smile?
