Thailand’s Government said on Monday it would start its covid-19 vaccination program next month by administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to high-risk groups , as it faces accusations of being too slow to secure vaccines. Health workers in Samut Sakhon province, the epicentre of the latest outbreak, where more than 900 infections were reported on Monday, would be the first to get the covod-19 vaccine with the initial delivery of 50,000 doses. The elderly and people with chronic diseases would also be a priority, officials said. Thailand’s food and drug administration last week approved AstraZeneca’s vaccine for emergency use. The ministry has yet to grant authorization for that of Sinovac Biotech, of which Thailand has ordered 2 million doses. Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday said AstraZeneca would be supplying 50,000 fewer doses of the vaccine than the 200,000 Thailand had ordered. “With the orders they have at hand, they just confirmed to us, they … [Read more...] about Thailand to Commence Covid-19 Vaccinations Starting Next Month

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Simon Meffan-Main , Ph.D., Vice President, the Tetra Partner Network, TetraScience - the Scientific Data Cloud Company. The Covid-19 pandemic has been the greatest health crisis of our time. However, it crystallized once and for all that a transformation across life sciences to accelerate new therapies is not only possible but essential. Covid-19 is the classic example of a " black swan " event—something rare and unpredictable that catches us off-guard and dramatically alters the status quo. For biopharmaceutical companies that meant abandoning "the way we've always done it" to consider novel ways of working that they might have otherwise been slow to adopt. Prior to this black swan event, vaccine development typically took at least seven years . Yet once the industry set its sights on Covid-19 vaccines, it developed two incredibly effective vaccines in under one year. This speed can be credited to the … [Read more...] about No Turning Back For Post-Covid-19 Pharma, But How Quickly Can The Industry Move?

THE BIDEN ADMIN SHUT DOWN OUR OWN COVID ORIGIN INVESTIGATION… Report: Biden Admin Shut Down Trump-Era Probe Into Coronavirus Lab Leak Theory President Joe Biden’s administration shut down a State Department inquiry into whether the coronavirus could have spread out of a lab where the Chinese government was studying coronaviruses, CNN reported Tuesday. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly started the inquiry in late fall of 2020, seeking to establish whether the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had been using a lab in Wuhan to research COVID-19 and diseases like it, CNN reported. Biden’s administration reportedly cut off the inquiry this spring after questioning the legitimacy of the research and ultimately concluding it was a poor use of resources, the outlet reported. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Week in Review Asian equities saw another week of turbulent trading, with growth stocks seeing the brunt of the selling pressure on increasing concerns about global growth and monetary policy. Trip.com and other travel-related stocks rallied early in the week as Hong Kong and Macau scrapped quarantine requirements for visitors. Mainland China is expected to follow suit by shortening the duration of requisite visitor quarantines. The National Health Commission on Tuesday announced that it would provide loans to hospitals for medical equipment upgrades, sending many health care stocks higher. The US dollar’s rise appears to be peaking though the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) continues to make it more difficult to short the Yuan, protecting the currency’s value against the dollar. Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In his wonderful book American Happiness and Its Discontents , George Will wrote that Founding Father John Adams began each day with a tankard of beer. The anecdote read as incongruous. How could Adams have been so productive in light of how his days commenced? In a subsequent conversation with the author, he underscored that the U.S. was formerly a “drinking nation,” which we both marveled at for it not mirroring the present. This came to mind while reading Alex Epstein’s essential and excellent new book, Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas – Not Less . Epstein seemed to unearth the why behind Adams’s prodigious early morning drinking: unhealthy water. As Epstein writes about a third of the way through what will now be referred to as Fossil , “Drinking water for most people at most times, has been naturally dirty and or distant.” While the idealistic among us … [Read more...] about Book Review: Alex Epstein’s Excellent and Essential ‘Fossil Future’
