SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): The Republic will get its largest district cooling system at an industrial development in Ang Mo Kio by 2025, as uptake of the energy-saving technology speeds up on the tropical island. The latest project comes after announcements were made in the past month to install or expand district cooling networks around Singapore, namely Kent Ridge, Jurong Lake District, Tampines and Marina Bay. Singapore is looking to cut electricity usage and carbon emissions with district cooling networks, which allow clusters of buildings to share and optimise the load of cooling through centralised chiller plants. On Wednesday (May 18), utilities company SP Group and global semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics said the project at STMicroelectronics' TechnoPark in Ang Mo Kio will be operational in 2025, with the firm investing US$370 million (S$514 million) over 20 years. The system is expected to achieve 20 per cent savings in electricity … [Read more...] about Singapore to build largest industrial district cooling system by 2025

The federal government has a long slog ahead, and it has nothing to do with politics. advertisement advertisement The Biden administration has set a series of ambitious energy and carbon emissions goals, including using energy that is 100% free of greenhouse gas pollution by 2030 , purchasing only non-gas-powered vehicles by 2035 , and producing net zero carbon emissions from federal buildings by 2045 . With a portfolio of more than 300,000 buildings and a fleet of 600,000 cars and trucks , meeting these goals will require a lot of new technology—and soon. Meet The Forbes OZ 20: The Top Players Investing For Lasting Impact
O pportunity Zones have been having a rough time in the press. The tax policy —bipartisan, market based, and designed to inject billions of dollars into long overlooked communities—has recently been cast in the media as another tax loophole for billionaires, giving investors (many political connected) big tax breaks to build real estate projects for the rich, not the underserved people the law was designed to help. Every new tax law creates a new loophole. There will always be bad actors and unintended consequences. As stories on tax policies go, it makes for a scandalous read. But there is another story, one less salacious but equally important, of bold investors and creative civic leaders using OZ law as it was meant to be. Apex Healthcare 1Q net profit up 33%, carried by higher sales revenue
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Apex Healthcare Bhd’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2022 (1QFY22) surged 32.76% to RM15.77 million, from RM11.88 million a year ago, underpinned by higher sales revenue achieved by its operating subsidiaries. Meanwhile, Apex Healthcare’s quarterly revenue rose 20.3% to RM215.92 million as compared to RM179.49 million in 1QFY21, driven by private sector demand for cough and cold products induced by the Omicron Covid-19 variant — which it said manifested largely as a community respiratory illness. The group said its improved net profit was also attributed to an improved contribution from its associate company Straits Apex Group Sdn Bhd of RM860,000, a 153.1% increase as compared to a year ago. “In January and February, production output was again dampened by workforce Covid-19 infections and exacerbated by persistent supply chain disruption for certain components and services. Stocks pummeled by growth worries, U.S. dollar climbs
- A + A NEW YORK (May 19): Global stocks plunged and the dollar strengthened for the first time in four sessions on Wednesday as concerns about rising inflation on economic growth soured sentiment. The mood was underscored by a 9% surge in British consumer prices and a faster-than-expected acceleration in inflation in Canada. British inflation surged to its highest annual rate since 1982 as energy bills soared, while Canadian inflation rose to 6.8% last month, largely driven by rising food and shelter prices, Statistics Canada data showed. British inflation is now the highest among major economies in Europe, but prices are rapidly rising worldwide, forcing central banks around the globe to hike interest rates and tamp down growth as suggested by a modest decline in U.S. homebuilding in April. Soaring prices and material shortages have already hit homebuilding, the sector of the economy most sensitive to rates. But the U.S. Commerce Department report also showed … [Read more...] about Stocks pummeled by growth worries, U.S. dollar climbs
TISI dips to 86.2 in April on oil price hike
The Thailand Industry Sentiment Index (TISI) in April fell to 86.2 points from 89.2 in March due mainly to the global oil price surge, driven by the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war, and higher inflation. The drop in the TISI came following its hike in March, the highest rise in 25 months, according to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). "Factors that directly impacted industrial confidence are increasing production costs resulting from higher energy and raw material prices as well as expensive logistics costs," said Kriengkrai Thiennukul, chairman of the FTI. Manufacturing in April also decreased as many factories were closed during long holidays to celebrate the Songkran festival. Consumers are also in a gloomy situation. Many of them are facing huge household debt while others have seen their purchasing power dive amid higher rates of inflation. Mr Kriengkrai called on the government to continue to boost consumer purchasing power through its stimulus programmes, including … [Read more...] about TISI dips to 86.2 in April on oil price hike
