Representative Image| A hydropower plant being constructed along the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal. Image by Jonas Gratzer for Mongabay. The New Development Bank (NDB) has reached out to India Exim Bank with an offer to co-finance trade infrastructure across the world. While India remains a stakeholder in the multilateral NDB, any prospective partnership will mark the first time that it partners with China, considered to be a major global rival in all forms of multilateral finance, including export credit, and project exports in particular. "I invite India Exim Bank to identify some priority projects, in trade enabled infrastructure, which involves both the elements of physical infrastructure as well as of technology," NDB President Marcos Prado Troyjo said. Troyjo was virtually attending a summit on project exports organized by India Exim Bank on May 5. Formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank, the multilateral development bank was established by five nations … [Read more...] about New Development Bank seeks to co-finance trade infrastructure projects with India Exim Bank

Funds stage sizable soy, soymeal selloff ahead of USDA data

May 16, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

NAPERVILLE, Ill., : Speculators have been easing massively bullish bets in Chicago-traded grain and oilseed futures in recent weeks, though they have been hesitant to add too many shorts due to unprecedented price levels and continuing uncertainties over global supplies. That sentiment may have been confirmed late last week with the U.S. government’s first supply and demand outlooks for the upcoming year, which showed stocks remaining relatively narrow through mid-2023, especially for wheat. CBOT corn and soybean futures have softened so far this month, falling a little more than 2% in the week ended May 10. In that period, money managers cut their net long position in CBOT soybean futures and options to 130,661 contracts from 153,253 a week earlier. That capped off their largest two-week soybean selling streak since June 2021 and their net long fell to the lowest levels since January, according to data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. File Image. Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth during a meeting, in New Delhi, Friday, December 6, 2019. (PIB/ PTI Photo) After being the largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) for India since economic liberalisation in 1991, Mauritius is looking to attract investments from Indian businesses as it attempts to shed the image of being a tax haven. The Indian Ocean island nation also wants to reduce its reliance on China as a development partner and mend a tourism-dependent economy hurt by the global travel shutdown in the aftermath of the pandemic. Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, in India on an eight-day trip, is scheduled to meet with business leaders in Lucknow and other cities. He has already met the Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, seeking both bilateral partnerships as well as support to push Mauritius as an investment destination in these states, multiple sources in the know said. Pipeline centrestage for censure debate

May 17, 2022 by www.bangkokpost.com

Transparency, or the alleged lack of it, in the bidding for a concession to manage and operate the main water transmission pipeline system for the eastern region, including the government's flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), is set to be the highlight of the planned censure debate. The Bangkok Post takes a look at the 25-billion-baht water project that, according to the opposition, may decide the fate of the government. What is known about the main water transmission pipeline system for the east? The Treasury Department awarded a concession to Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Co, or East Water, to lease/manage the water transmission work. Currently, the system comprises three pipelines: Dok Krai, Nong Pla Lai-Nong Khor and Nong Khor-Laem Chabang. East Water was granted the concession to manage/operate the Dok Krai pipeline in 1994 which was at that time valued at 772.09 million baht. The concession will expire on Dec 31 next year. The Nong … [Read more...] about Pipeline centrestage for censure debate

Exclusive | EPFO interest rate credit likely to happen earlier than previous years

May 5, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Millions of salaried employees will not be required to wait till the end of 2022 to get their FY22 PF interest credited to their account as the employees’ provident fund organisation (EPFO) is expected to complete the process well in advance. This is largely due to two factors. First, the 8.1% interest rate for FY22 is the lowest in 43 years, and hence unlikely to face scrutiny from the finance ministry. Secondly, crediting interest rate of 8.1% earlier will benefit EPFO’s financial health as the outgo will be less during PF claim settlements, at least two government officials said requesting anonymity. EPFO under the labour ministry may disburse the interest rate ahead of Dusshera-Diwali festive season, one of the two officials cited above said. “I don’t think the finance ministry will have much of a problem in giving formal approval to 8.1% interest rate. Expect the credit of interest pay-out happening earlier this year,” said one of the officials. … [Read more...] about Exclusive | EPFO interest rate credit likely to happen earlier than previous years
