The Women Of Netflix’s ‘The Tinder Swindler’ Unite As Court Date Approaches

June 24, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Long before the premiere of the Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler, diamond mogul Lev Leviev (aka The King of Diamonds ) founded LLD Diamonds. The company and the Leviev family became the subject of the highly controversial Netflix documentary that was viewed by more than 50 million subscribing households within weeks of its February 2 premiere. Those featured in the film were thrust into the limelight and their lives were forever changed. The women involved have united to fight their claims that they were scammed by Shimon Hayut (who now goes by Simon Leviev but will be referred to as Hayut in this article to avoid confusion). He is denying all allegations made against him. Both sides will face off in court on Tuesday, June 28 at 11:30 IST at a preliminary hearing in the Tel Aviv Magistrate Court. Attorney Guy Ophir, who is representing the Leviev family, spoke in a phone interview and said that he expects the … [Read more...] about The Women Of Netflix’s ‘The Tinder Swindler’ Unite As Court Date Approaches

How we can meet Biden’s 2030 climate goals with today’s technology

June 25, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Unprecedented forest fires in the drought-stricken western United States . Tropical storms and rising seas threatening the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. Sizzling heat across large swaths of the country. As climate change unfolds before our eyes, what can the U.S. do to sharply and rapidly reduce its share of the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing it? advertisement advertisement The Biden administration has committed to reducing those emissions 50% by 2030 to below 2005 levels. That’s a critical first step of a global energy transition that must achieve net-zero emissions by midcentury to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) and thereby avert the worst impacts of climate change. Twenty years ago, I would have regarded the U.S. 2030 pledge as crazy talk. But a new study in the journal Science that I coauthored, compares results from six independent analyses conducted by academic, industry, and nongovernmental … [Read more...] about How we can meet Biden’s 2030 climate goals with today’s technology

Crunch time after all-night climate talks in Paris

December 10, 2015 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

A woman takes a picture of a globe at the COP21, the United Nations Climate Change Conference Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 in Le Bourget, north of Paris. The Paris conference is the 21st time world governments are meeting to seek a joint solution to climate change. The talks are focused on reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, primarily by shifting from oil, coal and gas to cleaner sources of energy. AP LE BOURGET — Weary envoys from 195 nations battling to forge an accord to save mankind from disastrous global warming emerged Thursday from all-night talks facing an imminent deadline with deal-breaking rows still unresolved. More than two decades of bruising international diplomacy have failed to produce such a pact, which would require the world’s energy system to cut back on burning coal, oil and gas that releases planet-warming gases. The 195-nation UN talks in the French capital have been billed as the last chance to avert worst-case-scenario climate … [Read more...] about Crunch time after all-night climate talks in Paris

Travel Alert: Covid-19 Cases Are Back To July Levels, And Rising Fast

October 13, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Here we go again. Seven months into the coronavirus pandemic, Covid-19 numbers are going in the wrong direction in 29 of 50 states. Despite President Trump saying repeatedly that Covid-19 is “going away,” the data shows that the virus is not going anywhere. The U.S. is seeing widespread increases in Covid-19 cases at the same level the country was at just after the July 4th holiday weekend, prior to the big summer surge. This has public health experts concerned that the country is heading for a third spike. “We have a baseline of infections that vary between 40 and 50 thousand per day,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, told CNBC’s Shepard Smith yesterday . “That’s a bad place to be when you’re going into the cooler weather of the fall and the colder weather of the winter.” Meanwhile, domestic air travel has been ticking up, too. Last month, the Transportation Security … [Read more...] about Travel Alert: Covid-19 Cases Are Back To July Levels, And Rising Fast

June 20, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image. Just shy of a landmark 200 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses, the shots administered in India against coronavirus are now about to surpass the total doses given in all of Europe and North America combined. According to Our World in Data, India has now administered 1.95 billion shots against COVID-19 while this number is 1.29 billion in the case of Europe, 592.27 million in the case of the United States and 85.91 million in case of Canada. This feat, interestingly, has been achieved despite the fact that the government’s push for booster doses for a large chunk of the population is yet to pick up the momentum. The CoWIN dashboard, maintained by the Union government shows that as on June 20, 5.30 pm 1,96,17,60,546 vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been administered in India. Of these, 1,57, 07, 56, 208 doses are that of Covishield, followed by 32, 85, 70, 413 doses of Covaxin. The rest of the doses are of other vaccines against coronavirus including … [Read more...] about COVID-19 shots administered in India about to overtake count in all of Europe, North America

Indigo case: Airlines should sensitise staff to assist special needs flyers better

May 12, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

An IndiGo staffer called a distressed teen with disability a threat to other passengers. (Screengrab from video posted on Facebook by Manisha Gupta). It will not be long before the outrage dies down around the recent incident of private airlines IndiGo barring a specially-abled child from boarding a flight at the Ranchi airport, when things will go back to the usual, where most of us will continue to ignore and fail to acknowledge that everyday there are scores of people with disabilities who will continue to face indignity, humiliation and discrimination. The Ranchi incident, while shocking, is perhaps not far from the everyday reality that persons with disabilities (PwD) face every day in India. We must admit that we are not a country that supports the 26 million people living with either physical or learning disabilities. We have almost zero infrastructure that aids people with disabilities to help them face the stigma, discrimination and harassment that they tend to face on a … [Read more...] about Indigo case: Airlines should sensitise staff to assist special needs flyers better
