Jokowi to visit Ukraine, Russia to discuss food crisis
- A + A (June 22): Indonesian President Joko Widodo will head to Kyiv and Moscow to push for peace and discuss the global food crisis partly caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Jokowi, as the president is popularly known, will be the first Asian leader to visit the countries since the war began, said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. The visits will take place after he attends the Group of Seven meeting in Germany on June 26-28. “President Jokowi is choosing to try to contribute, instead of choosing to be quiet,” Marsudi said in a press briefing on Wednesday. London (CNN Business) President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia is rerouting trade to "reliable international partners" such as Brazil, India, China and South Africa as the West attempts to sever economic ties. "We are actively engaged in reorienting our trade flows and foreign economic contacts towards reliable international partners, primarily the BRICS countries," Putin said in his opening video address to the participants of the virtual BRICS Summit . The "BRICS" acronym refers to an informal grouping of the five developing economies. No purchase of coal from Russia after April 20: Tata Steel
File image Tata Steel has not made any purchase of PCI coal from Russia post its April announcement of severing business ties with Russia amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, a company spokesperson said on June 22. On April 20, Tata Steel had said it would stop doing business with Russia. To ensure business continuity, all its steel manufacturing sites in India, the UK and the Netherlands have sourced alternative supplies of raw materials to end its dependence on Russia. "Tata Steel would like to issue a clarification in view of the incorrect information floating around in some sections of the media with respect to the buying/importing of coal from Russia," the spokesperson said. A deal for supply of 75,000 tonne of PCI coal was finalised in March 2022 and the contract became effective weeks before Tata Steel’s April announcement. New York (CNN Business) Nike is the latest Western brand to leave Russia . In a statement, the clothing manufacturer said that it has "made the decision to leave the Russian marketplace" and that its "priority is to ensure we are fully supporting our employees while we responsibly scale down our operations over the coming months." Nike ( NKE ) also posted a note on its official Russian website telling visitors its website and mobile app will "no longer be available in this region" and that its stores "will not reopen." It had about 100 stores in the country. Shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in March, Nike suspended online and franchised store sales in Russia. However, its non-franchised stores continued to operate. Nike said in a recent earnings call that its business in both Russia and Ukraine represents less than 1% of its total revenue.
