Influencer marketing, if done right, is highly rewarding in terms of consumer connect and brand building but it can cause severe damage to brands if it is not well planned and thought through in terms of influencer selection and promotions. (Representational image: George Pagan via Unsplash) Claiming that self-regulation has not yielded results in making platforms safe spaces for women and marginalised groups, Bengaluru-based IT for Change, a non-governmental organisation working on internet governance, gender, and digital justice, has said that a law should be brought in to hold social media platforms liable for online harm. This comes at a time when the Union government is proposing a separate committee to give users an avenue to appeal decisions made by grievance redressal officers of intermediaries like Twitter, Google, Meta, and others. The government has also said that it is open to the establishment of an industry-formed self-regulatory body to deal with such appeals. … [Read more...] about India needs legislation to hold platforms liable for online harms: IT for Change

India at 75: When ‘Indians weren’t allowed to sit while waiting for British officials’. Harsh Goenka shares ‘certificate’
Harsh Goenka and the Kursi Nashin certificate he shared on Twitter. Independence Day is just a day away but celebrations are already underway in several parts of the country. It's been 75 years since the country gained freedom from the British colonial rule and in the spirit of that Independence, industrialist Harsh Goenka shared the photo of a certificate which allowed an Indian to sit while waiting for British officials. Titled "Kursi Nashin", the document issued in "Delhi district" in July of 1887 certified that "Ram Narsim, son of Shed Parshad, being an accepted Kursi Nashin of this district, is entitled the courtesy of a Seat when visiting Officials and Gentlemen." The certificate was issued and authorised by the Deputy Commissioner and bore his office's stamp. "In the pre-independence days, Indians were not allowed to sit on the chair while waiting for a British official unless he had this certificate. Do reflect... those who take our independence for granted!" Harsh … [Read more...] about India at 75: When ‘Indians weren’t allowed to sit while waiting for British officials’. Editor Daily Rundown: Leftists Seek To ‘Blockade’ Supreme Court
DEMS DONE WITH JOE… NYT: Should Biden Run in 2024? Democratic Whispers of ‘No’ Start to Rise. Interviews with nearly 50 Democratic officials, from county leaders to members of Congress, as well as with disappointed voters who backed Mr. Biden in 2020, reveal a party alarmed about Republicans’ rising strength and extraordinarily pessimistic about an immediate path forward. “To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,” said Steve Simeonidis, a Democratic National Committee member from Miami. Mr. Biden, he said, “should announce his intent not to seek re-election in ’24 right after the midterms.” […] “The presidency is a monstrously taxing job and the stark reality is the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term, and that would be a major issue,” said David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s two winning presidential campaigns. Cliff once again delivers his passion, wisdom, empathy and thoughtfulness on his stunning new collection, Refugees . Kendall Jenner Announces New 818 Tequila Launch—Here’s What You Need To Know
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s the shot heard around the spirits world. Kendall Jenner posted on her social media this afternoon, confirming that she is behind start-up spirits brand 818 Tequila. “For almost 4 years, I’ve been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila,” she wrote on her Instagram , alongside videos of tasting and parties with her friends. The tequila, in a savvy marketing move, was submitted anonymously to spirits competitions... and it won the 2020 World’s Best Reposado title from the World Tequila Awards. The judges raved that the spirit had “an earthy nose which hints at pecan pie, sweet potato and caramel. A sweet and smoky body with some oaky influence, vanilla, and more sweetness on the finish as cinnamon ice cream comes through.” The submitting party was named as K & Soda. 818’s Anejo also picked up a title from the World Tequila Awards, a bronze medal and the laudatory tasting notes: “The nose brings … [Read more...] about Kendall Jenner Announces New 818 Tequila Launch—Here’s What You Need To Know
The ‘gift’ of the pandemic to Anne Curtis as mom and wife
Anne Curtis Each parent has his or her own unique journey, according to new mom Anne Curtis. “When it comes to parenting, what you do won’t always be right in the eyes of others, but it’s the right way for you. This is the best parenting tip I’ve received from my own mom. I think what she is trying to say is, you’re not the perfect parent, no one is, so don’t let what other people say affect you,” declared the mom of 2-year-old Dahlia Amelie. The wife of vlogger and restaurateur Erwan Heussaff also claimed that she is a “super hands-on” mom and wife. “I think that’s the gift of having to go through the series of lockdowns because of the pandemic; it really gave me an opportunity to focus on being a mother and a wife,” she pointed out. With her husband being half-French, Anne said she would apply “a mix of both Filipino and French parenting styles. Also, when I talk to Dahlia, I speak Tagalog, English, and also French. Sometimes, she would speak in Taglish, like ‘can I upo … [Read more...] about The ‘gift’ of the pandemic to Anne Curtis as mom and wife

“Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin?” This year’s 18th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival Top 3 box-office hits, or those that did well in terms of ticket sales during their 10-day run at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), can look forward to receiving an added “bonus.” “It’s a tradition in Cinemalaya to reserve the last few slots at the tailend of the festival for these films. This is the only concession of Cinemalaya to commercialism,” according to festival director Chris Millado. At the recent the Cinemalaya Chairman’s Dinner, Millado announced that festival films have been shown in commercial cinemas since Aug. 10, particularly in Ayala and SM Malls in cities such as Clark, Naga, Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro. The festival ended last Aug. 14. Ma-an Asuncion-Dagnalan’s “The Blue Room,” which stars Elijah Canlas and JK Labajo, topped the race after it showed “very good returns from its premiere, and with a very good following from the Gen Z audience,” Millado said. … [Read more...] about ‘Added’ bonus for Cinemalaya’s Top 3 box-office hits
