Supreme Court The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear during the day itself the appeal of the Indian Olympic Association challenging the Delhi High Court direction for setting up of a three-member Committee of Administrators (COA) to take over the affairs of the sports body. A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana took note of the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the appointment of the CoA may lead to the Association's suspension by the International Olympic Committee as it happened in the case of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently. The bench agreed to hear the appeal of the IOA during the day after finishing the hearing of listed matters. The Delhi High Court on August 16 had ordered the setting up of a three-member CoA to manage the affairs of the IOA. How To Pay for and Access a Legal Abortion

August 17, 2022 by www.investopedia.com

In Dobbs v. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the half-century-old precedent that guaranteed federal abortion protections. After the controversial June decision, the matter was kicked back to the states, leading to a tangle of laws. It’s an ever-evolving landscape. Cost varies. Abortions are less expensive in the first trimester than later in the pregnancy. According to Planned Parenthood, the procedure can cost up to $750 in the first trimester, though it’s often less, and that amount climbs up to $1,500 later in the pregnancy. According to the latest available data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Abortion Surveillance System, the vast majority of abortions happen in the first trimester, with 92.7% occurring at or before 13 weeks of gestation, which is the beginning of the second trimester. However, as discussed below, advocates say that sending the matter to the states has increased costs in some circumstances, potentially putting … [Read more...] about How To Pay for and Access a Legal Abortion

(INQUIRER/LYN RILLON) MANILA, Philippines — A lawyer fined a total of P20,360 for traffic violations in Manila filed before the Supreme Court (SC) a petition, which is the second the high court received thus far, to stop the no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP). Lawyer Juman Paa, in his petition, urged the SC to declare unconstitutional Manila City Ordinance 8676 series of 2020. In addition, while the case is still pending, he asked the SC to issue a restraining order against NCAP’s implementation. The City of Manila started implementing NCAP under Ordinance 8676 in December 2020. CCTVs were installed around Manila, so traffic violators would be fined without physical contact. August 18, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Hadi Matar, 24. stabbed author Salman Rushdie at a lecture in New York on August 12. The New Jersey man accused of stabbing Salman Rushdie told the New York Post in an interview published Wednesday that he was "surprised" the author had survived the attack. "When I heard he survived, I was surprised, I guess," Hadi Matar , 24, told the tabloid, which said they held a video interview with the jailed suspect. The suspected assailant, who has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges, did not say whether he was inspired by the 1989 edict, or fatwa, issued under Iran's former supreme leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, that ordered Muslims to kill the writer for what he deemed the blasphemous nature of the book " The Satanic Verses ." "I respect the ayatollah. I think he's a great person. That's as far as I will say about that," said Matar, who according to the Post was advised by his lawyer not to discuss the issue.
