“Westworld” is officially back, and the season four premiere was surprisingly good. Season three aired back in 2020, and it feels like it’s been a lifetime since we’ve had new episodes. Given the clunky nature of season three and the huge pause before the latest premiere, it’s reasonable to worry about what we’re going to get. Is she a host? Is she a real person? Honestly, I don’t have a clue, and I think that’s the point. What we know is that Christina either knows more than she’s letting … [Read more...] about REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Gets Back On The Right Track With Its Season 4 Premiere

Women With Long Covid Are More Likely To Suffer From Mood And Gastrointestinal Disorders Than Men
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While the world grappled with the uncertainties as the Covid-19 pandemic unfurled since early 2020, one thing became clear: a portion of people who recovered from Covid-19 continued to experience new or exacerbated symptoms that lasted for several weeks or months on end. Also known as long Covid syndrome, it is characterized by extreme fatigue, low mood, pulmonary fibrosis, shortness of breath, insomnia, diabetes, and memory issues, among other complications. The causes of long Covid still remain hazy. Some studies say it may develop thanks to higher levels of antibodies that the immune system generates to fight the SARS-CoV-2 virus while others claim the virus causes sustained damages in certain types of patients. A new study published in the journal Current Medical Research and Opinion , has found that long Covid is not only far more likely to afflict women as compared to their male counterparts, but they will also … [Read more...] about Women With Long Covid Are More Likely To Suffer From Mood And Gastrointestinal Disorders Than Men
Staffing Marketplace Nomad Health Raises $105 Million As It Expands Beyond Travel Nurses
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin W hen Alexi Nazem was a hospital doctor, he faced a mountain of paperwork and bureaucratic hurdles anytime he wanted to moonlight outside his hospital. For healthcare professionals side gigs like these are common, so why should the process be so burdensome? Inspired by the possibility of applying the concept of other online marketplaces like AirBnB to healthcare temping, he and four cofounders (including AlleyCorp founder Kevin Ryan) launched Nomad Health in 2015. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Nomad saw explosive growth as hospitals, already facing nursing shortages, raced to fill roles in overburdened ICUs around the country. While the pandemic has (hopefully) peaked and travel nursing pay rates are receding from all-time highs, the underlying shift of much more of the healthcare workforce engaged in temporary rather than full-time roles is expected to continue. “One of the most important lessons that we've learned … [Read more...] about Staffing Marketplace Nomad Health Raises $105 Million As It Expands Beyond Travel Nurses
When in Rome, Drink Like A Roman
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Go off the beaten path and drink local with the locals Like all major European capitals, Rome’s touristy neighborhoods are hard to avoid or, sometimes, resist. After a journey of missed connections, jumbled travel directions and mangled language if you’re not an Italian speaker, it’s tempting to fall into a neighborhood like Trastevere, where English is widely spoken and familiar menu items can entice you to give in and settle for something comfortable. But, don’t. If you want to eat and drink like a Roman, get off the beaten track. Just across the river, the adjoining historically working-class neighborhoods of Testaccio and Ostiense have bloomed in the past decade, becoming destinations for more authentic eating and drinking. They’re no secret to the well-traveled set or frequent visitors to Rome, but you’ll see few fanny-packers, selfie sticks and white sneakers here. Take the subway ( Metropolitana ) to the … [Read more...] about When in Rome, Drink Like A Roman
A Mystery Rocket Left A Crater On The Moon
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While we think of the moon as a static place, sometimes an event happens that reminds us that things can change quickly. On March 4, a human-made object (a rocket stage) slammed into the moon and left behind a double crater, as seen by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission. Officials announced June 23 that they spotted a double crater associated with the event. But what’s really interesting is there’s no consensus about what kind of rocket caused it. China has denied claims that the rocket was part of a Long March 3 rocket that launched the country’s Chang’e-5 T1 mission in October 2014, although the orbit appeared to match. Previous speculation suggested it might be from a SpaceX rocket launching the DISCOVR mission, but newer analysis has mostly discredited that. On a broader scale, the value of LRO observations like this is showing how the moon can change even over a small span of time. The … [Read more...] about A Mystery Rocket Left A Crater On The Moon
Security Flaw In Strava, A Social Fitness App, Exposed Identities Of Israeli Soldiers At Military Bases
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin S everal years ago, Strava, a data-hungry, fitness-cum-social network app, published a heatmap showing every activity ever logged, over 3 trillion data points. Neat, right? It was. Problematic, too. The visualization appeared to give away the location of secret U.S. Army bases and spy outposts in locations like Afghanistan and Syria. The company caught a lot of flack for the heatmap, and in response, San Francisco-headquartered Strava published a blog post urging users to review their privacy settings and said it would review “features that were originally designed for athlete motivation and inspiration to ensure they cannot be compromised by people with bad intent.” It has never elaborated further on what features it reviewed nor say whether the review prompted any specific changes. In other words: Everything is fine , Strava seemed to promise. Ah, well. A new report from FakeReporter, a group of Israeli … [Read more...] about Security Flaw In Strava, A Social Fitness App, Exposed Identities Of Israeli Soldiers At Military Bases
How A Tech Startup Attracted 7,500 Job Applicants Using TikTok Videos
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What would you do if you had 7,500 applicants for jobs at your company? Most of us would feel a bit overwhelmed, but then we’d start trying to figure out how so many people decided to apply. If you’re Apple or Tesla it makes sense; for a small startup with about 250 employees that makes a sales scheduling app, it was quite a shocking discovery. The reason it all worked so well? They posted a handful of TikTok videos, then watched as many of them went viral. Now, before you scoff at that and come to the conclusion that there must have been a dancing bear telling jokes or a celebrity like Ryan Gosling involved, the truth is even more puzzling. A startup called Chili Piper posted videos of real employees acting like real people, often with a trending song in the background and a few well-placed captions. “People engage with our TikTok videos because they showcase the perks of fully remote work and because we are … [Read more...] about How A Tech Startup Attracted 7,500 Job Applicants Using TikTok Videos
1/OFF Paris: 400% Growth For The Upcycled Fashion Brand Taking Sustainability To Luxury’s Eco-Apathetic
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the biggest challenges for any purpose-led brand pursuing game-changer status isn’t breeding a fanbase who ‘get it’ but selling a vital new narrative to the hardcore apathetic. For fashion, mired in climate crisis and battling the clock to cultivate a circular economy, retuning fans’ mindsets (America throws away and 2150 pieces of clothing every second and even people with positive eco intentions are loathe to sacrifice what they perceive as an identify-defining hobby ) is now mission imperative. Dutch fashion brand 1/OFF Paris, whose couturiers splice together or respectfully reinterpret iconic vintage garments to create ultra-covetable new pieces (think: a Levi’s denim jacket with Chanel’s quintessential ladies-who-lunch tweed; double layered jeans; or two oversized classic men’s blazers tailored into a freshly feminized silhouette) is doing just that. Selling to an audience including legions of the … [Read more...] about 1/OFF Paris: 400% Growth For The Upcycled Fashion Brand Taking Sustainability To Luxury’s Eco-Apathetic
Why Brandalism Has Become A Luxury Brand’s New Best Friend
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With the blueprint for luxury fashion retail sprouting unprecedented new contours - fueled both by streetwear’s freshly gilded edge and millennials’ disregard for heritage without innovation, edge or obvious purpose - it’s perhaps unsurprising that an appreciation of off-piste brand behavior is booming. From bastardized logos to rough and ready email marketing - galvanized by a coterie of potshot-taking Insta-famous artists that are even buddying up with the brands they satirize - subverting or dismantling formerly sacred brand codes is swiftly becoming a fast-track to modernity While a respect for heritage (as we traditionally know it) isn’t dead, it’s certainly no longer solely enough to satisfy younger, ‘digitally native’ luxury appetites, who according to a globally-reaching 2017 survey by Deloitte have more impulsive spending habits than ever before ( almost 20% buy simply to treat themselves ) and regard quality and … [Read more...] about Why Brandalism Has Become A Luxury Brand’s New Best Friend
Zalando Joins Forces With Save Your Wardrobe To Chase Net Positive Fashion Ambition
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When it comes to sustainability and fashion, particularly the fast variety, it would be an understatement to say the industry has a few problems. First and foremost, fast fashion is the third biggest polluter globally , with textile production contributing more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined . But there’s also the more shadowy and therefore dangerous misperception that the spending behemoth of Gen Z has been molded in a wholly Thunbergian image; despite a considerably raised bar of eco-intentions the infamous specter of the values-actions gap (the disparity between what people say they value/will do vs. what happens when it comes to the crunch) reveals a very different story. Zalando’s Reality Check Fuels Partnership Affirming this, in April this year German multinational e-commerce giant Zalando (45m active consumers, 23 markets and 4500 brands including 300 designer labels) … [Read more...] about Zalando Joins Forces With Save Your Wardrobe To Chase Net Positive Fashion Ambition
