In articles of impeachment introduced on Monday, Trump is formally charged with “incitement of insurrection,” and accused of “inciting violence against the Government of the United States.” A floor debate is due to convene this morning (Wednesday, January 13), followed by a vote. The move has support from House Democrats as well as a handful of Republicans, and would mark the first time in history that a U.S. president has been impeached twice. … [Read more...] about How to watch the Trump impeachment vote on CNN, PBS, and elsewhere live without cable

Smart talking points: What happens next with President Trump’s impeachment?
Why’d he do that? Truth: The impeachment trial is a splitting headache for McConnell, who is 78 years old. Trump is a member of his party, and his party is staunchly divided on the impeachment. Plus, he would be the public face of the damn thing, in the sunset days of his role as Senate majority leader. It isn’t particularly graceful from that angle. And what’s worse is it meets the sky in this real rinky-dink way. Richard Daley, the mayor, ordered Trump to put a spire on it. Trump being Trump did it, but in the cheapest way possible. He put up this little itty bitty thin spire. Compared to the Chrysler Building it’s a joke. It’s a really weak spire. He just totally wimped out on it. To Trump’s credit, the building has a very nice curtain wall, a blend of glass and stainless steel fins on the exterior. That wasn’t cheap. … [Read more...] about Architecture criticism matters more than ever, according to a critic bullied by Trump

In fact, not long after the late civil rights leader made his most famous speech, at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in August 1963, a memo circulating around the FBI called him “the most dangerous Negro of the future in this Nation,” and urged the bureau to “use every resource at our disposal to destroy him.” … [Read more...] about The damning ‘MLK/FBI’ doc shows how poorly Martin Luther King Jr. was treated in his time
