When nations declare adversity onto each other, there is a lapse of time between the declaration of intention and commencement of hostilities. Implementation can take anywhere from months to years. The Brexit discussions are a major example of such conditions. Code yellow conditions are now in place between Europe and Britain. My wife and I visited England to explore the current and future status of the country. Evensong in Canterbury Cathedral, seat of the archbishop, is very British, well attended, firm, strong and uplifting. There are definite advantages to singing one’s prayers. The British production of Jersey Boys was another listening adventure, packed house, lots of fun, energetic singing done well. In London, no signs of fear or concern. St. Martin’s in-the-Field did not disappoint with renditions of Mozart at candlelight by a Russian pianist. Trafalgar square was humming and buzzing late into the night as usual. Sticking together while exercising simple precautions is … [Read more...] about OPINION: Post-Brexit Conditions Have Yet To Become Hostile. Will The UK Remain Peaceful?

Some excerpts from the chat: "I'll just put it this way to summarize the intention of artificial intelligence. Particularly AGI (artificial general intelligence) has always been to eliminate humans from the workforce. That has always been the intention of AI." "Techno unemployment will either produce one of two effects, either it will create social unrest and the collapse of society based on unsustainable levels of human unemployment. " "How we deal with this transition to a highly automated society and removing humans from the essential role of human capital to keep the economy going instead of computers." "From an employment perspective, in an highly automated society climate change mitigation is the only real growth industry that's going to require human capital to respond." "The core principles of economic theory are changing. What is the economy for- in a highly automated society, is the economy there to create GDP growth or full employment. Bloomberg filepix for illustration purpose only. - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): Malaysia’s Maritime industry had a mixed development in 2022, with the shipping business slowly steaming in rough waters, attempting to recover from the hard knocks of the Covid-19 pandemic, and rebuilding it amid a lack of directional stability. However, the ports have started gaining momentum. The Malaysian ports, especially those with greater exposure to the global supply chain, are seen to be consistently improving their efficiency and capacity to compete with regional players, while simultaneously embedding digitalisation. Shipping: Change the direction, rationalise target The Malaysian Shipping Masterplan (MSMP) 2017-2022 was launched five years ago and is due for a review, but the industry is still falling short of its targets. This, coupled with the pandemic that wrecked the supply chain, has left the industry in limbo, or at least directionless. According to a source from … [Read more...] about Malaysian shipping struggling to catch up, while ports ‘anchor aweigh’ from troubled waters

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Can the Cubs take Dansby Swanson away from the Braves? That would be a huge step forward for Jed Hoyer and the rest of Tom Ricketts’ front office, which has been in retreat mode since declining to extend Joe Maddon’s contract after missing the playoffs in 2019. The Cubs have been widely linked to the pursuit of the big four shortstops. But it is one thing to pursue players like Carlos Correa, Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts and Swanson, and another thing to sign them, especially given the quantity — and quality — of competition in the pursuit. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman does not view the Cubs as one of the top options for Correa, Turner or Bogaerts but ranks the Cubs as a favorite to sign Swanson, with the Braves given a decent chance to retain him. Swanson helped the Braves beat Houston in the 2021 World Series, homering twice. He has hit 54 regular-season and postseason home runs the last two seasons while … [Read more...] about Signing Dansby Swanson Would Speak Loudly For Cubs’ Credibility
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Texas Rangers have a free agent contract deal in place with right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom, one of Major League Baseball’s most prominent starting pitchers. After pitching his entire big league career with the New York Mets, deGrom became a free agent after this past season. The Rangers signed deGrom, 34, to a five-year, guaranteed contract worth $185M. The deal also includes a full no-trade clause and a conditional option for the 2028 season. If that option is exercised, deGrom’s contract value will be $222M. “We are thrilled that Jacob deGrom has decided to become a Texas Ranger” stated Rangers general manager, Chris Young. According to MLB.com, the Mets did not put a “best and final” offer in front of deGrom. The signing of deGrom does not come without risk. Arm and elbow injuries have been part of deGrom’s professional career. In 2010, deGrom underwent Tommy John surgery. He did not pitch in … [Read more...] about Rewards Likely Outweigh The Risks As Texas Rangers Sign Jacob deGrom

- A + A (Dec 3): Russia "will not accept" a price cap on its oil and is analysing how to respond, the Kremlin said in comments reported on Saturday, in response to a deal by Western powers aimed at limiting a key source of funding for its war in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow had made preparations for Friday's price cap announcement by the Group of Seven nations, the European Union and Australia, the Russian state news agency TASS reported. "We will not accept this cap," RIA news agency quoted him as saying. He added that Russia would conduct a rapid analysis of the agreement and respond after that, RIA reported. Russia has repeatedly said it will not supply oil to countries that implement the cap — a stance reaffirmed by Mikhail Ulyanov, Moscow's ambassador to international organisations in Vienna, in posts on social media on Saturday. "Starting from this year, Europe will live without Russian oil," he said. The G7 price cap will … [Read more...] about Russia says it won’t accept oil price cap and is preparing response
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 1983, six years after Mission was founded, the British loudspeaker maker launched its first integrated stereo amplifier. The 778’s case was narrower than most hi-fi amps of the time and it received acclaim for its build quality and circuitry. Users loved its simple controls and appreciated the good range of inputs. The price was relatively affordable and the sound matched Mission’s speakers perfectly. A year later, Mission launched the Cyrus sub-brand for its amps and, eventually, other audio electronics so that Mission could focus solely on loudspeakers. Therefore, the 778 was the only integrated amp branded as a Mission product… until now. Mission is ready to launch another integrated amp under its own brand. The new 778X shares much in common with its ancestor of 40 years ago. It still features a compact, half-width design with a sound that belies its compact footprint. Like the original model, it has a useful range … [Read more...] about Classic British Brand Mission Unveils First Amplifier In 40 Years
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Fortnite is about to end Chapter 3 about a year earlier than chapters normally end with a big finale event called Fracture . That will launch the beginning of Chapter 4, along with a whole new map and a bunch of other changes coming to the game, the most recent rumor I heard was…motorcycles. So, what time does the Fortnite Chapter 3 Fracture event go live? That would be today, Saturday December 3rd at 4 PM ET. Other times: UK: 9 PM (GMT) Europe: 10 PM (CET) West Coast US: 1 PM (PT) Chapter 4 should begin some time early the next morning (ET) after downtime, so far as we know. Epic has told players that they should log in 30 minutes before the event start, but unlike past “one time only events,” you can still enter into it up to 40 minutes after it starts while it’s still in progress. The implication there is that it may be as much as 40 minutes long, but it’s not quite clear how this works, whether … [Read more...] about Here’s The Exact Time Fortnite’s Chapter 3 ‘Fracture’ Event Goes Live
