When £53.5m is spent on a project, including £43m from the public’s pocket, and there is literally nothing to show for it, some very fundamental questions have to be answered. I fundamentally disagree with the Charity Commission washing its hands and taking no further action against the Garden Bridge Trust, as no charity should spend public money in the way the Trust did. There are also senior people at Transport for London who still have very serious questions to answer. But the person most responsible for the utter folly of this failed project is Boris Johnson. He allowed the rules over tendering for the design to be stretched. The charity watchdog has been criticised for failing to take action against the people behind the failed Garden Bridge project that cost taxpayers £43m. The Charity Commission’s inquiry into the conduct of the Garden Bridge Trust, whose members included the actor Joanna Lumley and PR tycoon Roland Rudd, found that botched bridge project across the River Thames was an “expensive failure” that has undermined public trust in the charity sector. On Tuesday morning, TxDOT tweeted about a "Harbor Bridge milestone." "(The) first concrete pre-cast segment moved to the project site today," according to the tweet. The Philippines and China have signed a $13.4-million grant agreement for the feasibility study of a proposed bridge that will link the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros in the Visayas. In a statement on Friday, the Department of Finance (DoF) said the Exchange of Letters for the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridge Project was signed by China International Development Cooperation Agency (Cidca) Chairman Wang Xiaotao and Public Works Secretary Mark Villar during a meeting in Beijing last week.
