After two years of enduring masks, social distancing and quarantines, there's not much that can come between consumers and their summer vacations this year. Outbreaks of Covid-19 no longer seem to stop them from traveling — and based on recent demand for air travel, neither do higher prices for getaways. But while consumers may have gotten over fears of Covid, the economy is still riddled with its impacts — including high fuel prices , disrupted supply chains, and a labor market filled with workers hoping to work at least part of the time from home. For airlines, busy summer travel is turning into a season of operational … [Read more...] about Opinion: Airlines are facing pressure from all directions

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
Nintendo has impeccable timing. Just when Animal Crossing: New Horizons was on the verge of going stale with the lack of new content, the developer recently announced a July 3 update that adds major new features. The most obvious one is swimming and diving. It’s an option that appeared previously in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch title. Players will need to grab a wet suit so they can swim and dive around their islands. Players can’t go far but they can hug the coast and find new sea creatures to add to their museum and perhaps terrify Blathers. Along with swimming, Pascal, a red sea otter, will make an appearance in New Horizons . He loves scallops and if players find one, they can trade it to him for mermaid-themed crafting recipes. Lastly, Gulliver has a wardrobe change. He's dressed more like a pirate and helping him will get players a special reward. Although his tasks to find his communicator pieces are redundant at times, … [Read more...] about ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
MOH receives 528 complaints on bogus dental practitioners
Reuters filepix for illustration purpose only - A + A KUALA NERUS (June 29): The Ministry of Health (MOH) received a total of 528 complaints on illegal dental practitioners throughout the country from 2017 to 2021. MOH senior director (Dental Health) Dr Noormi Othman said of these complaints, 377 or 71.4% involved fake braces; 58 (11%) on dental veneers (crowns) and 93 (19.6%) on dentures, tooth extraction and teeth whitening. "The number of complaints rose between 2017 and 2019 but decreased during the 2020-2021 period. The drop might be due to increasing public awareness of bogus dentists or enforcement of the Movement Control Order (PKP) which restricted their activities. "However, we are concerned that the transition to the endemic phase will see their activities rising again," she told reporters, adding that Kuala Lumpur and Selangor recorded the highest number of complaints. Earlier, Dr Noormi launched the "Say No To Fake Dentist!" 2022 campaign, … [Read more...] about MOH receives 528 complaints on bogus dental practitioners

Should Cypark shareholders be worried?
This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on June 13, 2022 - June 19, 2022. - A + A STARTING out as a waste management and environmental company before venturing into the renewable energy (RE) space, Cypark Resources Bhd has been the proxy for the RE theme play, given its exposure to the niche landfill-sanitisation market and the fact that it is the only company of its kind in Malaysia. While there have been ups and downs for Cypark since it was listed about 12 years ago, the last three weeks have been arguably the most challenging period for the company, which intends to convert solid waste into electricity. Its share price plunged 55% to 31 sen on June 10, from 69 sen on May 20. Concerns have been raised over the delays of Cypark’s ongoing projects, including its floating solar plant in Tasik Danau Tok Uban (DTU) in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, and its solid waste modular advance recovery and treatment waste-to-energy (SMART WTE) plant in Ladang … [Read more...] about Should Cypark shareholders be worried?

Opinion: Why so many workers are still quitting their jobs
Dana Peterson is an executive vice president and chief economist at The Conference Board. The opinions expressed in this commentary are her own. Aside from, "You're on mute," "I quit" has likely become one of the most popular sayings in the US over the last two years. So why are so many workers quitting? Here are four factors driving the so-called "Great Resignation" — and what businesses have been doing to stem the tide. Money Higher wages are among the many reasons that workers quit their jobs today.
