March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Best-selling fantasy author Neil Gaiman ( Sandman, Good Omens, American Gods ) famously got his start in the medium of comics, where collaboration between writer and artist is necessary to create the final story. Over the years, he has worked with a range of talented visual partners, from Sandman co-creator Sam Keith to Japanese fine artist Yoshitaka Amano. Now a new show at New York’s Society of Illustrators explores Gaiman’s decades-long association with artist Colleen Doran , and how the two storytellers bring out the best in one another. The show is part of the MoCCA Arts Fest , an art and comics expo taking place in New York April 1-2. “What makes their collaboration so interesting is how Colleen does so many different things depending on the tone and direction of the story,” said curator Kim Munson. “There are so many visual references and touchpoints, and so much range to her style.” Doran started her … [Read more...] about New Exhibit Showcases How Artist Colleen Doran Illuminates The Work Of Neil Gaiman

Here’s What Happened When This Massive Country Banned TikTok

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline India banned TikTok in June 2020 citing national security concerns after a military clash with China, opening the door for Instagram to dominate and some TikTok duplicates to suddenly emerge as major players in the vacated market. Key Facts Shortly after India banned TikTok, Instagram saw a surge of downloads, propelling it to become the country’s most popular social media app by 2021, up from No. 6 in 2019, and to surpass TikTok in global downloads by the fourth quarter of 2021. Key to Instagram’s success in India was Reels, its algorithm-based, endlessly scrolling vertical video feed that closely resembles TikTok’s For You Page and other TikTok copycats like YouTube Shorts and Snapchat Spotlight. Both Instagram and YouTube bet on Shorts and Reels as potential TikTok alternatives: They tested these features in India after the country banned TikTok before launching them worldwide. … [Read more...] about Here’s What Happened When This Massive Country Banned TikTok

Mystic Mariner: Reid Stowe’s Monumental, Spiritual Narratives Of Solo Life At Sea Take The Art World By Storm

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Masked and obscured figures, some with elongated necks, peek through an intricate, abstracted, multimedia narrative that hints at a nautical, contemporary re-imagining of Henri Rousseau’s lush, fantastical jungles. Bold orange and oceanic blue lines mingle with halyard to guide our eye around the massive canvas, a repurposed sailcloth that’s weathered fierce storms across continents and harbors stories of spiritual enlightenment. At more than nine-feet high and more than 14-feet wide, Reid Stowe’s Untitled - Sail floods a back wall at Chase Contemporary 's spacious SoHo, New York, flagship. A full room of the gallery is transformed into a decades-long journey into the singular life and transcendent visions of the 71-year-old coastal North Carolina native, who logged a staggering 1,152 consecutive days at sea and worked alongside masters such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, who gifted Stowe a portrait in 1985. Why China’s COVID Comeback Is Still In The Early Innings, With Upside Ahead

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When you unshackle 1.4 billion consumers who have been penned up at home for three years, it’s reasonable to expect some fireworks. For the residents of Mainland China, life under “zero COVID” policies was a dreary round of rolling travel restrictions and lockdowns – as if the United States was permanently stuck on a skipping record of the Spring of 2020. While most of the population was able to find a way to get back to work eventually, the everyday routines of travel, dining out, and visiting friends and family were severely curtailed. Wallets stayed snapped shut. Since China executed its “COVID pivot” in late December 2022, economists have been scrutinizing the data to see if the country will be able to achieve its goal of 5% growth in 2023. If achieved, China will serve as an engine to help developed economies avoid tipping into recession. This is particularly relevant in the new era of higher interest rates, … [Read more...] about Why China’s COVID Comeback Is Still In The Early Innings, With Upside Ahead

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Aaron White is the CTO and Co-founder of Vendr. A serial entrepreneur, Aaron is based in Miami, Florida. A cyborg is defined as “a person whose physiological functioning is aided by or dependent upon a mechanical or electronic device.” Just like the cyborgs from sci-fi novels and films, a successful organization is made up of people aided by machines. As businesses shift more responsibility and production to the technology-led side of the equation, acquiring truly efficient software should take on the same importance as hiring good people. The High Cost Of Finding People Who Make A Difference While Layoffs.fyi tracked over 125,000 lost jobs in the tech space so far this year alone, it's estimated that turnover and replacement costs for an organization with 100 employees making an average of $50,000 can reach $2.6 million annually. An easier approach could be to empower and support the people already on … [Read more...] about Why A Company Is Like A Cyborg, Or The Importance Of Finding The Right People And Choosing The Right Technology
