Three warning signs of a stroke

The Right Path To Incorporating Digital Mental Health Services

May 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In his State of the Union address , President Biden pledged to help “get all Americans the mental health services they need.” The president confirmed what many employers already know: America’s mental health crisis has taken on new urgency as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to drive up rates of depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse and other challenges. Most organizational leaders believe they are stepping up to meet worker needs, but employees don’t necessarily see it that way. According to new research by The Hartford, 82% of employers say their companies have improved access to workplace mental health services in recent years, but only 50% of workers agree. To close that gap – and to help fulfill President Biden’s call – many organizations are turning to digital mental health solutions. As of 2020, the digital mental health market was already robust at around $142 billion in sales. Within five years it’s … [Read more...] about The Right Path To Incorporating Digital Mental Health Services

Govt warns cab aggregators of strict action for unfair trade practices

May 10, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Cab aggregators, including Ola and Uber, have been warned of strict action unless they improve their systems and redress rising consumer complaints, a senior government official said on Tuesday. The government held a meeting on Tuesday with the ride-hailing platforms amid a rise in consumer complaints of alleged unfair trade practices by them, including ride cancellation policy, as drivers force customers to cancel trips after accepting bookings, which results in customers paying cancellation penalties. "We told them about the rising consumer complaints against their platforms. We gave them the statistics also. We have asked them to improve their system and redress the consumer complaints otherwise the competent authority will take strict action," Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said after the meeting. Hinting at the scale of customer unhappiness against the cab aggregators, he said the complaints on the Jago Grahak Jago helpline are just … [Read more...] about Govt warns cab aggregators of strict action for unfair trade practices

‘Copycat’ mass shootings become deadlier, experts warn after New York attack

May 16, 2022 by newsinfo.inquirer.net

Police officers secure the scene after a shooting at TOPS supermarket in Buffalo, New York, U.S. May 14, 2022. REUTERS An 18-year-old white man suspected of fatally shooting 10 people in a Black neighborhood in Buffalo, New York, appears to be the latest in a line of “copycat” gunmen carrying out deadlier mass shootings inspired by previous attackers, experts warned on Sunday. Payton Gendron, who surrendered to police on Saturday after the attack, apparently publicized a racist manifesto on the internet and broadcast the attack in real time on social media platform Twitch, a live video service owned by Amazon.com. Authorities called the mass killing an act of “racially motivated violent extremism.” Experts say the trend of mostly young white men being inspired by previous racist gun massacres is on the rise, citing recent mass shootings, including the 2015 attack at a Black church in Charleston, South Carolina, a 2018 shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh and a 2019 attack at a … [Read more...] about ‘Copycat’ mass shootings become deadlier, experts warn after New York attack

Putin ‘Calm And Cool’ After Learning Finland Will Apply To Join NATO, Finnish President Says

May 15, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Finland will apply for NATO membership, the country’s leaders confirmed Sunday, ending decades of neutrality in a move Russia has condemned as “wrong”—but Russian President Vladimir Putin seemed to take the news calmly, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said . Key Facts Niinistö and other officials prepared a report on Finland’s planned application to NATO that Finland intends to submit after running it by parliament. Finland has remained neutral in conflicts between larger nations since 1948, when it signed a treaty with the Soviet Union prohibiting either country from joining a military alliance against the other. In a Saturday phone call with Niinistö, Putin warned applying to NATO would be “wrong” because “there are no threats to Finland’s security,” and the move could harm relations between the two countries, the Kremlin said. Niinistö told CNN’s State of the Union on … [Read more...] about Putin ‘Calm And Cool’ After Learning Finland Will Apply To Join NATO, Finnish President Says

Why you need to take right-wing comedy seriously

May 10, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

It was one of the more spectacular TV flops of the 21st century. Late in the second term of President George W. Bush, in 2007, Fox News decided that it had the right-wing alternative to Comedy Central’s popular and influential The Daily Show with Jon Stewart . The 1/2 Hour News Hour would puncture liberal pieties and media bias in the fashion that Stewart and his cast of fake correspondents fired barbs at conservatives and right-wing media like Fox News. The show tanked—hard—more or less after the pilot aired in February 2007. And with its failure, modern progressives (and future leftists) had all the evidence they needed: Conservatives weren’t funny. advertisement advertisement For the last 15 years, that take—frequently informed by one failed late-night show—has stuck among anyone who isn’t a conservative. But all the while, right wingers were making comedy—and succeeding. Some of it flew under the radar in subterranean clubs and YouTube channels, … [Read more...] about Why you need to take right-wing comedy seriously

Britt Frank is a licensed psychotherapist, trauma specialist, educator, and former addict. She is an award-winning adjunct professor for her time teaching at the University of Kansas. She also speaks and writes widely about achieving and maintaining emotional wellness. advertisement advertisement Below, Frank shares five key insights from her new book, The Science of Stuck: Breaking Through Inertia to Find Your Path Forward . Listen to the audio version—read by Frank herself—in the Next Big Idea App. 1. We need anxiety. People often enter therapy suffering from severe symptoms and think that all they need is to “get rid of” their anxiety. While anxiety can be debilitating and, in some cases, must be medically managed before any other interventions can be applied, trying to get rid of anxiety is as pointless as trying to disable the smoke alarm in your home. When your smoke alarm starts screeching, the noise is uncomfortable and inconvenient, … [Read more...] about There’s no such thing as self-sabotage.
