Three passengers overpowered a man charging train passengers with a knife in Berlin, Germany on Friday, authorities said. The Iraq-born suspect stabbed and wounded five people “randomly and arbitrarily” on a train traveling to the western city, Aachen, state interior minister Herbert Reul said, according to the Associated Press (AP). Authorities were investigating a possible extremist motive behind the attack, which is still under investigation. Police said the wounded victims were all treated at local hospitals and face no life threatening injuries, AP reported. When the stabbing began, three passengers, one being a 31-year-old police officer, overpowered the suspect, the outlet reported. The train had 270 passengers at the time of the incident. Reul said the attack was “a gruesome crime that was stopped in an enormous act of courage,” according to AP. MUMBAI -- India banned wheat exports on Saturday days after saying it was targeting record shipments this year, as a scorching heat wave curtailed output and domestic prices hit a record high. The government said it would still allow exports backed by already issued letters of credit and to countries that request supplies "to meet their food security needs". The move to ban overseas shipments was not in perpetuity and could be revised, senior government officials told a press conference. Global buyers were banking on supplies from the world's second-biggest wheat producer after exports from the Black Sea region plunged following Russia's Feb. 24 attack on Ukraine. Before the ban, India had aimed to ship a record 10 million tonnes this year. The officials added that there was no dramatic fall in wheat output this year, but unregulated exports had led to a rise in local prices. Ten deaths and at least 15 injuries have been confirmed by police after a white van plowed through a crowd Monday in Toronto, Canada. The van reportedly veered off the road, onto the sidewalk, and began hitting pedestrians at around 1:30 p.m., The Star reported . The driver,25-year-old Alek Minassian, was taken into custody after the incident. Initial estimates suggested eight to 10 people were hit by the van, CTV News reported . At least nine people were reported dead, Toronto police officials confirmed in a press conference hours after the incident, according to The Sun. “We can confirm for you tonight right now we have 9 people that are dead, 16 that are injured,” Toronto Police Deputy Chief Peter Yuen said in a press conference.
