Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | MPC plays it safe, more rate hikes coming?

February 8, 2023 by www.moneycontrol.com

The central bank's commentary has a hawkish undertone and suggests that more interest rate hikes cannot be ruled out. Dear Reader, The Panorama newsletter is sent to Moneycontrol Pro subscribers on market days. It offers easy access to stories published on Moneycontrol Pro and gives a little extra by setting out a context or an event or trend that investors should keep track of. The RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee met market expectations by increasing the repo rate by 25 basis points, although it left some prayers unanswered. The fond hope was that the MPC would take its cue from global central banks and announce a pause on rate increases. The consolation is that two of the six MPC members didn’t want to raise rates. Nevertheless, the central bank's commentary has a hawkish undertone and suggests that more interest rate hikes cannot be ruled out. This is against what some global central banks have said. The Bank of Canada became the first central bank in a G10 … [Read more...] about Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | MPC plays it safe, more rate hikes coming?

It’s not just Manchester City. Financial football is becoming more prevalent

February 8, 2023 by www.moneycontrol.com

Hassane Kamara of Watford FC looks dejected following their side's defeat in the Premier League match between Manchester City and Watford at Etihad Stadium on April 23, 2022 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images) Hassane Kamara is a high-octane defender at Watford FC in England. He was the club’s player of the year last season despite only joining in January 2022. He’s also emblematic of the financial engineering available to football clubs through the increasingly popular multi-club ownership model. Watford was relegated from the Premier League last summer and Kamara was sold to Udinese of Italy for a profit of about £12 million ($14.4 million). That looked like a great trade — but even better was that Udinese, which is owned by the same Italian family that owns Watford, immediately loaned the player back. No rules were broken and Watford Chairman Scott Duxbury was upfront about the motives, telling the club’s website that the deal aimed to balance … [Read more...] about It’s not just Manchester City. It is a challenging number, the reduction to 4.5, but it is feasible. It’s difficult, but feasible

February 7, 2023 by www.moneycontrol.com

Finance Secretary TV Somanathan TV Somanathan is one of the key persons behind drafting the budget. In an interaction with Shweta Punj of Moneycontrol, the finance secretary shared the thoughts  that went into drawing up the document, and nuancing between the known unknowns and unknown unknowns. Edited excerpts: Q: The economy has faced several global headwinds yet managed to stay steady. What were your priorities as you were drafting this budget? What were the three key things that you wanted to ensure? There were three key priorities. One, to act as a driver of growth at a time when global growth is slowing down, but when India is poised to recover its growth rate to its potential. That was one of the objectives, which you see reflected in a big increase in capital investment and in several other parts of the budget, which are essentially to propel growth. The second major concern was that in doing that, we wanted to be sure that we were fiscally prudent. In our … [Read more...] about It is a challenging number, the reduction to 4.5, but it is feasible. It’s difficult, but feasible

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin More projects than ever before across the entertainment industry landscape utilized cryptocurrency to develop unique infrastructures to fund productions and create new revenue streams with varying results. With some companies making a profit through these methods the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released first-of-its-kind reporting requirements for those who have dealt in crypto over the last tax year. For this reporting period the terminology for reporting cryptocurrency on income tax forms has also been revamped, with it previously being known as “virtual currencies” it is now referred to as “digital assets”. FC Barcelona Have Three Transfer Targets For Summer 2023 – Reports

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin FC Barcelona have three transfer targets to sign this summer, according to reports. The Blaugrana currently have a financial headache to deal with after La Liga president Javier Tebas revealed last week that they must shave at least €200mn ($214.5mn) from their wage bill ahead of the 2023/2024 season. This will probably force the Catalans to make a big player sale , with Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, and even Ansu Fati tipped for the chopping block . Even if Barca are likely crowned La Liga champions for the first time since 2019 in early June, however, considering their eight point lead over Real Madrid, head coach Xavi Hernandez will still want to make reinforcements. Mundo Deportivo reports on Wednesday that there are three in mind. The first is Vitor Roque , the 17-year-old whose transfer SPORT claimed Barca are already negotiating with Athletico Paranaense . Roque is lighting up the South … [Read more...] about FC Barcelona Have Three Transfer Targets For Summer 2023 – Reports

Starting A Job After A Lengthy Absence? Here’s What You Need To Know

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Landing a new job or returning to work after a lengthy absence can trigger many questions and even bring on feelings of apprehension. While employers have made great strides in granting candidate requests to address the ever-evolving employment landscape, employees still wonder: What can I expect? Will my employer create an environment that allows me to have balance yet flourish? Can I ask for what I need to be successful? Findings from research organizations suggest that prospective employees have more latitude today than in recent years – particularly during the Great Resignation when millions of workers left their jobs to seek higher pay and better work environments. A new Pew Research Center survey finds that the majority of American workers who quit a job in 2021 cited low pay (63%), a lack of opportunities for advancement (63%) and feeling disrespected (57%) as their top reasons. The survey also reports that those … [Read more...] about Starting A Job After A Lengthy Absence? Here’s What You Need To Know

A Lucky Accident: How Spanish Puerto De Indias Made The First Strawberry Gin

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The world’s first strawberry gin was launched by Puerto de Indias in Seville, Spain, in 2013. This is the story of how an over-ripe batch of strawberries, a historic distillery and what some might call a fortuitous accident inspired a new liquor category. The story behind strawberry gin begins in 2008 when two Sevillian brothers with a background in the construction industry set about trying to sell an old distillery. This proved tricky, as the distillery was considered a notable monument, due to its history dating back to the 19th century, and the presence of an underground water spring from Roman times. Unable to sell the distillery, the brothers instead decided to make the most of it. Gin is the most-sold liquor category in Spain "They started exploring the potential of the business, making different kinds of liquor, experimenting with different fruits," explains Juan Miguel Pérez Ilzarbe, International … [Read more...] about A Lucky Accident: How Spanish Puerto De Indias Made The First Strawberry Gin

February 7, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Pressure is mounting from Republicans and some Democrats in Congress to pass a national ban on TikTok, the social video app owned by Chinese company ByteDance which has already been banned on federal devices and some college campuses over privacy concerns. Key Facts TikTok has faced calls for bans from critics who fear China may use the platform to access the data of American users. Criticisms of the social platform intensified in the fall after reports revealed ByteDance repeatedly accessed U.S. user data and planned to use TikTok to track the location of specific American citizens ( including Forbes journalists ). ByteDance previously denied it had used TikTok to “target” journalists or public figures, but after an internal investigation revealed employees tracked journalists covering the company, it fired its chief internal auditor who led the team orchestrating the surveillance. … [Read more...] about Will TikTok Be Banned From The U.S.?
