Tesla's Model3 on display at the Seoul Motor Show in March 2019. [YONHAP] Tesla, which had surging sales in Korea, is under investigation by the antitrust agency for false advertising. According to industry sources, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has been looking into whether the U.S.-based electric vehicle (EV) company has exaggerated its autopilot technology. Tesla has advertised that its autopilot system not only controls the direction of the vehicle, but also controls the speed at which it travels. However, according to auto industry experts, Tesla’s autopilot system is closer to driver-assistance technology than the kind of full autonomous driving that does not require the help of a driver. The review by Korea's antitrust agency comes on the heels of a German court ruling on the same issue last week. A Munich court ruled in favor of the non-profit organization The Center for Protection Against Unfair Competition, which sued Tesla for misleading consumers about its … [Read more...] about FTC looks into Tesla’s claims on autopilot technology

Value trade crumbles on Wall Street, putting quant funds at risk
- A + A (Aug 18): If Wall Street is right, the big revival in value investing in the post-lockdown era is in danger of falling apart all thanks to the resurgent bond market. Strategists from JPMorgan Chase & Co to Wells Fargo & Co warn that the best days may now be over for cheap-looking stocks as investors dump the likes of oil producers and banks on the conviction that inflation has peaked. With traders wagering that an economic slowdown will cool historic price pressures, a long-short value trade has dropped 13% since the mid-June high point in bond yields. At the same time, companies touted for their above-average potential to expand profits, known as growth stocks, outperformed their value counterparts by the most in 22 years in July, MSCI indexes show, after Big Tech names from Apple Inc to Amazon.com Inc rebounded. And for the first time in two years, a majority of investors polled by Bank of America Corp in early August said value will trail … [Read more...] about Value trade crumbles on Wall Street, putting quant funds at risk

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly NEW YORK – Speculative options trading is on the rise again among individual investors alongside a rally in so-called meme stocks, reviving a trend that swept Wall Street last year but faded as markets turned volatile in 2022. The rise in options trading comes amid wild rallies in the shares of companies popular with retail investors, led by Bed, Bath & Beyond, whose stock is up about 360 percent this month. Review: Beast Is a Lean, Tight Survival Thriller That Doesn’t Reinvent Any Wheels
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A good constant-pressure, mile-a-minute-danger thriller is always welcome, and it’s an approach to plotting that works well in a variety of genres from the dramatic tension of Uncut Gems to the sci-fi-horror stylings of Underwater . Beast is another film in that tradition, a tight 90-minute thriller about a family in jeopardy against a natural force that’s out for blood. It’s a film that doesn’t reinvent the wheel (and at times is a little too simple), but it’s a decent survival thriller upheld by a talented set of performers, easily worth the time of any audience who wants a tight thrill ride in a lean theatrical package. Idris Elba plays Dr. Nate Daniels, a man who takes his daughters Meredith (Iyana Halley) and Norah (Leah Jeffries) on a trip into the heart of Africa to bond and reconnect following the tragic death of his ex-wife/their mother. He meets up with friend Martin Battles (Sharlto Copley), a ranger who … [Read more...] about Review: Beast Is a Lean, Tight Survival Thriller That Doesn’t Reinvent Any Wheels
