Is a college degree really worth it?IT is conventional wisdom among Filipino families that their children should get a college degree to a land a good and stable job. I know a lot of people who worked two jobs or endured financial hardships just to put their kids through college. Some families have even gone to the extent of sacrificing the education of their other children just to make sure one “talented” child finished college, hoping he or she would be their way out of poverty. It’s a ritual that’s getting harder every year. Tuition and miscellaneous fees in private high schools, colleges and universities across the country continue to rise. I can only imagine how high tuition fees would be 10 or 20 years from now. But is a college degree really worth it? The Hanoitimes - When comparing levels of innovation to the level of economic development, Vietnam, along with India, Kenya and Moldova, stands out for outperforming on innovation relative to GDP for the ninth consecutive year. Vietnam is ranked 42nd with score of 38.84 out of 100 points in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019 report, up three places against the previous year and getting closer to the world’s top 40 innovation economies. MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law a measure establishing a career guidance and counseling program for all secondary schools. Signed by Duterte on Feb. 14, Republic Act 11206 or the Secondary School Career Guidance and Counseling Act aims to institutionalize a career guidance and counseling program for students in all private and public secondary schools “in order to provide them proper direction in pursuing subsequent tertiary education.” The law also aims to equip students with the capability to make “educated career decisions and expose them to relevant labor markets,” and ensure that graduates of tertiary education meet the requirements of the government, industry, and the economy. The law creates the National Secondary Schools Career Guidance and Counseling Program (CGCP) to be administered by the Department of Education (DepEd).
