Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Under Roe v. Wade, Millennials (those born between 1980-1995) have lived their entire lives with the legal right to abortion. Now, without that Constitutional protection, many young women living in the United States fear for their lives. This has led to heightened emotions not only for the Millennial generation, but all generations alike as protests erupt across the nation. According to findings in the most recent Millennial Impact Report , Millennials believe deeply in the power of activism to create social and political change. That said, it is likely that Millennials in support of Roe are seeking ways to thoughtfully respond to the new challenges regarding reproductive freedom. Moving forward, there is much work to be done across generations. Perhaps the overturning of Roe v. Wade could present an opportunity for Millennial activism and a chance to strengthen reproductive rights for all Americans. With conservation … [Read more...] about With Roe Overturned, Millennials Must Take Action To Ensure Long-term Reproductive Justice

‘No Thanks’ To Hands-Free Driving, Consumers Say
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin More is not necessarily better when it comes to new and emerging technologies designed to help drivers. Many consumers have a strong interest in partially automated driving systems, but prefer those that require them to keep their hands on the wheel, stay engaged and have attention safeguards. Those are the highlights of a new survey conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety , a nonprofit financed by the insurance industry. “Automakers often assume that drivers want as much technology as they can get in their vehicles,” Alexandra Mueller, a research scientist at the Insurance Institute and the survey’s primary designer, said in a statement. “But few studies have examined actual consumer opinions about partial driving automation.” For the nationwide survey, which was released on Thursday, more than 1,000 drivers were asked about three common systems: lane centering, automated lane changing and … [Read more...] about ‘No Thanks’ To Hands-Free Driving, Consumers Say
A Rolling Fund May Be Just What Women And BIPOC Venture Capitalists Need To Raise Funding
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Sourcing funding for diverse emerging managers of venture funds is a struggle. As a result, you have to think outside the box, as Lisa Morales-Hellebo and Brian Laung Aoaeh, general partners and cofounders at REFASHIOND Ventures, have. Their fund invests in early-stage innovations that refashion global supply chains . The pair are using AngelList's Rolling Funds , which is designed to solve several friction points that diverse emerging managers face when raising funds. Cover Story: RHB’s Game Plan in ‘fast-changing’ new normal
This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on June 20, 2022 - June 26, 2022. - A + A ALL eyes are on RHB Banking Group’s newly minted group managing director (MD) and group CEO Mohd Rashid Mohamad as he steers the fourth-largest banking group by assets forward in a tough operating landscape. “It’s very challenging, especially now in a fast-changing market environment, and as we face potential risks such as geopolitical and inflationary,” acknowledges Rashid in his first exclusive interview as group MD/CEO. Competition has intensified, given new entrants into the market, which are not just new banks but also technology companies that compete for the same pie. Rashid adds that this has partly affected the profitability of the industry, along with many other factors. He notes that banks globally no longer see “high ROEs” as before. For RHB Bank Bhd, its return on equity (ROE) in the past 10 financial years hit a high of 13.4% in FY2012 before … [Read more...] about Cover Story: RHB’s Game Plan in ‘fast-changing’ new normal
7 Renewable Energy Strategies We Can Learn From Iceland
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “My favorite part of Iceland's renewable energy story is that it started small. It started with innovation, entrepreneurship,” Halla Hrund Logadottir , the Director-General of Iceland’s National Energy Authority (INEA), said in an extensive interview for my Electric Ladies Podcast during my whirlwind tour of their clean energy technologies recently. “In terms of how has this developed, originally organically and then supported by the government and by policies and funding, which is essential for any development.” Like any entrepreneurial venture, it started with one inspired person who bucked convention to find another way. “In the case of geothermal, there was a farmer who found a way in the early 1900s to connect his farm to a neighboring hot spring. And then, his municipality, (and) a few other farmers did the same. And then from there, it took off to politics….and became a part of government strategy to … [Read more...] about 7 Renewable Energy Strategies We Can Learn From Iceland
Big Banks Rushing for Piece of $43 Trillion China Market Amid Trade War
Amid the bitter US.-China trade war, a largely unnoticed development is the attempt by big U.S banks to compete in China's rapidly-growing financial sector. China recently announced specific dates when it will begin allowing full foreign ownership of mainland-based financial services companies. The China Securities Regulatory Commission said foreign ownership controls on futures firms, fund management firms and securities firms will be scrapped next year on January 1, April 1 and December 1, respectively. “China is very determined to reform its financial markets and knows that without the major American players, it is very hard to talk about having a truly internationalized market,” observes Michael Pettis, a professor of finance at the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, per a detailed report in Bloomberg . “It also makes sense for China to accommodate a very important source of lobbying support, especially as there’s so little in the U.S. right now," he added. … [Read more...] about Big Banks Rushing for Piece of $43 Trillion China Market Amid Trade War
Decoding Ghislaine Maxwell: By Way Of Apology At Sentencing, She Tries To Recast Herself As An Epstein “Victim”
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s an open question whether Ghislaine Maxwell’s sentence of 20 years and her fine of $750,000 handed down by Judge Alison Nathan on June 28 will bring the longed-for end of the decades-long nightmare to Jeffrey Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s many victims, both those who figured in Ms. Maxwell’s indictment and trial and the many dozens who did not. On the positive side for those victims, Maxwell’s sentencing does at least signal a resolution of this set of proceedings and provides an interregnum for assessing events thus far, as the convicted felon now begins the formalities of serving what remains of her sentence in her assigned federal facility in Danbury, Connecticut. But with Ms. Maxwell’s and her attorneys’ stated intent to appeal, it seems likely that, in a larger way, Ghislaine Maxwell’s own narrative of her years with Epstein and her quotient of guilt in the many civil and criminal matters that enveloped her … [Read more...] about Decoding Ghislaine Maxwell: By Way Of Apology At Sentencing, She Tries To Recast Herself As An Epstein “Victim”
How Autistic Individuals Can Offer Special Skills To Your Business
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Approximately two-thirds of autistic individuals are looking for a job . Autistic people tend to have lower employment rates, and the pandemic has only exacerbated the issue. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is almost twice the national average . "Today, more than 80% of autistic people are unemployed or are in a low-skill level role that doesn't fully leverage their talent," says David Friedman, Founder/CEO of AutonomyWorks. "High unemployment rates significantly impact these individuals' lives and usually result in inadequate financial resources and limited housing or educational options. These conditions force many autistic adults to rely on government programs or families for basic necessities. Beyond the economic costs, they damage their self-image and a sense of purpose." While not widely known, the autism community is an untapped resource of diverse talent. The real challenge is connecting the … [Read more...] about How Autistic Individuals Can Offer Special Skills To Your Business

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Monkeypox vaccines will be offered to anyone in the U.S. who thinks they have been been exposed to the virus and groups most at risk of catching it, including men who have sex with men, measures officials hope will contain the growing outbreak as they work to bolster limited supplies.
